Absolutely my favorite place to eat when visiting family in Wilkes-Barre. Food and service is wonderful! Very cozy atmosphere too!

My family and I went there for New Year's Eve like we have in past years and my, what a change. There was almost no one there aside from a few tables of couples and a larger party in the back room (10 or so people) not like a wedding reception or anything. That apparently threw the whole place into a downward spiral of service, food availability, and quality. Can't imagine how they could have handled it if it were busy like the old days at Andy's. It was cold, the coat check counter was dark and looked like an exposed storage area for your first impression through the door. There was no music playing, obnoxiously bright lighting and a general feel of unpreparedness. The server apologized repeatedly for the delays and waiting due to this "large" party in the back. New Year's Eve at 6:30 they were out of certain cuts of prime rib, and monesta. The drinks were watered down, they brought the wrong one to a member of our party. My son's chicken parm was overall just not good, the portion of white clam was insulting. The pasta seemed as like it was sitting in the back for twenty minutes drying out. I could go on but you get the picture. It's too bad, it used to be a nice old fashioned place to have a nice time out. I will be surprised if it's there next year. Ok. Where do I start.... So I actually feel bad writing this review, because I'm guessing this place could go under any day based on the quality, location, and circumstances of late. However, I'm always honest in my reviews and don't want to stop now. So here goes... At 615 we pulled up and parked on the side of the old building in a "parking lot" that to say really needs attention would be an understatement. But whatever, there's tons of good places that don't look great on the outside. Didn't think anything of it at the time and we shortly headed inside. The inside has a reflection of characteristics to the outside. I wouldn't say it's dirty...but it still seems kind of unclean? I wouldn't say it's dilapidated...but not in good shape? People around here might try to pass it off as "old school Italian", but that might be an insult to old school Italians. We entered the main dining area and saw a bar with TVs and a few tables. There were maybe 6 tables available with an inordinate amount of unoccupied space at the further end of the room. Only one other table remained occupied during our stay, athough it swapped occupants halfway through. A waitress soon approached us and asked if we had reservations, which we did. She then attempted to seat us at a 2 person table right outside the kitchen door. This made me laugh, because this seems to happen to me often. No big deal...we ask to move one table over and she politely obliges. We then order diet sodas followed by mozzarella sticks and calamari for appetizers. They came out in a fair time period and were served with their "house" marinara. Both looked like the came from a bag (nbd) and at first, the marinara tasted fine; just a little sweet. After a few more bites we both agreed it was too sweet and tasted more akin to ketchup. For the main courses he ordered the chicken parm with a side of alfredo pasta and a salad. I ordered the Fra Diavolo with twice baked potato and side salad. While waiting, the single occupied table switched parties and now had 2 noisy children in tow. Their party (and apparently the waitstaff) thought it was ok to allow their children to watch loud music videos on an ipad all throughout the dinner, much to the frustration of my fiancé. We tried to ignore it, but damn was that disruptive. We finally get our food. My seafood was laid out in a decorative pattern which was nice; it's just too bad they slopped on a layer of spicy ketchup over it. There was also some smell to it that I could not put my finger on, but my scent receptors were signaling my brain to NOT eat this. As another commentor stated, the twice baked potato looked like it was rebaked 20 times. Fiancé's looked fine; he later agreed about the red sauce and said his alfredo tasted like it was from a cheap can. We were so disappointed at the end of our meal that we laid out cash and left. I normally don't let cash just sit on the table, but there was pretty much no one there to take it. My fiancé left feeling horrible because he wanted to take me on a really nice dinner date and this place had good reviews...he was SO disappointed. At the end of the night my only comment was I was just glad I didn't get sick. Again, I feel bad writing this, but I gotta be honest: it was bad. The only saving grace was the staff. They were at least polite. In conclusion...I don't recommend. I think this unfortunately is one of those NEPA restaurants that flourished and lasted for some time because there was just nothing else around. Our once a month ladies of the lake strike again. The service was great. The food amazing. Crab augraten still just as good. Chicken parm and egg plant parm were just as good. It has been at least 20 years since I have been here. The reason for dining here at this time was that they had Sausage Calabrese on the menu. (So we thought). The place is as it was. No problem. So, we start with a cocktails of old fashions, no oranges. They did go to grocery to get one. Apps. Traditional clams, nope,they only do crab stuffed. Ok. Sausage Calabrese. Nope. However,they had Sausage as an add on for the pasta.. What? The online menu is different from actual menu. The restaurant was THE place to go fornItal8an. I understand changes. That said. Re-do the menu so it depicts what is in the kitchen . No excuses. Nothing is worse than going to a restaurant for a specific dish and told from the get go we don't have it. The soup(cappelletti) was said to taste like bouillon. If we choose to return, we will call ahead. It can still be a competitive dining restaurant. If they want to be. read more

