This is the second time I've had a reason to come to your emergency hospital. I have found the care and the staff to be outstanding and compassionate. Your front desk staff is pleasant,personable, attentive, and quick. While waiting for our cat, I watched how staff treated other patients as they came and went. One couple was met with our vet tech and a gurney in the parking lot to bring their dog in. Staff were amazing. Today, Dr. Mel thoroughly explained our cats problem and how sedation would be needed for treatment. She took photographs of the cats's mouth to help us understand the problem and she explained what medication we would be leaving with. Our pet was given an injection that would last for two weeks. We went in at roughly 1030 and we were out by 3:30. After the staff time invested, diagnosis, sedation, several medications, surgical work, the fee for service on a Sunday was $760. I thought this was a more than fair and reasonable bill. The vet tech.(whose name I did not get today) did an exceptional job of explaining the statement. Another vet tech, John I met on another day was equally as kind. The entire team seems so cohesive. That is a difficult thing to achieve in any office . This place completely misdiagnosed my dogs issue and just felt like they were seeking how much they can charge first. Even when the Doc said he was worried he sent her home didn't even do blood work and now my dogs in critical condition. Never going here again... On February 5th, 2023 my husband and I brought our beloved cat Yoda to Animal Emergency Service in Selden. The evening before Yoda suddenly without warning collapsed. His two back legs and one front arm became completely paralyzed. Just like every other night he slept with Joe and I. We kept him warm and comfortable wrapped in a blanket snuggled between us. We prayed that a miracle would happen before sunrise. Morning arrived and unfortunately a miracle did not occur. Yoda's 3 paralyzed limbs were cold to the touch, he wouldn't eat and we had to give him water with an eye dropper. Throughout all this Yoda never stopped purring. Shortly after cuddling with him we made the call to AES to give them a heads up that we were coming in with Yoda. When we arrived we were warmly welcomed and were shown compassion. Within 5 minutes we were brought into a room and asked a few questions. They took Yoda to another examination room . We then met Dr Anita Kalonaros who was very easy to talk to, understanding and consoling. She explained that Yoda had three completely paralyzed dead limps that were very likely caused by multiple blood clots. We had already researched Yoda's condition the night before and knew what to expect when we brought him to the hospital. Sadly, it was inevitable. As difficult as this day had become Dr Kalonaros, the tech and staff did everything possible to explain step by step with patience, integrity, compassion and professionalism. We decided to take Yoda home with us and bury him on our property. Staff member John presented Yoda to us wrapped in his favorite blanket in a cardboard coffin box. He also gifted us his paw prints, a Rainbow Bridge Poem and a sympathy card. We were touched by John's parting words and appreciate his empathy. Today we received another sympathy card. Thank you very much. Losing our beloved lil boy Yoda has been emotionally draining , we are struggling everyday that he's not by our side to hug and love. He was an important part of our family. Unfortunately, he passed in my arms as we were on our way. But they were lovely and compassionate, and took care of his cremation for us. read more

We had a really good experience with our dog, Ruby, who was treated for sudden onset diabetes brought on by a recent diagnosis of Cushings. The vets and vet techs were wonderful Special shout out to Janice, who answered our many questions regarding after care for our girl. The ratings for this place are kind of low and in my opinion not reflective of the quality of care we received. This is a good, clean, and caring place. They did not try to "overtreat" either. Beware of Dr Jeremy Sebor. I feel that he makes your fur baby in a worse state than what you brought them in for. Our first experience with this facility was great, thus the reason for going back with another pet emergency. On Saturday May 24th we took our dog to be seen because she had an injury to the back of her ear. It was small in size but was bleeding a lot. (See photos) When our dog was seen by Dr Sebor he said that the laceration was the size of his thumb and that our dog needed to be shaved, sedated and have many stitches to mend her wound. I was surprised by this and asked to see the wound on my dog. He agreed but did not take me to the back to see her, he instead took a photo, with his phone (his words), to show me. I saw a very big cut and questioned him about the size difference and tried to show him my photos of it. He did not want to see my photos, then told me that the cut was flapped over and that's why I hadn't noticed it, which I do not believe. I thoroughly checked and cleaned The wound prior to going to the emergency facility. So after my dog having to be sedated and stitched up, $740.00 later, I called to ask for the photo the doctor took of her wound to be sent to my phone or email for my records. I was told that I was not going to be sent the photo. The doctor said to tell me that he had borrowed a phone from a tech, doesn't know which tech, and that the photo was deleted. I asked the person on the phone if she could ask the technicians in the facility if one of them had loan the doctor, their phone to take the photo. I was told "no", because they didn't know which tech took the photo. But they knew it had been deleted. I told the person on the phone that this is all so sketchy and that I feel that the doctor doesn't want me to have the photo for some strange reason. Then the person on the phone just repeated the same nonsense that she was instructed to tell me. Very suspicious. Needless to say, we will not be returning to this facility and take further action. read more

