What a mess of a grocery store. Indiana isn't short on grocery stores, but this seems to be the…read morefavorite of many people around the area. The aisles were packed with people everywhere making it hard to shop for a particular item you may have wanted. I wanted to browse the gift card section for a bit, since I was going to be buying a gift, why not buy a gift card here to use where I was going. It was kind of like ninja moves here as everyone else seemed to be having the same idea as me. I had to move carts to look as other entitled people thought they were the only ones looking and it was their right to put their cart wherever they pleased. I finally found a gift card for a store I was going to be going to that day. Went to the front self service checkouts and proceeded to start to check out. Giant Eagle is one of the few places that allows you to purchase a gift card with a Giant Eagle gift card. I was doing just that. Well I hit a snag. I ended up doing my thing at the anti-social-registers and it made me have to go to a register to deal with an employee. Fine, whatever. When I was redoing my transaction with the employee she told me that I was just lucky enough to pick one of the few gift cards that don't let you use the self checkouts. Yay, I must of hit the lottery. After my transaction was done I wanted to use the restroom here before heading onto my next stop, but just my luck they were being cleaned. No matter what I wanted to do in here I hit a snag.

I'm torn on how too write this review. What they have to offer is amazing. But it feels like they…read moreare benefitting off being in Amish country. Maybe I feel that way because the store we had just come from was a full fledged Amish store and this one is reaping the rewards from being in the area. Like the other reviews says, it is a great find in this area. Offering fresh deli meats and cheeses, when there is nothing else around and you don't feel like travelling far to grab a necessity like a meat or cheese. However, unless you are visiting or on vacation I doubt you would make it here anytime soon. It gives vacation vibes, a shop that you would step into to grab a cute souvenir or something to take as a gift. Prices, to me they are steep. But if you are willing to pay, go right ahead. They do have some great things, but a lot of it appears to be mass produced, even the prepackaged items that aren't fresh meat or cheese. It was worth the visit, but you kind of feel like you are in the wrong spot at first. This is part of a working farm, however it also feels like you are pulling into a family's home. The only giveaways that this is a working store is the sign and when you finally approach the door.

On top of all that they sell delicious hot dogs on Saturdays. The store has recently expanded to included lots of country decor to purchase. The owners are wonderful. I would highly recommended you stopping by on your next trip to Smicksburg.
