The hubs and I stopped in for brunch late Sunday morning over Presidents' Day weekend while we were in town. The estimated wait was at least 45 minutes; however, we were fortunate to quickly snag a couple of stools at the bar. Ginny (I hope I'm remembering her name correctly) and her partner serving diners at the bar were phenomenal! She was warm, friendly, helpful, and very efficient with our orders and requests. I enjoyed the complimentary biscuit beignets as a first-time customer. The Veggie Delight Omelette was delicious, as was the Grand Mimosa. Prices are a little high...but that seems par for the course lately, everywhere. We will definitely visit again when we are in the area. read more

Upon walking in, this seemed like a fancy brunch spot and had a lot of choices for breakfast/lunch. I got the biscuits and gravy, which was pretty good, and a side of cheesy grits. I wasn't a huge fan of the grits because it lacked in flavor and the texture seemed off. I felt the prices didn't accurately represent the quality of the food, but definitely not a bad brunch place! ABE is one of the best brunch places in town. I love coming here, the staff is awesome, the food is phenomenal. My favorite omelette is the bacquezo, it comes stuffed with cream cheese! I love the chicken and waffles, especially the chipotle honey drizzle. However, my favorite thing to get here is the biscuit beignets! It's fried biscuit dough with confectioners sugar and an orange marmalade, absolutely phenomenal. They're pretty busy on the weekend so the awesome hosts sat me at the bar. I used to go to Another Broken Egg down in Florida and I was pleased to see that a location opened up on campus. It's always our go to for a filling Sunday brunch. I almost always get the Huevos Rancheros with Chorizo. An egg, beans, salsa, Chrizo sausage all piled onto a crispy tortilla -mmmm! The food has never disappointed me. My family came here on a Sunday, so it was very busy. We waited 45 minutes to be seated. Initially, we were put in the back room which was not very pleasant and dimly lit. Once we were moved by request, the food took a very long time to come, even our coffee and water. The food was nothing spectacular, less than diner quality. Cold, obviously made in huge batches potatoes and cold eggs with unmelted cheese. We ordered waffles that was supposed to have white chocolate syrup and it came without it. I also opened a napkin for utensils only to find them used and very dirty. The whole experience took two hours, we were the last ones out and our check was very pricey for food that was not tasty or filling. We all left pretty disappointed. read more

This restaurant has just opened, but even so it was a great experience. The waitress was knowledgeable about all of the dishes, and gave good information about everything. I ordered a sweet potato pancake, eggs and bacon. The eggs were very good. The pancake was huge, and delicious although not exactly my cup of tea. I would not get it again, but it's not any fault of the cooks or anything. Again, the staff had great training, the food was prompt and delicious. Came here for breakfast with 3 other people while I was in town for work. Big menu with lots of options. We had a great server who gave us recommendations and answered all of our questions. I ordered the chicken & waffles with the honey sauce on the side. When it came out, she realized she forgot to have them put it on the side. Finally, a real place to eat in Lafayette. Unhealthy without being deep fried or smothered in gravy is a rare find in this town. This place delivers. Monster cinnamon roll was delicious. The black bean eggs benadict were great. The chipolte hollandaise was full of chipolte flavor. My only complaint about it would be the eggs were slightly over poached, but that didn't ruin it for me. The coffee was also hot, fresh and delicious. We sat at the bar because there was no wait, the bartender was friendly, attentive, and funny. Overall, good atmosphere. Today marked my second experience with ABE, but the first when I've gotten food. The first time I came here, it was the day they opened. My friends and I were meeting for breakfast at seven on Saturday morning. We had seen the restaurant on Northwestern and, since we were looking for a good breakfast spot, we decided to see when it opened. On the restaurant's website and Facebook page, it said it was open. So we arrived shortly after seven. The gentleman who came to the door said, "I'm sorry. We don't open until Monday." "Oh," we said. "Online and on Facebook we read that you're open." "Well, today is just a soft open for VIPs." Here's what: I get the soft open thing. It's important. But when three paying customers show up *because you advertised your restaurant as being open for business,* then that's on you. The VIPs were nowhere in sight, and I am of the opinion that, since it was their fault that we showed up expecting to be able to eat there, then they should have welcomed us inside and served us. At least get us some coffee. As it was, we took our business elsewhere. So I wasn't going to give the restaurant another chance, but they sent out mailers with a free traditional breakfast - two eggs, seasoned potatoes, and an English muffin. I decided that if they were willing to do that, they must think that even their most basic food is a good advertisement for their restaurant. I didn't have much time this morning before I needed to be at an appointment, but I had plenty of time for carry out, so I called ahead to order the traditional breakfast, a cup of fruit, and a small orange juice. They told me it would be ready in 10-15 minutes. "Perfect," I thought. "That's the length of my commute to campus." So I arrived 13 minutes after I ended the call. There were three customers in the restaurant, so they weren't swamped by any stretch of the imagination. Still, I was asked to take a seat and wait at the counter. It took an additional 10 minutes to get my food and check. The reason I called ahead was so that I wouldn't have to wait 10 minutes in the restaurant. So, the service was unnecessarily slow for carryout, especially given the simplicity of my order. Now to the food: The fruit cup was generous - a 12 oz to-go cup packed to the brim with flavorful fruit. It was $2.99, so I'm glad it wasn't disappointing. The OJ was not spectacular and, for a small, it was also $2.99 which seems overpriced. As for the traditional breakfast, my over-easy eggs were perfect. The seasoned potatoes were nothing awesome. Actually, they kind of just tasted like standard curly fries from fast food joints, but they weren't that greasy, which was a plus. The English muffin was not only not toasted, it was cold. Cold enough that it seems like they just took it out of the refrigerator and put it in my take-out box. So that was super disappointing. I know that restaurants aren't always on their A-game for take-out, so I'll give it one more chance for an in-restaurant experience but, I've got to say, the spark of my hope has gone cold - as cold as a refrigerated English muffin. read more

