He initially operated on my left hand to remove a pyogenic granuloma on my left hand - something that was bleeding and hurts every time I held a golf club - which is my favorite past time. I had full anesthesia, and Dr. Butler worked carefully to remove that annoying granuloma. I have been fine for some time, and back to doing every day things and also playing golf - all thanks to Dr. Butler. 2. A few years ago, I had suffered from de Quervain's tenosynovitis, a condition that brought severe pain to my left wrist - esp. every time when I swing a golf club. I went to several other orthopedic surgeons but no one can help me. Dr. Butler patiently administered not 1, not 2, but 3 cortisone injections, and after the 3rd injection, the problem went away. 3. A few months ago, my left ring finger started to click when I would wake up, and as it turns out, this is a symptom called Trigger Finger. Dr. Butler first tried a few cortisone injections, but they didn't work. Dr. Butler then recommended surgery, which worked well. 4. Left wrist tendonitis: Dr. Butler asked me to get the wrist brace, and use it in concert with Volterran, and both are working. When other doctors were not effective, Dr. Butler always finds a solution. If you need an excellent hand surgeon, look no further than Dr. Butler. Thanks.

Courteous, good bedside manners, empathetic, and most importantly, experienced. I've also found Dr Dragoo's medical assistant, Andrea, to be kind and very helpful as well. It's a bit unnerving to have one, two, sometimes as many as four fellows/residents/visiting doctors in the examining room at the same time, but they've never been anything but quiet and professional. Although all four sports medicine orthopedists (Dragoo, Safran, McAdams, Fanton) can treat all your joint ailments, they do sub-specialize a bit (i.e. Dragoo for knees, Safran for hips, McAdams and Fanton for shoulders and elbows). Dr Dragoo is a top-notch knee guy, and the only diagnostician amongst ~10 local orthopedists to really recognize the root of what was causing my symptoms. Be aware appointment slots are limited, as Dr Dragoo only holds clinic two days a week, so schedule a visit ASAP (you can always re-schedule or cancel if need be). Dr Dragoo currently has clinic on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, operating on Mondays and Thursdays. I've appreciated the timely phone/email responses from Dr Dragoo's fellows and Andrea in between office consultations.

I went in for a painful chronic foot condition I have had for a few years now hoping that since this was Stanford I would get some top-quality treatment. What I got instead was possibly the worst treatment I've had yet: 1) Dr. Chou never even asked to look at any of my medical records, despite the fact that I special ordered MRIs, X-rays, and EMGs 2) She made a recommendation of orthotics and NOTHING else. Refused to prescribe any medications and would not recommend anything over the counter. Basically had absolutely no suggestions to offer whatsoever, not even vitamins or anything. 3) When asked about someone who could fit the orthotics in the city (SF) since that was much easier for me given my inability to walk well, I was told to see only her colleague who was "only 5 minutes away from here" When I told her that getting "here" (Redwood City) was extremely painful and difficult for me Dr. Chou actually said "well you made it down here today" and would not recommend anyone closer to where I live. 4) Refused to even discuss an option of surgery despite 2 other reports from other orthopedists I saw recommending it. and 5) Rushed me out the door in less than 10 minutes. The fact that this person collected hundreds of dollars from the insurance company for this appointment makes me sick.

Either he would help me or he would help me find the right doctor to fix my problem. My symptoms were atypical, something I kept hearing. Dr Butler recommended a test to try to narrow the diagnosis. As this test was being done, my dr said call your ortho and set up your appointment. You have a carpal tunnel problem. Fast forward, I had surgery and my arm is in recovery. This is a surgeon you can trust with a scalpel near your spinal cord! Dr. Von Koch was referred to me by the head of the UCSF spine center because I was a member of Kaiser health plan. I didn't know at the time she was part of a neurosurgical specialty hospital which serves the S.F. Bay area. Everyone at this center was friendly, supportive and competent. All the nurses told me Dr. Von Koch was the best surgeon. At 80 years my back had many issues but the most urgent one was stenosis at L2-3 and L4-5. It has been 3 months since my operation and my back is far more flexible. Before the operation for the "bridge pose" I couldn't get my butt more than one inch off the ground. Now I can do a full bridge pose even supported by one leg. I am so very grateful for Dr. Von Koch's skillful surgery.

It has been eight months since I visited the primary care doctor for my neck pain and left leg pain. My journey to Dr. Von Koch began about 3 months ago, I started having tingling and burning sensations down my left side of the body down from the chest. I described my symptoms to my primary care doctor, and initially, he said that my condition was common and referred me to a physical therapist who would teach me to strengthen core muscles in order to improve my posture. After a couple of months since my symptoms didn't go away, he referred me to a rehabilitation specialist, who in turn has referred me to a neurosurgeon at Kaiser. I did a lot of research, explored all the alternatives, and visited Dr. Von Koch of my own choosing and decided to put my faith in her. So glad I did. I checked out Dr. Von Koch's credentials at https://mydoctor.kaiserpermanente.org/ncal/providers/corneliavon_koch and was favorably impressed. My first appointment with Dr. Von Koch was very encouraging. She's a happy person who enjoys the respect of her staff and is a pleasure to be around. She performed some strength tests on my hands and legs. She looked at my MRI and said that my condition was caused by C6-7 stenosis. She explained what spinal stenosis is and initially offered c6/7 arthroplasty vs ACDF. She asked me a lot of questions and suggested I get all the prior images of my cervical spine to further investigate, none of my earlier doctors cared about those prior images at all. On the next visit, Dr. Von Koch showed me the bone spurs in the MRI that were threatening my nerves. Given the extent of disc osteophyte at c6/7 and congenital narrow canal, disc arthroplasty is less of an option and recommended ACDF c6/7 instead. She also encouraged me to get a second opinion if that makes me comfortable and gives me peace of mind. It was a hassle to catch hold imaging department at Kaiser to upload my prior images, Dr. Von Koch is very compassionate about her patients and made things easy for me by asking to drop prior images at her office and she took care of the rest. After my prior images are scanned in, Dr. Von Koch sent a message explaining that there is a slow progression in my condition over the years. Meantime I went to see an orthopedic surgeon at the UCSF Spine Center for a second opinion. Not only Dr. Von Koch reviewed other doctor notes of my visit, but also explained to me that he proposed a potentially bigger surgery 'corpectomy' depending on the amount of calcifications at the disc level. She explained to me that it would be good to avoid the corpectomy but if the calcified disc is too high then the whole vertebral body may need to come out. Dr. Von Koch encouraged me to confirm again with the UCSF doctor about his surgical plan so that I can make an informed decision. While I am still going through the pain and confused about the next steps, I feel fortunate to have Dr. Von Koch as my doctor who is always kind and compassionate about her patients. If you are looking for a neurosurgeon at Kaiser, look no further. You found one. She is a true gem of a person and an awesome neurosurgeon!

The staph infection coming from that hospital metastasized in my hip resulting in sepsis. A recent hip replacement, now infected and damaged, many surgeons would steer clear of that liability.
