So I took me and my two young kids for dinner Sunday evening, we got there about 10 to 5. The host has told us it was a 30 minute wait but realistically it would probably only be like five or 10 minutes so we decided to wait, mind you I'm not the type of person that waits that long for this type of food, Applebees really isn't that great. After waiting about 20-25 minutes the hostess comes up and tells us she hast to put us on hold! For at least another 35 to 40 minutes! First of all what kind of verbage is that? " put us on hold!" After scanning the room I can see that there are at least 10 tables open and the rest of the room already has their food. At the very least they could've sat us and given us our drinks and then try to expedite things. I asked the hostess why we had to wait so long when we've been waiting 20 minutes already and she said the kitchen is backed up with online orders and her manager told her to tell the people waiting that they were going to be on hold. It was just us and two other small groups of people waiting for tables. Everyone that was told they were going to be on hold left If anyone should be on hold it's the online orders not the actual people that make the trip to your restaurant. I hate applebees in general but this one was great..! Came here on a hot sunday afternoon to eat lunch we were greeted by their cute hostesses which opened the door for us as we walked in... We were sat immediately even though the place was packed.. Initially, we wanted to get something to eat here but we started with their basket of onion rings & it was something serious; just a hugeeee basket of BIG rings & perfectly fried.. As we were eating those & sipping our drink we surprisingly got really full...! the waitress came around to take our order & we had to kindly decline her offer to take our order. (odd because im a huge eater) She was surprised, but ok with it... we apologized but she didn't mind.. she refilled our drink several times as well.. A group of 4 of us went in a few months back. Ate in the bar area. Very busy. Food was okay, but the drinks were a joke. We couldn't even taste the alcohol. Complained to the waitress who sent a manager to the table. He wasn't very friendly while explaining that all their liquor are "measured pours", and reluctantly removed the drinks from our bill. Can I give this place zero star?! Anyways my experience there for the first time with my boyfriend was just terrible!! I forgot what I ordered but I ordered a steak with cheese and shrimps... When the food arrived, there were no cheese and shrimps on top. The waitress had to go back and microwaved some cheese and shrimps on top. The presentation does not look good at all. I have only eaten take-out from this Applebee's once in the 10 years I've been in the area. It was so bad we never went back. Went yesterday with a friend during Happy Hour for first and last time. Not many options in Merced for Happy Hour or just casual drinks with friends, as a lot of other folks have mentioned. Food wasn't as bad as I've had at other Applebee's. I had a half American BLT with a salad. It was average. My friend had a burger and fries and although I don't eat beef it looked good. We also had the Won Ton tacos and while they were okay, they were way overpriced at almost $8. Everything except our Happy Hour drinks was overpriced for the quality. One issue was that my margarita was ready and sitting on the bar a good ten minutes before my friend's was even made. I was sitting there thinking "Come to Momma, little strawberry margarita!" Very sad. We had the same margarita, just with different flavoring added in for 50 cents extra. The major issue was a very loud, drunk fat guy who would not pipe down. My friend complained to our server and asked for the manager, as did a couple two tables over. The manager never came to either table. I asked our server why they allowed the guy to stay - I understand loud, obnoxious drunks at 9 p.m. but at 3 in the afternoon? There were a lot of people with kids in there and it's a small restaurant so I'm sure the kids heard his non-stop barrage of f-bombs and racial and homophobic slurs. So glad I didn't have my kids with me. If I did I would have just left. Anyway, the server said the guy comes in almost every day and spends a ton of money so that's why they let him stay. Trust me, I have been to plenty of restaurants and bars in my lifetime and anywhere else this guy would be 86'd. I suggest the manager of this location needs to watch "Hey, Bartender!" and get a clue as to how to run a bar and restaurant. Will never go back. read more

Let me start out by saying I've been to this Applebee's quite often during the day and the service is pretty good but last night was the second night I've been to late night and the service was again terrible! I got two watered down Long Island iced teas which I had to wait 30 minutes for each while the party next to us were getting theirs one right after another, we waited 30 minutes for the waiter to come and tell us they ran out of the appetizers we wanted and had to pick something else and then another 40 minutes until we were served, didn't tell us the appetizers my brother and husband got weren't half off, the first waiter's shift ended then the second one's just begun and he was already taking a break after 5 mins so here comes a third waiter! Top it off it was my birthday and they didn't even bring me my free dessert or sing me happy birthday like my family had asked! Oh and they over charged us on our bill! We just had dinner tonight and we ordered the 2 for $25. We ordered mac and cheese with honey chicken tenders and baby back ribs. The ribs came out burnt and meatless and dry. The fries were soggy and tasted old. My plate of Mac and cheese was plain. The only good thing tonight was the mozzarella sticks. Luis was our waiter and he was good so we lied to him that things were okay when he asked us. Another issue was that I recently purchased a gift card of $50 and got a $10 gift and I didn't know that there was expiration date so we couldn't redeem it. Hey, what can I say? It's a chain restaurant, but it's one of the better ones. It was pretty busy, but they served us pretty fast. If it's happy hours the drinks are pretty cheap (for a chain that usually sells way overpriced under alcoholed drinks) . I have always loved this place for their food, staff and atmosphere. It's always packed and I've never really had bad service. This review is about tonights visit. My friend and I got there late around 11 pm and were immediately seated and even though it was so late the place was loud. You could barely hear the music over the chatter but it still wasn't unpleasant. Our server was the best, her name is Kisa. She kept our drinks full and made sure we didn't need anything.
