After the Santa Cruz course was too busy, we drove a little extra to visit Pinto Lake, and we were…read morenot disappointed! This is an eighteen-basket course that wraps around a large area. Many of the holes have A/B/C baskets depending on your desired challenge level. The Course: Overall, the courses are pretty long. Most of the shorter holes come in at 300ft (A), but there is a long one with 500ftA/1000ftB/1200ftC. Early and late baskets are in the nice shaded woods. The middle baskets (8-12, including the 1200ft hole) are in a big open field, so you will want sun protection. The course wraps around near the lake so that you can have a great view of the water and kayakers, but not so close that there's any risk of tossing your disk into the lake. The course is well-marked with signs pointing toward the next area. Mostly well groomed, some of the field needed mowing. Be careful of stickers/burrs in tall grass. Amenities: There were bathrooms, but they were closed when we visited, likely covid-related closure. Parking lot for Pinto Lake was decently sized and no fees for parking.

The final part of the course is pretty easy and not too technical but still fun. One thing to watch out for is the poison oak, a week later and I'm just getting over it. There are a couple of holes that you'll have to search for because it's not too clear where they are at but if you have a disk golf app on your smart phone it will lead you to the next hole. Most of the course is around 300 plus feet but there are some holes that are over 500 feet or longer. All open and nothing but a strong arm. The other players on the course are friendly and will direct you in the directions you'll need to go. They'll even help find the disk if thrown into the rough. What is nice about this course is it isn't as busy as the other courses around the area.

Fun course! The 12 holes is perfect length. Bits of shade which make it not too bad in the summer…read more The baskets are not as far as Kelly and la raza, and they are almost all straight shots with not too many hazards. Also relatively easy to spot your disc if you get off the path. Do not use Apple Maps for the directions--it's takes you too far down the road.

Relatively easy to navigate, short-length, 12-hole course. Definitely a confidence booster if you…read morestruggle on longer length courses. Course has more holes that reward a RHBH player than LHBH. I played when almost every hole was on its B setting, which is the longer distance. Pros 2-4 pins per hole. Cement tee boxes. 2 practice baskets, but they are not located in an ideal location. DGA Mach V baskets throughout. Decent signage. Many holes have phone holders so you could film yourself teeing off (never seen this before.). Not too crowded, even during a peak time on a holiday. Modest elevation changes. Most of the course is wooded and require shots that navigate through and around tree clusters. Well maintained and still has that newish feeling. Several tee boxes were implemented on a slope and they built them up proper; slightly elevated, with wooden borders. Many holes have comfy wooden seating areas (tons of bowl holes;) Cons Course map needed a couple times to find the next hole. Poison oak is rampant. $6 parking fee must be paid at the lower Chestnut lot closer to the entrance. Bring bug spray, a few holes the mosquitos/gnats were annoying.

I can't say enough good things about the experience I had with School of Disc Golf in Santa Cruz…read more I've been playing disc golf for awhile (many years) and came to accept that I was about as good as I was going to get. After introducing my girlfriend and her two daughters to disc golf, all four of us really enjoyed playing together on a regular basis. Knowing that I had plateaued in the game, my girlfriend gave me a gift certificate to School of Disc Golf. GAME CHANGER Rather than go just by myself, I asked Jack (the owner/teacher) whether it would be alright if all four of us came--no prolem. Jack then proceeded to communicate with each of us separately to see what we would like to get out our lesson with him. After reading all of our responses he designed a curriculum specifically tailored to teach us what we all needed to know. All four of us came away with something to concentrate on and all four of us improved our game. Not only did we improve, but Jack gave each of us things we should concentrate on to continue improving our game on a go-forward basis. Since this lesson, my drives have gotten better by 20-30 feet--that's the difference between sinking a putt or not! AND he taught me a different way of putting, which improved my score immediately as well. Jack's a kind, patient teacher and, at the end of our lesson, played a couple of holes with us to see how the lessons could be put into action. I will definitely be taking lessons from Jack again.
