November 10, 2024 9:40AM…read more Treasure hunting/thrifting is one of my favorite past time and doing this in a different country is something I enjoy doing. Yes, Porta Portese has more of a flea market vibes but it is so huge that you are bound to find something neat if you're patient enough. I browsed through some vintage stands and didn't find anything to bring back... but was able to find a nice pair of new baggy jeans on the other side of the market toward the residential area. On our way back we were able to find some local artwork in post card size to bring back for friends and family. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area and into treasure hunting. Highly recommend to come check them out on the weekends if you're in Rome.

I bought a brand new 27" luggage with wheels; this luggage was selling for $160 in the heart of Rome. The seller tried to sell it to me for $60 then I countered with $35 and he said $40, which I accepted. There are a lot of retro items that I would've loved to buy, but it would've been too heavy to bring back to the U.S. We ended up buying a Beatles vinyl record, fans (4 for $1), and other small items for gifts. This place has everything and it felt like we walked for miles one way only! Don't be afraid to bargain, they'll work with you!

A great find! I love to find antique/vintage markets to look through on my travels and this is…read moredefinitely a good one. Rome is not short on antique shops or vintage shops but budget ones are rare. This is the American equivalent of an antique mall where several dealers/pickers have their section or glass cabinet full of things up for sale. While this place has things in all price ranges, the selection is big and I could easily find some bargains. I ended up finding an item I liked in one of the locked glass cabinets and I easily spotted a staff member who quickly and in a friendly manner showed it to me, and later, had an English speaking person tell me where to pay and pick it up when I was done looking. The good size clothing section is particularly priced well, I saw nice leather jackets for 25 euro and a nice leather trimmed tote for 15. They of course have the high end name brand stuff section for more. There's a large furniture section which included several mid century Italian design items that would be much much more in the states, for example a 50s Italian love seat with all the right curves and metal peg legs was only 200 euro when I could see it being thousands in the US. The neighborhood is a bit off the way if you're staying in the Vatican/Centro area but near the Termini station, tho surely worth the treck!

The dishes are almost always a wonderful blend of seasonal, fresh and flavorful ingredients. No over-processing. No overly reduced sauces. However, perhaps because I am living here rather than being a passing tourist, I have been growing tired of the stereotypical trattoria ambiance at most eateries. Therefore, I was ecstatic about discovering Primo al Pigneto. Located in a cool, edgy street in a working class neighborhood, the interior of Primo is like a slice of Soho, NYC or Palermo Viejo, Buenos Aires in Rome. The dishes consist largely of traditional Roman fare with a modern twist. The pasta all'amatriciana I ordered was excellent, as were the lamb shank and game hen that our friends ordered. The tagliata that my husband ordered was a bit less successful, as it had a tad too much fat that I would have preferred cooked at a higher temperature. (We didn't order antipasti and dessert as we weren't very hungry.) The wine list is extensive and reasonably priced. The place is not cheap, but it is all reasonably priced. Expect to spend about 40 euros per person for two courses (including wine).

These relics are real gemstones; from a time when rosary's were made with great precision and the prayer beads felt warm to the hand.