As of September 2015, this place is packed with people. It takes a while to get seated depending on the time of the day. And after that, it's going to be another while before you see a drink or menu. The place is understaffed and overly crowded. It would have be worth it if the food was great, but it wasn't. I had the supreme omelette and steal cut oats. I hate the fact that I was handed a bottle of honey and a bottle of cinnamon with the oatmeal. The worst part is that it is undercooked. The omelette was underwhelming also. I expected the portion to be more substantial since they are charging $10 for it. But no, it was pretty small and had too much oil. The omelette came with tater tots on the side. I wish they would at least have a heather option such as mesh potatoes, or baked potatoes. All an all, I do not recommend this place for a healthy brunch. This is the sort of place, where you would get poorly cooked dinner food with a big splash of melted cheese on top. It's not the upscale brunch place that it was branded to be. BTW, parking is going to be a problem if you don't have Purdue parking pass and you are there on a weekday morning. read more

On multiple occasions items have been missing from my takeout bag. Staff has always been accommodating and "made it right" but it still shouldn't happen. As fresh alumni, 3 of us came here on a Sunday during brunch after visiting for a home football game. As expected, the wait was quite long (ended up being ~40 mins). However, the lobby waiting area is spacious and had (clutch) coffee. They also put you on a text message list so we took advantage of the location and walked around campus. After being seated, we were warmly welcomed by our server (she was seriously awesome, if you're reading this "you're a 10"). Received our food surprisingly fast after putting in orders. It hit the spot on so many levels. Tasty, large portions, and fairly priced. Great addition to Purdue. We look forward to coming back, especially once they have their liquor license. I had a decent experience here. It had recently just opened so everything looked nice, new, and clean. The other customers seemed to be very hungry college kids so it was nice to see what their orders looked like when they came out. I ordered the biscuit beignets for a starter. Sadly, I was not impressed. They were tough and hard to even pull apart. It came with a honey marmalade to dunk them in....it did not compliment them at all. I also had the smoked salmon benny for my main course. It was pretty good! A lot of cream cheese but I just scraped some of it off and it ended up being alright and actually inspired me to make my own version at home. Of course I liked my version better ha ha! This is my second time going with my boyfriend and it was just another okay experience. This time we both got chicken and waffles and our own personal sides to enjoy. I had some fried potatoes which weren't really seasoned that well but we're mediocre. My boyfriend had eggs and he really enjoyed them. For both of us, the chicken and waffles were good but not as hot as we would have liked. Overall, for a hour wait, which is pretty common on a Sunday, I just expected a little more. Had the opportunity to have brunch here so we checked it out, the location is a little difficult to get to being on campus within a larger building. The place is neat though, and was fairly lively. The service throughout was very attentive and friendly. They were busy and so we ended up sitting at the bar which was a good choice since we had a majority of the bar to ourselves. We got a free order of beignets that were really tasty. They had a lot of breakfast cocktails that sounded good but maybe for another time. Since the first day it was open it had always been very full and busy at noon probably because that it has a very competitive location - right beside the Armstrong building at Purdue university. The food here is awesome. I was here with my boyfriend for lunch and we ordered lobster, steak, and cafe burger. They were all awesome in taste and appearance. This place is worth trying if you haven't been here but I don't think they do reservations so you will have to be there early before busy hours to get a seat fast. read more

If you're looking for a great breakfast and I mean great breakfast don't waste your money here. Go a few miles north to the small town of Battle Ground and eat at The Eye Opener. The prices are at least half the prices at ABE and the food isn't greasy. A group of us came to ABE for a team lunch this week but I can only speak for my own meal. The mild roast coffee was really good but the Supreme Omelet was soooooo greasy I didn't eat more than a half of it. If I have to eat here again I would try a waffle or something. Please someone tell me why I can't seem to like this place. I have been so many times with all sorts of friends and I just can't stand it. Besides the beignets, which are the only decent thing I've tried, the dishes never seem to be quite right. The coffee is okay, with the exception of the time my coffee tasted like bleach. I got huevos rancheros and the "fried" tortilla was more similar to an over fried wafer with a thick layer of bean pepper water at the bottom. It was bizarre. The eggs don't seem to be cooked right in any of the skillets I've had. The salsa is flavorless. I'm utterly confused by this place but it seems like everyone else loves it! read more