I can't express how AMAZING they did with my Arlo. My Great Dane was in bad shape, he was in active bloat with flip. This is life threatening, many large breeds don't survive! We arrived -they all worked super fast to get him in x-ray and start medicines. Within a few short hours they started surgery and fixed my boy!! Everyone was super kind every time I called to check up on him, and very informative! When I arrived to pick him up they even gave us a refund for the amount over then the estimate said, total shock! During next few days of recovery they even called to check on him. If we ever have an emergency again they will be the place we run too! Wish they did "normal" vet visits. read more

My dog went there because he took the wrong medication and he is physically healthy. However he seems to be traumatized. He won't go down steps for some strange reason, won't eat, won't drink, won't lick me which usually he can't stop doing, and doesn't want to be inside. read more

I brought in my Stella after she passed 30 minutes prior at home in the middle of the night. I called them and they were so compassionate over the phone and spoke to me with complete transparency over my wishes for her. The receptionist told me to come in when I'm ready and I can have her placed on a hold for a small fee($40). When I got there, the receptionist greeted me with empathy and brought us into a room to say our goodbyes. They then offered to us for them to do prints of her paws and nose. It costed $20. It was the best $20 I've ever spent. The paws and nose prints came out beautiful and the clay paw prints were even better. Unfortunately this was the last time Stella was here and they treated her beyond measure. I am forever grateful for the staff at AES. Thank you. read more

This is Valerie who told us over the phone to bring our NB puppy w a cleft lip in but when we got there she shamed us, saying as breeders we should know what to do and could order tubing supplies at Amazon for a 4am delivery! We are not breeders and just wanted to get this baby help. When I asked her what I needed she responded with Amazon will pop up all the supplies I needed. After she was finished and she could see I was crazy enough to order supplies and try tubing myself (which is not really recommended ) she softened and finally offered up another vet in W islip. I took my baby girl for a biopsy at my family vet the morning of August 2, were our vet sewed her up while not realizing she was still bleeding internally. By 4pm that afternoon, Puddy was in shock and barley coherent. We took her to the Selden Emergency and within ten minutes the vet there had determined that she was internally bleeding and would need surgery if she had any chance of surviving. The vet was upfront and said she had about a 35% change of recovering. Thank to the vets quick action, she survived the surgery and the night. I was able to bring her home the evening of August 3 (she had been transferred to my family vet and then back to me that night) She was still lethargic but had a few moments of playfulness. She even ate of my hand. Unfortunately she took a turn for the worst overnight and I took her back to Selden. The again were honest about prognosis, explain that she wasn't making new red blood cells (a possible complication of cancer, which is why she had the biopsy in the first place). In other words she might never recover, but I wanted to give her the best chance possible and told them to do whatever they could. They never tried to press me into any treatment option, I was the one who handed my credit card and told them to do everything they could, regardless of cost. They called me every few hours to give me an update on her condition. It looked horrible for the start and just kept getting worse. They didn't give up on her until it came to a point that she was in so much pain that it was unethical to keep going. I lost my Puddy, but they did everything they could to save her. I'm thankful for their efforts, and even more thankful that the emergency service they provide gave me one last night with my baby. I got to hold her, I got to pet her, I even got to hear her purr one last time. That time was so precious to me and I wouldn't have gotten it if it weren't for them. We had to take our dog here a week after Halloween for extreme dehydration , vomiting, couldn't hold down water, refusing to eat anything & not pooping . The staff was friendly & compassionate. We couldn't afford to hospitalize him but the dr gave us a few bags of iv hydration and some specialty food. Unfortunately he passed away a week later. He was in kidney failure and suffering and not responding to the hydration ivs. We took him to his vet and put him to rest. The waiting area was clean, but the benches for seating could use some cushioning (we were there 6/7 hours). The pricing is extremely expensive. read more

