Even though I mainly froze, I imagine it must be super gorgeous and packed during the summer. Would love to come back and see it all then.

The Hadag ferries take you from place to place along the Hamburg area of the Elbe river, from Landungsbrücken to Ottensen and a little further than that. These ferries are a wonderful way to see some of the harbor for on-a-budget tourists, as they essentially are bus-ships - they cost nothing more than a standard bus ride and make stops up and down the river at stations which are identical to bus stations. Great for sightseeing, but also a wonderfully efficient way to get from place to place along the elbe.

I chanced upon the venerable Stettin, a lovely icebreaker dating from 1933 this weekend. Well, in…read moretruth, I'd seen her before on a many a visit to the beach, but had passed by the delights of Oevelgoenne museum. Anyway, if you've got 2EUR handy, and you get there before 1800, she is well worth a look! The tour isn't guided, so you are free to clamber around most of the ship, including into the engine room! It houses a beautiful 5-cylinder steam engine, which develops around 2200hp at the cylinders. The pistons and con-rods are of an epic size, hence the rather amusing tooling which is also neatly stacked nearby for maintenance. You can actually fit your head into a few of the spanners. Up on deck, she looks fairly unremarkable, until you get onto the bridge. Interestingly, it contains rather more modern equipment than downstairs, which betrays the fact she saw active service from 1933 all the way up to 2008, a period in which she also saw action during the capture of Copenhagen. All in all, well worth the admission, and one of the highlights of my weekend!

It's one of the companies that offers a round trip around Hamburg harbour. You can do a 1 hour or…read morelonger tour and it's available in German and English. The ticket guy thought we were tourists so offered us a discount on the German tour that was leaving in a few mins :-) I said nothing and took the discount ha ha ha The guide was also the boat captain and was very funny and informative. Took us for a good ride around the harbour and explained everything. Not a bad choice for a boat tour. They have smaller boats for about 30 odd people and they leave from pier 1 or 2 I believe. I would highly recommend you do a boat tour as it's a great way to see the city from the water.

I had come from a tour of the Airbus factory, also in Hamburg. My paddleboat cruise was schedule…read moreto leave at 5:30. As I was taking the ferry from the other side of the harbor, it was heading toward Landungsbruecke 1and I saw the paddleboat pass us going in the other direction about 5:20 PM. The boat must have filled to capacity and left early. I was very disappointed; however, I did receive a full refund which was of only minor consolation.

To whom that may concern, I bought a ticket today for the hop on hop off bus. This was probably the…read moreworst experience I ever had with a hop on hop off bus experience. I wasn't even able to use the voucher because I was unable to find any of the bus stops. It was absolutely ridiculous. I probably walked to at least four places that the map showed was a bus stop only to have the bus pass by me and not stop at six different stops that I walked to. The two cruise port busy stops were no where to be found, no sign no booth no employee.. and the other four stops I walked to also no clear indicator of where the bus is supposed to stop. I did see a bus stop at one point and he barely waited ten seconds before he took off. It was so disappointing. So I did not even get to take the tour. It was a big waste of money. There were no signs. The only bus that did stop to pick me up was an orange bus and he told me I had to go across the street 400 meters for the red bus. Well I forgot my measuring stick and there was no sign for the red bus anywhere. I waited on the other side of the street but in the rain it made no sense to stand there and there was no sign. I tried my best to figure out where the bus stops were while looking at the poor quality map on your website.. I wasn't able to pull up a live view of where the buses were. I wasn't able to get your website working to talk to someone. It was completely disorganized and a terrible experience for something I didn't even get to experience. I wound up taking a taxi to the botanical garden, and chocolate museum which is where I wanted to go.. and then while trying to find the bus stops 12 or 13 or 14 not one red bus stopped for me they just drove by! I was so angry at this point. So I have no idea where the bus stop was supposed to be. Maybe put a sign! A booth! A person! It was terrible!!!!!! A Piss poor awful no experience in the rain on a Sunday. And since you don't do refunds for your incompetence of putting a simple sign where the bus stops should be. I thought you should know how my day went trying to get on your stupid red bus. Which never happened. Not that the drivers stopped anyway! I will say if you are getting off a cruise ship and want to use the hop on bus dont bother! You'll spend more time trying to find the their hop on bus stop at the cruise port than you will just taking a taxi. Dont waste your money!! Do better! Have someone at the port or a sign!
