The smell of freshly baked bread is intoxicating. Whenever I'm in Chelsea Market, a visit to Amy's is always on the top of my list. This is my go to place for French Baguettes. I appreciate that they come in all shapes and sizes. They also offer pastries, breakfast items, cupcakes, cakes by the slice, pizza, quiches, soups, sandwiches, and a variety of other hand-made breads. The employees are funny, friendly, helpful, and quick. Seating is limited here. The baguette has a lovely golden brown color. The crust is crispy. The middle is slightly chewy and sweet. Delicious! I'm a fan of their cupcakes and cakes as well. The Pink Frosting on their Yellow Cake is a bit sweeter than I'd like but it's extremely smooth and creamy. I was told I needed to try their chocolate cupcake and my friend was correct....it is amazing. For less than $3, you get a high quality cupcake. There is plenty of seating at this location. They have breads, sandwiches, cake slices, coffee, cookies, etc. The staff was friendly and efficient. I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon and it was quiet. Amy's Bread is a bakery located in the Chelsea Market (they have other locations as well). I tried a red velvet cupcake and a slice of the apple pie. I was a bit disappointed by both items! The red velvet cupcake was a bit too dry for my tastes. The icing on the top tasted more like tasteless whipped cream to me. I was not a huge fan of this cupcake. The apple pie was decent but definitely on the super sweet side. I had about two bites before I decided I couldn't eat any more pie. I liked the crust though. It was very crumbly. read more

A work in Chelsea Market, so I've definitely tried my share of Amy's Bread creations. Here are some thoughts... Grilled Cheddar Biscuit with Ham and Cheese: It was definitely cheese-squared, with a lovely buttery biscuit texture that blasts every other biscuit-based breakfast sandwich I've had before it. A good savory choice for sure. Cinnamon Challah Knots: chewy, lightly cinnamony, with a nice sweet glaze. A great not-too-sweet breakfast baked-good choice. I would definitely get this again. It was like the grown-up, socialite sister to the far-sweeter, heart-clogging, gooey cinnamon bun. Almond Brioche Toast: rich and tender and tasted like sweet Amaretto, even though I'm pretty sure it was alcohol-free. The flavor and fragrance almost knocked me off my chair, so incredibly flavorful, and yet not overwhelmingly sweet, the perfect breakfast or snack! I stand by my choice! Pain au Chocolat: The best I've ever had were in Paris (of course), but these were very acceptable for American versions. They were flaky, but the chocolate was pretty cold. I would have loved it it the filling was still gooey, nothing beats that! I know they are fresh, but they certainly had time to cool off before I purchased one. Chocolate Twist and Chocolate Sourdough Twist: the original uses their challah dough while the other uses sourdough. I bought both chocolate twists to try and decided to warm them up a bit in the toaster oven before enjoying them. What an excellent plan! The chocolate got super gooey and the breads warmed up just enough to freshen them up a little. My favorite was the original chocolate twist, made with challah dough. It was chewy like the sourdough one, but softer and with a great, mild flavor. The sourdough was more dense and had that characteristic sour flavor, which was good, but not as preferable with the chocolate. Warming them up was a great idea, but even without that extra touch, I'm sure these would be delicious! Sandwiches (in general): they are wrapped in plastic, and probably spent most of the day suffocating in there. When I tried their sandwiches, they lacked any crust that may have existed when the sandwich was first prepared. It was quite disappointing. Not my highest recommendation. Organic Country White Batard: I loved the texture, a great balance of chewiness and crunch, which was perfect for my smoked salmon! I love Amy's Bread, but have found their customer service can be hit or miss. The morning manager was rude to me once even though I was a regular. I could take away another star, but in truth the baked goods make up for it. The breads are reliable, as are most breakfast pastries. I wouldn't get the sandwiches if I were you since on both occasions they've been disappointing. read more

Was craving carbs while walking around Chelsea Market and this pistachio croissant twist was just what I needed! The shape was a bit awkward to make it look good on this plate, but nonetheless the presentation was beautiful and it was the right mix of salty and sweet. Most of the pastries I saw while walking around Chelsea Market were really tiny portions, but I was glad this was a little bigger so I could share with friends and that the filling wasn't too rich. Ohh Amy! Girl, no. I live in Hell's Kitchen and work in Chelsea Market, so you're a mainstay for me. Breads and baguettes are always lovely. But the baked goods and pastry, cakes specifically are fully 50/50 odds at any location . Today I bought 2 pieces of unacceptably oily foccicia (and I get it, I bake too, a lot.. olive oil is