Everyone I've worked with here has been wonderful. Yes there…read moreare waits, however when you're taken back you are immediately being taken care of. Have been here several times with chronic conditions and injuries, as well as even dangerous infections, and I'm always treated with care here. Only complaint is the same complaint I've had with every hospital, and it's that if you're admitted, I wish that they would give more of a heads up about being discharged rather than "OKAY YOU'RE BEING DISCHARGED!". Transportation isn't easy to get when you live 2+ hours away.

I am extremely disappointed with the way I have been treated during my stay at Sanford. I have…read moredealt with multiple staff members, but my experience with my most recent nurse was by far one of the worst interactions I have ever had with a healthcare professional. Her attitude toward me was rude, argumentative, condescending, and completely unnecessary. She repeatedly asked me the same questions phrased in different ways, and when I became frustrated with the questioning, she actually responded by telling me that she "went to four years of school." I could not believe a nurse was speaking to a patient that way. I responded that I have five years of college education myself because I genuinely could not understand why her education was even being brought into the conversation. Am I a patient receiving medical care, or are we comparing educational backgrounds? There was also an unnecessary argument regarding my blood pressure. My blood pressure had already been taken on my forearm during this same hospitalization, including after a low reading, yet she argued with me about using my forearm. When another reading was taken, I was only told it was "a little better" rather than simply being told what my actual blood pressure was. This is MY medical information. I should not have to argue with a nurse to be informed about something as basic as my own vital signs. To make the experience even more frustrating, I was awakened around 6:00 a.m. to have my blood pressure taken and then questioned about information that should have been addressed when I was admitted approximately 48 hours earlier. Patients in the hospital need rest. If information was missed during admission, that should not result in a patient being awakened two days later and then treated with hostility for questioning why the same things are being asked repeatedly. I understand that nurses have difficult and demanding jobs. That does not give anyone permission to belittle, argue with, or speak condescendingly to a patient. I have never experienced a nurse treating me this way before. Being hospitalized already puts a person in an incredibly vulnerable position. The last thing a patient should have to deal with is feeling antagonized by the person responsible for their care. This experience has been bad enough that, if I had a realistic choice, I would move my care elsewhere. I have already chosen Essentia for care where I have that option. Unfortunately, for reproductive endocrinology and certain specialized services in this area, Sanford is effectively the only practical option available to me. It is incredibly frustrating to feel forced to continue using a healthcare system after being treated this way simply because there is little or no meaningful local alternative for the specialty care I need. Sanford needs to seriously address how some members of its nursing staff communicate with patients. Patients should not feel trapped between accepting disrespectful treatment and losing access to specialized medical care. I expect basic professionalism, respect, and transparency regarding my own medical care. What I experienced during this hospitalization fell far below that standard.