Pasta, whether dried store bought or homemade, it's an inexpensive dish unless you're adding expensive ingredients like meat. Both visits from a few years ago and a few weeks ago, I got the gnocchi dish. The "app" is $10.99 and the entree is double that. Needless to say the $10.99 definitely did not fill me because there was barely much of the dumplings on the plate. It's also something inexpensive to make. Any other place that's charged between $9-16 for gnocchi dinner has been a little more reasonable. I got delivery the second time so I don't recall what the place looked like inside. I remember it was clean and well kept though with polite staff. So I'm mainly giving it a 3 star because I think the prices could be lower based on the dish and portions they give you. Also, I tried the marinara sauce because it was voted the best sauce in the area at the festival last year. It was really sweet so I cannot agree. My half Italian heart is weeping that you would sweeten a savory sauce. read more

I have been going here for years but the place has really taken a dive. W ordered togo for my daughter's birthday and were told 25 minute. It took over an hour and much of that time was spent standing in the dining room looking uncomfortable in front of the other diners. A quick 2 minute drive home revealed ice cold dinners that really looked kind of sad. The taste was well below average and my twice baked potato was totally dried out. My 25 dollar crab casserole (menu listed as their specialty) was some lump crab meat in butter. The kids said their ravioli was good but, it is looked like it was just frozen. As I said I have been coming here for years but I think their run is about over. Oh and a COVID cleaning fee tacked on the bill? Seriously! read more

Great food and I would eat here every day if I could. Old school Italian restaurant that is simply wonderful. The lunch entrees are under $10 and I had 8 oz. Ribeye open face and my lunch oartner had fish. All great with asparagus with garlic and out if thus world skin on fries. I eat at 30+ restaurants a month and only one ir two ever get a revisit and this is one. Can't wait till I go back tomorrow for a relaxing meal. Only slight negative is server is slow on drink refills - so relax and enjoy some meals deserve enjoying and savor that time to talk. read more

Having been there for years and decided to go there tonight. The place was not crowded but I was asked if I had reservations. They were three of us. I ordered chicken cacciatore with chicken Pastina soup and my husband ordered spaghetti and meatballs. My son ordered chicken Parmesan, and mozzarella sticks which they were out of. My soup came out and it was horrible. I took one spoonful and it was lukewarm and full of salt. I asked the waitress to take it back and asked them to taste their soup. My chicken cacciatore came out and it was horrible. It was supposed to have marinara sauce in peppers and onions, and mushrooms and the tomato sauce was lumpy, and it had carrots in it. My husband, spaghetti and meatballs was also terrible with the same sauce. Three was no way this sauce was homemade. The entrées weren't even hot. The Chicken Parmesan didn't even look appetizing. I will not return. It was the worst meal I've had in a long, long time. The waitress was nice! read more

Very unhappy with my veal dish.The waitress was fine but my meal was overpriced and the peppers in the entree were undercooked.They didn't have scallops although they were on the menu as N/A/Everybody else has them Im adddition to "market price" on numerous entrees A number of items on the menu were $58,99.I haven't to this establishment in a number of years and I won't be returning/I wish that I could have gone to Isabella's or tried another restaraunt in the Exeter/Old Forge area. read more

