You can feel the presence of God before you step inside. Wonderful church and the people seem sincere. The pastor and his wife are both God-fearing leaders who do truly love God, the Church, and all the people. As a pastor, he is not afraid to say what God lays on his heart. That is a true man of God and I am proud to get to call Bro Grantham, my Pastor. At this church, the pastor, his wife, the entire church make you feel welcome and part of a family, where you belong. The best part, the truth and only the truth, is taught. read more

I used to love when my dad would bring my siblings and I to worship at this church. We may not be…read moreKorean nor speak the language, but they did provide us with translators so we could follow a long with the pastor. I always felt a sense of love and togetherness when I would come every Sunday. One of the good things about the services here is that they would serve Korean meals after every service. The meals would consist of Korean spagetti and pancakes, and everything was so delicious. The church itself is small and the seating are in pews the wooden ones that hurt your back after sitting for too long, but thankfully the services aren't that long. The Korean people didn't look at us wrongly for attending, rather they were glad that outsiders were attending the church with them. Just located in Clinton/Jackson off of a busy street, just before you go down the hill.

This is, in general, an excellent Reform Jewish synagogue. Because it's the only synagogue in the…read moreJackson area, it gets Jews from many different backgrounds. Some Jews who attend are actually quite religious (or aspire to be), while others are very non-religious. Rabbi Jeffrey Kurtz-Lendner teaches a wonderful Torah class on Saturday mornings, from a perspective that is very different from what you'll encounter in an Orthodox synagogue. I've attended this class over fifteen times. Kurtz-Lendner is very open-minded and welcomes Jews of all persuasions as well as goyim (non-Jews). Some Orthodox Jewish synagogues are quite different in that respect. I'm sorry we'll be losing him. As the synagogue looks for a new rabbi, I hope the committee responsible for hiring the next rabbi will draft an extremely detailed and specific contract outlining the rabbi's duties and responsibilities. For example, suppose, hypothetically, the committee wants the rabbi to teach three different classes for adults, on Saturday morning and on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The committee should then put this in the contract so that there is no misunderstanding. The committee should not, for example, expect to hire a rabbi who will simply agree, on his own, after he is hired, to engage in that much teaching, when the contract either specified that the rabbi would be required to teach only one class, or was silent on the entire topic. Another example is counseling. If a synagogue wants its rabbi to be available for counseling for up to, say, seven hours per week, then that should be in the contract. Reform Judaism is quite different from, say, the Chabad sect of Judaism. In the Chabad denomination, rabbis may be more willing to go beyond their initial conception of their duties (prior to being hired) than Reform rabbis. Misunderstandings about duties are extremely common in religious institutions, and in general, the fault, in my view, lies in the failure of the hiring committees to come to a detailed written agreement (prior to hiring) with the religious leader they hire.