a critical flavor and feature of the bread, but this... was way too far and fatty, with not nearly enough salt or savory or compensate). But the reason I'm writing this review is for the German Chocolate Cake, which was straight up inedible. I got a slice around 5:30pm, on a likely day old (or two) cake. No shame in refrigerating a cake, but ABSOLUTE shame in throwing it in a fridge overnight with savories, considering the buttercream frosting and base... it ALL absorbed garlicky-weird-savory-fridge flavors. My partner and I were both super confused by the flavors, but as seasoned bakers ourselves, the error was clear. Moreover, the crumb collapsed as it was an older cake and took what is usually a dense but moist chocolate cake to a mealy and fridge-stink infused cake and frosting. Chelsea Market would not be complete even with its plethora of baked shops without the likes of an Amy's Bread offering their famous selection of cakes, breadsticks, and the incredible almond brioche. The quality of products and selections are on par with locations in Greenwich Village and Hell's Kitchen. The staff is wonderful and friendly to talk to and are extremely helpful with recommendations if you are undecided. Chances are you will end up ordering way more than you need. Very solid bakery in Chelsea market with a great selection of lunch/cafe options. There's limited seating but you can find a stool by the entrance during non-peak/meal times. Some must-try items: 1. Honey Cake: Moist with the perfect amount of sweetness. Mini loaf is $8 and they have whole rings for $23. 2. Raisin Walnut Loaf: Nutty with a hint of sweetness. Great on it's own or with chicken salad or butter. 3. Coconut Dream Bar: Amazing! It's the coconut version of a brownie. 4. Chicken Salad Sandwich: Amazingly creamy and indulgent with cranberries all on raisin walnut bread. Seriously, this is one of my fav chicken salad sandwiches. 5. Pecan Walnut rolls: $.70 for a bite-sized roll. Perfect for a snack. The cashiers are very helpful and friendly and prices are very reasonable. Sticky Bun Perfection Woah! Amy's Bread makes the most amazing sticky buns in NYC and quite possibly the East Coast. The buns are sweet, but not overly sweet. Sticky, but wont leave your hands covered in sugary goo. They are soft, fresh, they melt in your mouth and the pecans add a welcoming crunch that beautifully ties everything together. Long story short, these buns are truly heaven in your mouth with a side of pure amazingness on top of amazingness! My only issue with the sticky bun is that there's not more of it! I need more sticky bun in my life right this very instant! All sticky buns should strive to be as amazing at Amy's Bread! The Almond Brioche Toast (crust a tad too crisp) and the Rosemary Twist were super yummy. However they were a minor let down compared to the all holy sticky bun! Get it! Don't let the small line distract you, it moves fast and the goodies are amazeballs! The black and white cupcake I ordered was amazing! I was actually really surprised at its taste. I am a cupcake connoisseur, and so for me to really like a cupcake takes a lot. The inside decor was also very nice. I liked the blue walls and the wooden elements, I also enjoyed seeing "Amy's" picture on the wall. She was smiling while holding bread. I was like go girl, look at you making your dreams come true! I rated 3 stars only because I did also order this olive bread twist, and I must say I was incredibly disappointed. It was hard and not very good at all. To be honest I threw it away. For the price I feel like it should have been in my stomach and not the trash. But it could be that they were made in the morning and by the time I arrived they had been out all day and stale. Who knows. Disclaimer, this can be categorized as a vindictive review... My biggest complaint is that there was no indication that my sandwich would be spicy. I have a few health issues that prevents me from enjoying spicy food, so I was very disappointed that a bite into my sandwich lit my mouth on fire. The line is too long to even bother asking for another. Please put some indication next to the sandwich name, people. I've never been to a place that didn't have at least a hint to the level of spiciness, whether that be through the contents of the dish or a little warning. First time at Amy's Bread, which is inside Chelsea Market where there is a great deal of stores and boutiques. You can buy breads, pastries, cake, cookies, sandwiches, and lunch items . Amy's has an assortment of cold drinks and of course you can buy your choice of coffee, lattes, etc..Small space, but if you'd like to eat in, there is a small seating area with stools. I purchased a few different rolls which were all tasty, and the ham and cheese croissant was delicious albeit it cost 6.25, not sure if that was correct since my receipt said bacon and egg?? Hmmm? Didn't notice until I was already on the train, will check that out next time..I also bought a slice of Brooklyn Blackout cake, yummy!! The coffee on the other hand was not so great, but then again, I'm very picky about my coffee..I would recommend Amy's everything else was great!! read more
