My son is a camp counselor at Camp High Harbour in Clayton and developed an EXTREMELY painful infection in his big toe, which developed very quickly. Medical/Urgent Care facilities are VERY sparse in Clayton and I was told numerous times by my insurance provider as well as ER staff to NOT go to the ER unless it is a time is off the essence, life threatening problem. It not only clogs up the ER, but your insurance company will gaff you if you go without being referred by either your regular doctor or an urgent care facility. We live over 2 hours from Clayton. I found LifePoint Medical & on their site it listed "Urgent Care " and "Walk-Ins" under services provided. It was 2 miles from my sons camp. I registered him on the site, (it was after hours) with his contact info, and told him to go there the next day as soon as he could even if he hadn't heard from them. No one called him so he went as soon as he could get permission from his supervisor to leave (he is in charge of 11 middle school age campers). He "walked in" and was told they couldn't see him. He was right there in the waiting room, limping and presenting with a very simple complaint that could have at least been triaged by a NP, but he was turned away, told to try another facility (that did not list "walk-ins" on their website). I called LifePoint, asked to speak to the Practice Manager, was transferred to a phone that LITERALLY rang for FIVE MINUTES, with NO VOICEMAIL. What kind of medical office does not have v/m's set up??? I called back and told the receptionist that I got no answer, yada yada yada, & asked to leave a message for the PM. Tammie apologized and said the PM was in a meeting for the next hour. She asked me what the situation was, I explained it to her & again, she was very apologetic. She said that the owner (the physician) and his wife (who I am guessing is the PM...) have been told repeatedly that the website needs to be updated so people don't keep walking in, to no avail. She then told me she was going to try and see if the Nurse Practitioner could fit my son into her schedule that day, but that EVERYONE was at lunch (I joked that it was not everyone, that it was everyone but her) and she would do her best to get him seen asap and would call me back. What a star. She was genuinely invested in helping us. Unfortunately she called me back and said that no one was willing to see him. She felt so bad. I told her it was 100% not her fault, she tried her best and I very much appreciated her efforts. She asked me where Jake was, I told her he was at the place she had told him to try but they didn't know if they could see him either. she said she knew the girls at the front desk over there, and that she would call them, which she did, and they did fit him in. She also called my son to check on him. FIVE STARS Tammie! You have a heart, and went above & beyond. More than I can say about your owner, Dr.Beck, who professes on his website to be there (Right off their website) "for the times when the situation isn't life threatening but you need care-and fast-." How do I make my urgent care appointment?" Walk-in - NOPE Same-day - NOPE Online requests (That get ignored) Shame on you Dr.Beck. Shame on you Nurse Practitioner. A sore toe??? Triage/diagnostics 101. But only Tammy cared, she made the calls, went the extra distance and Jake was seen at another facility, and it took all of 15 minutes. A cephalexin script.

After signing in and having a seat for just a few minutes they gave me the standard paperwork to fill out. I was pleased that they didn't ask for the same information repeatedly which is far too common a practice in the medicine. They informed that they wait would by 90 minutes. Not surprising in a small community with limited medical services and no appointment. As predicted I was in the examination room talking to the doctor within 90 minutes. Dr. Jane was attentive, prescribed a remedy that worked effectively within an hours, and sent me home with a prescription to address the issue in the coming days. The doctor was great, and the office staff friendly and efficient.

What a disservice to the community that the only Urgent Care in the county is now closed on Saturdays so you have to drive all the way to Sylva for the closest. They also haven't updated that online, so I had looked up what time they opened on Saturdays online and wasted my gas driving there. Drove to Sylva and I'm not the only one here from Bryson City and it's packed because it's serving 2 counties now. It's such a shame for the community. I understand a lot of people don't want to work on Saturdays, that's why you rotate workers schedules. Please go back to being open on Saturdays and doing the sign in with phone number and you wait in your vehicle until called to come in which is great so you aren't waiting in the waiting room with other people that you may be infecting because you have something worse then them or vice versa. That was a great change during peak Covid time they went to and I don't know why they went back to everyone going inside again the last time I had went there.

Despite this medical emergency occurring before any actual visit, we were charged for the encounter. When I initially contacted the location, Prisma on Tiger Blvd., I was told that "they did some stuff on him," which did not align with what occurred. I was also told their manager said we were not entitled to a refund. After numerous attempts to speak with someone within Prisma, I was finally contacted by Patience Boyd, who informed me that she had reviewed the video footage of the incident. She confirmed that a refund was warranted. That conversation took place on January 30th, and I have yet to receive the refund or any follow-up communication. I have called Patience again to inquire about the status, but I still have not received any response. This situation has been extremely disappointing. I should not have to make repeated calls or navigate multiple departments to receive a refund that Prisma has already acknowledged is due. Given the seriousness of the circumstances, this should have been handled promptly and proactively. Please confirm that the refund is being processed immediately, along with a clear timeline for when it will be completed. If additional information is needed from me, I expect to be contacted without further delay.

Right now with flue cases through the roof, an appointment is highly recommended, but walking in is still possible. I took my wife by yesterday at about 1:00. They took her in after about 10 minutes of waiting. She mentioned that I was not feeling well and the nurse came out and got me to go back with her. The doctor treated us both... Super nice doctor, very thorough and personable - the same is true of the nurse. We both felt like they went beyond the call of duty. They send prescriptions into our pharmacy in Pendelton. Later we found that the pharmacy was out of several of the medications an it would be maybe 4 days before they were back in stock. We called AnMed and they spent a lot of time looking for the meds, they also offered to write me prescriptions that I could take around to any pharmacy. I spent about 2 hours calling and found one with both meds that we needed. (It's scary how quickly we can run out of meds when a large number of people get the flu.) I drove over to AnMed and the nurse met me in the waiting area with an envelop containing two prescriptions as well as a note to the pharmacy to call the doctor of there was any question. She also told the two ladies up front that if I called put me through to the doctor immediately so he could solve any problem. I got home around 9:00 with the meds and the wife is doing better today - thanks to the staff at AnMed going WAY BEYOND the call of duty for us.