Before I go into my review of this place I want to say first I have been reviewing local restaurants for years where I have been giving the people of NEPA an honest review both good and bad. Recently myself and three other people from another food blogging group on social media wanted to meet here because we all have not ate here in years. Now we had a reservation for 7 PM and by walking in we really didn't need one, there were two other parties in the dining room. Now our waiitress I want to say very nice and pleasant, before we actually sat down she let us know there were many choices available to sit and she asked us what table would work better for us. I am assuming she saw the video camera while she was taking our drink order, while she left to get our drinks I turned the camera on myself only and I was looking over the menu for a possible selection. Now this is where it goes sour. Keep in mind there are two other parties, (and I think I know possibly why)? A gentleman comes walking out to our table in a swift way stating please turn off the camera and leave it off. Out of respect I did however I should have left it on, after the camera was off his voice goes from low key to a higher pitch literally talking down on us like we were teenagers basically. Now he could have came over and said something like hey guys I would like you to not film anything, we would have said no problem and continued ordering our food and have a good night. Now I don't know if this was a manager or maybe the owner I honestly don't know. He not only yelled at us in front of his staff which was surprised he acted this way while he yelled at us in front of the other two parties and also had a look on her face like she was embarrassed. Myself and the other people that were with me talked it over and we all felt literally his actions were uncalled for not for what he asked but how he came out screaming at us. As we cancelled our drink order and left one of the staff appologised to one of the people that were in our party stating they had no clue wht he acted that way and asked us how they can follow us on social media. I will never again go to this place, if he talked to us who knows how many other patrons he did this too. Just to say while outside we called another local restaurant who welcomed us with open arms and was thrilled we were going to do a show because they know it would be good for the restaurant with positive advertisement. I'm not really sure what happened here. There seem to be some very good reviews of this restaurant, mixed with really bad. My experience, unfortunately was of the really bad variety. My company had a dinner here, and not being from the area, had never heard of it. I was told by some of the locals in our group that yhe food was great. Most of our table ordered the Delmonico steak, with a twice baked potato. I had the same, with a salad and also a side of pasta. The food was just not good. The steaks were cooked incorrectly, from raw to shoe leather. The twice baked potato was baked at least 20 times, yet still some how cold. The sauce on the soggy penne was flavorless. For desert I had a canoli. While I'm not a canoli expert, most do not have filling that is runny. The service was ok. Our waiter seemed a little overwhelmed, and was worried more about wrapping it up with our party 20 or so people, than doing his job. read more

I have been coming to Andy's with my family since I was a little kid and still go everytime I am in town today. It started with going on Saturday afternoon with my grandparents to sit in the "jungle room" booth right by the entrance - a side of spaghetti and meatballs, a shirley temple from the bar, and great service from all the waitresses who we knew by name and it was a great day! Today, they have remodeled quite a bit, but the menu and quality of the service is still great. They have a great bar to get a cocktail before dinner and a menu full of classic italian favorites to fill you up. My personal favorites are the stuffed mushroom appetizer, the chicken parmagiana entree (classicallly prepared, lots of cheese, tasty marinara sauce) and a sandwich they call the Little Theatre (an amazing invention that is basically a homemade meatball sandwich on some italian cheesy garlic bread). The rest of my family swears by the Crab Naomi and the Prime Rib special. Andy's is truly one of a kind - an institution in Luzerne that represents the kind of great history of this area. I really hope that other people will take their families there to establish the kind of wonderful tradition that my family has in coming to this restaurant for over 30 years. read more

Very disappointed. I thought the yelp reviews were good so we gave it a shot. We were intrigued by the old school reviews and were looking for that old Italian mafioso experience. What we got was grandma's basement. Complete with tacky Halloween cutouts. I got the broiled seafood platter. It was pricey and overcooked. Think crunchy. Makes husband got the chicken parm. It was ok, but again overcooked. Don't get me started on the salad bar style breadstick basket and saltines assortment. Or the bagged salad with the preservative flavor. There are many Italian bakeries nearby, don't understand why they can't serve homemade italian bread. The best part of this dining experience was the super sweet waitress. read more

I went here with two friends to celebrate a birthday because the birthday girl gets to choose the restaurant. My other friend and I will never go back to this place again. The restaurant has an old moldy smell. All the tables are too close together. Our waitress ignored us for the most part and did not get our order right. My chicken was dry and the gnocchi we ordered to share wasn't prepared as described on the menu. I also haven't decided whether serving a basket of crackers instead of bread is an acceptable substitute. I have had waaaay better Italian dinners and this place is off the beaten path, so I don't know why people would visit here repeatedly. read more

