Fair warning to those who may have the same experience as us. We are frequent patrons to Enzo's in…read morefive points and this past weekend my hubby and I wanted to try the new restaurant Bar Gran Sasso. We ordered drinks which were good. Ordered a salad and carrot appetizer which were delish. Then here is where it started to go south. We ordered a pasta dish that is supposed to have pork cheek in it. We got the dish and both my hubby and I took a bite and crunched on the pasta. We realized immediately the pasta was undercooked. So we notified the owner since Lou our waitress did not come back to our table for a while. He seemed perturbed by our request to send it back and just order something else in its place but accommodated the request. With a birds eye view of the kitchen I see him talk to the chef and point back at us. I see the chef throw the food from our dish in the trash and look back and smirk at us. No big deal, I can just tell he took it all personal but life goes on. We proceed to order another round of drinks and wait for our new dish. New dish is much better but the polenta was like soupy grits but I just ate it as the flavor was good and didn't say another word. We finished the meal with dessert and my hubby ordered a dessert drink. When our bill came we realized we were charged for both the pasta dish as well as the new dish. We informed our waitress Lou about the double charge who proceeds to tell us the dish was cooked "Al dente" and argued that the chef tasted our pasta dish when it was sent back and there was nothing wrong with it. First of all he threw it away as I saw with my own eyes. Second of all, why would we lie about that when clearly we enjoyed the rest of the meal and raved about the other dishes. So she says "let me talk to the chef and see what he wants to do as that is his call". She takes our card and the bill with her when she leaves and then about 5-7 mins later returns to our table and says hope you have a good evening and sorry about that dish. When I look down I realize she just ran the card for the full amount including both dishes. I told her that I make homemade pasta on the regular and have traveled to Italy numerous times and I am very familiar with Al Dente and no Al dente pasta should ever have a crunch. She didn't want to hear anything but just kept saying these are our standards. My husband (who has ran a restaurant, been a butcher for years and has catered countless top events in Atlanta and knows his culinary) asked to speak to the chef as he was perturbed that he used the waitress to do his dirty work. The chef talked to my husband very briefly and stated that this was his standards and if we wanted our pasta cooked longer then we should have requested it at the time of ordering and that was it. So end of the story: we were charged for both dishes even though only one was consumed and the other was thrown away. Beware if you ever have an issue with your order not being cooked properly, you will deal with their ego instead of professionalism.