Very sad day when I brought Tiger to this hospital, he had bleeding non stop that day and they found a cancerous Tumor that had burst and we had to put him down hardest thing I ever did, him being my first and only pet. He would have been 17 in August. Anyway the staff and the vet were amazing and treated him very well. We got to say goodbye in a private room. I'm am speaking on behalf of my mother, her companion dog who she has had since he's a puppy and now only 5 has passed away due to negligence of the vets and staff at Animal Emergency Services in Selden. I will get justice for my mother and her dog benji! On Feb 4th, benji unfortunately was in a fight with another dog. We rushed him over to the animal hospital because he had a wound on his leg that was bleeding. After X-rays. blood work, cleaning the wound putting a drain in the wound to prevent infection we were assured he was fine. On Feb 5, benji vomited and seemed lethargi. again brought back to the emergency vet where they gave two shots for pain and said the wound looked fine, with healthy blood-purple and red. Again sent us home, even said vomiting was normal Feb 6th, my mother called me and my beither in distress that the dog had vomited 3 time and was crying and screaming in pain. my brother rushed the dog to the animal hospital where after CPR the dog died!! They claimed from sepsis! My mother's dog was misdiagnosed! but all awhile continuing to charge and request payment before treatment. before all this he was a healthy happy 5 year old dog with a long life, now my mother has ashes of her beloved benji. The front desk requested 300$ and told my hysterical crying mother she was go to collections. The treatment from the front desk to the vets/assist. Are pathetic to say the least! I will not rest until I tell the community how awful this animal hospital is. If nothing more please for your pets sake don't bring it there!! RIP benji-4/6/24 read more

Our puppy hunter was hit by a car, but by the time we arrived he had passed. The staff was extremely caring and compassionate towards us and let us spend extra time with our puppy to say goodbye. This is the 2nd time using them and again they were amazing. First time was start of covid and we had to put our dog down but had covid. They worked with us and were creative so we could be with her in her last moments without risking anyone's health. It was raining and 11:30pm but they allowed us to take our time. 2nd time, today, we took our cat in, who is already diagnosed with HCM, and gave him a vitals check. Since he was not in pain and already in care with our vet they explained he would be better suited at cardiologist. They gave recommendations and did not charge us, which they had the right too. The staff were super friendly and assured me there was nothing to worry about after pulling the tooth out. I came here awhile ago when my cat had a urinary obstruction. I was seen right away, granted I was here pretty early in the morning, but still. The staff was very nice to me and gentle with my cat. While I was waiting I saw a lot of other people and animals come through and they were all treated promptly and respectfully. My bill was extremely reasonable. PLEASE DON'T TAKE YOUR FUR BABY HERE!!! Despite doing an ultrasound on my pup's liver, ( and I'm doubting they even really did it) they completely misdiagnosed her. I refused hospitalizing her with them because they were simply going to watch her (and make money). If I left her there she would be dead or close to it. They did see she had yellowing in her eyes and did blood work that showed bad liver function but said the ultrasound was ok. They said it was Leptospirosis- which she is vaccinated for - but then the blood work and urine came back negative and they had no answers but kept saying I should hospitalize her. She vomited 2 days later so - I called them asking if they could prescribe an anti/ nausea... guess what they said?? Yep. You guessed it. The "H" word once again. Something told me she'd never come home if I did and I just didn't trust them at this point. I had an uneasy feeling about them. I got her into our vet who REPEATED the ultrasound in front of me - not hidden behind closed doors- which absolutely revealed a very abnormal liver with spots indicating either lymphoma or infectious hepatitis. He completely changed her diagnosis, and medicine and three days later, she's eating again( the appetite stimulate the hospital gave me apparently isn't a really good one) -She's walking outside, not vomiting and is better. She may still only have a few months if it's lymphoma but our vet said it's more time and quality than she would have had being misdiagnosed and not getting the meds she really needed. The only pill the hospital gave her that was correct was Denamarin . She needed three other meds that turned the corner for her. ***THIS AH was also sold to a CORPORATION/-despite some good reviews here and I'm thankful some of you have been lucky-- But this "corporation owned animal hospital" is about making money first and foremost because they have to be. Our girl was suffering and being mismanaged and almost died. They wanted us to admit her so she could sit in a cage afraid, surrounded by strangers all the while getting sicker and sicker because they couldn't even read an ultrasound correctly( if they did it in the first place- who knows?) You also can't see a thing they do because you can't go back with your pet. No way. read more

I was there last night with my cat who was in severe pain and couldn't use her hind legs. We get there and she's taken in the back and about 10 minutes later the vet comes out and tells us what's wrong and says that the best option is euthanasia, like it's nothing. No tact, no gentle sympathy, just "this is what's wrong and euthanasia is the best answer." He also told us this in the waiting area instead of taking us into a room to tell us privately, instead he told us in front of 2-3 strangers. The whole experience was very cold and unemotional from most of the staff, with the occasional bare minimum sympathies from one or two people. Then, after all was said and done and we were paying and getting ready to leave, some of the female employees were laughing loudly and playing around, despite them having that candle that says "if this candle is lit, it means that someone is saying goodbye to their pet. Please be quiet and respectful as this is a difficult time" or some BS like that. I finally went off a little bit because it was just too much for me to keep my mouth shut. If you have the time to do so, go to Veterinary Emergency Group in commack, they will treat you much better. These people care more about the money than your pet read more