Went for my mother-in-laws birthday. Everything was ok but nothing really popped. Had a house special - Fettucine ala Andy. Maybe Andy was not working that night but nothing to catch your flavor buds as a special of the house. Crackers and breadsticks vs a real nice Italian bread was disappointing. Hands down my favorite restaurant in this area! Both the food and the service are just fantastic. This used to be our little escape for the evening when we managed to have a babysitter but now we bring the kids and they LOVE it. You just can't go wrong with dishes like Chicken a la Andy, Chicken Francaise...the lasagna....everything right down to the shrimp cocktail is simply delicious. And the service is just wonderful. Terrible service. The waitress was distracted. No water brought to the table with our bottle of wine. Ordered the del Monaco steak medium rare and it came out well. the linguini and clams in white sauce ended up being a cream based with very overcooked shrimp. The waitress didn't come back to see how we liked (or completely disliked) our food until we were ready to get it off of the table because we were sick of looking at it. The steak that wasn't touched was boxed up to go and unfortunately will be thrown away because it wasn't edible. What a waste of $125!! So now we are headed to have a real meal elsewhere. read more

My bosses been telling me about this place for over a year he said he never had a bad meal there it was always wonderful. Will last week I was fortunate to go with him for lunch there it was beautiful. It reminded me of dinner at my grandmothers house in Brooklyn when I was a boy. A delicious old-time Italian restaurant! We are from out of town and were invited there for a bereavement. We were served family style. The fruit cup was outstanding... so very fresh chunks of perfectly ripe fruit! Salad was good. Chicken Ala Andy (breaded chicken/white wine sauce) was incredible... tender! The white wine sauce was delicious, as well! The one down side was the roast beef... cheap cut and very, very tough! Quite a disappointment! (Would have given a 5 star if not for the roast beef.) Staff were just a delight, worker bees! Go try the Chicken Ala Andy... you won't be disappointed! read more

The waiter was nice and friendly , the food is another story. The chicken Parmesan was chicken tenders topped w mozzarella on top of a bed of ketchup. This is a joke of a restaurant. My so called "fettuccini alfredo" was covered in a bath of oil. Not sure what they were thinking here but to top it off the marinara sauce tasted sweet and my aunt said her side pasta was covered in sour cream. Yum. Waitress was using a strange strategy of keeping everyone on their toes during service. No one was sure if she would come back to the table ever. Then they masterminded a plan to rip everyone in our party off by telling us the credit card machine was out of service after we had just ate a $200 meal. This is important information for patrons as they enter a restaurant , not when they are trying to leave. We each had to use their atm which charges a $2.50 fee plus charges from our banks- ended up being about $15 in charges for us. Then the waitress swindled us out of an extra $20 and then played dumb when confronted about it - she said the owner (was in on her scheme and) had counted the same amt of money. While our dispute was going on other people were paying with credit cards and leaving around us. Paying the bill here was like a surrealist nightmare. Very $hi-Ty service but good food - not good enough to make up for the service. read more

If you can get past the dated decor and furnishings, you will enjoy the food here. The jumbo crab appetizer is amazing. First of all, its actual jumbo lump crab. then theres the spicy cocktail sauce to dip it in which is properly seasoned with the perfect amount of horseradish. I usually stick with a few plates here. Either the prime rib, veal marsala or the Fra diavlo. The fra diavlo is probably my favorite. Service can be hit or miss here unfortunately. read more

My whole family used to go to perugino's growing up. In fact, I'm sure it was our families first favorite restaurant when we moved to the valley twenty years ago. Now i go with my husband and it's still just as delicious as always. But it makes me a little sad to see as i get older it's less busy. It has to be the economy, because the food just keeps getting better. it's also not in a great location... i hope people read these reviews and check it out! True story, peruginos was the first place i ever had fettuccine alfredo... it's so amazing, creamy, not clumpy, not milky, perfect pasta. perfect Parmesan. Now, as an adult, whenever i order fettuccine alfredo at a restaurant i am ALWAYS dissapointed. nothing can compare to perugino's on this dish. Also, for some reason, peruginos has the best italian dressing i've ever had. I can't find it anywhere, and ive tried probably hundreds. some more favorites are the prime rib with baked potato, crab stuffed halibut, shrimp scampi, and chicken parm. GO NOW! read more
