On the coaster from the 1120 am train from San Diego going to Encinitas and the city for the day on the coaater.
Joel C.

with the travel o. the many trains for the coaster easier to buy tickets through the machine with Amtrak you have to make reservations and tickets much higher in price.Boardibf the Coaster Train at Santa Fe Station you can purchase tickets at the station and have time to board the Coaster. For the Amtrak you can purchas alcohol for your ride but rules are different no alcohol on the Coaster for the safety of others . The Coaster is more of a relaxing rid you can see the many places for when the ocean comes up the looks down on the many areas of the coast . My day on the coaster has been of the most interesting with loud kids that can be disrupting and you try to enjoy the ride. At the station the ticket machines have been having problems with operating when I arrived at the station Santa Fe being able to purchase a ticket that $3.25 for senior disabled with a round trip is $6.50. For the coaster train they do have much more cleaning for the ceiling you can see the dirt of the old trains that looks as though the top was removed and changed several times.Tjis is the first part of the coaster trip to Encinitas for the train ride to see much more .

First time taking a train in US, it is from San Diego to Los Angeles Union Station, only costs you 36 bucks, super worth it. The ride is along coastline, it's quite an experience, it's pretty quiet and quick, better than I expected. On the train, they have two floors, the 2nd floor is full of seats with less space, 1st floor is relatively spacious, more leaning towards giving to the old folks who are not convenient to climb the stairs. They also provide luggage stack up stands which are very useful. Recommended!

They have the standard 3.5m audio jack and the USB-C headphones in the little shop inside. I needed to buy some last minute to work on the train. I always get business class going from Oxnard to Santa Fe Depot station. You get free snacks in business class. There's also certain seats that are newer in business class, I feel like the air conditioning is way better in the newer sections.

What Amtrak will be if they don't get their shit together.

Where is the customer service on the surfliner? Herded like cattle, talked to like a piece of shit, and the opening greeting is an open threat to stow your bag or pay for the extra seat. Let an Amtrak employee know they suuuuck today.

The App, they want all your info and method of payment with account numbers. Basically access to your money before booking anything. And when I emailed to cancel the account they wanted my home address.... their selling your info to third parties without your permission. Wasted over an hour finally had to call a booking agent. Tried going from San Diego to Washington State. No Routes available!!! When I've taken this trip before. They can not show you a map where the track is out or not usable. It's all hush hush hush, can't tell the truth without having to hide the rest of the truth. Here is the truth. If you have something to hide. You really do not need my business. My new 2022 Toyota Prius with an avg of 55 mpg and I can do it faster than you can going 10 mpg under the speed limit. I'm sorry you've got to bus folks for 5 hours. EPIC Fail. Your App EPIC Trash, DELETED IT. Amtrak rates at the top of my cheesy company list. seriously!!!

I love riding the Amtrak when I take trips to Santa Barbara. I always travel Business Class because it's seems to be less crowded and you get complimentary snacks and a small bottle of wine (or soda, water if you like). They also offer coffee, pastries and newspapers. You pay a little more for your ticket but it's worth it. The staff members working on the train are friendly and helpful. Each time I have traveled on Amtrak the trains have been on time, clean and the rest rooms are clean. The train station in downtown San Diego has a coffee stand, information booth and restrooms. At this particular station the trolley stops here as well, this makes it convenient to get too. The only negative is parking. Be prepared to be dropped off because you can't park near the station. Once you are on the train and moving down the tracks you can visit the snack bar for a variety of food items, cocktails, and beer.

Can we park and leave our cars here for free if we take the train?

I don't know the answer to that. Being in downtown San Diego, I highly doubt it.

If you go business class you get coffee and muffins on the way up and wine and a nice snack box on the way back to San Diego.

The Santa Fe Depot was built by the bygone railroad of that name. I'm old enough to remember the advertising slogan "Ship and travel Santa Fe--all the way!" This is one of relatively few major railway stations that have both been preserved largely in their original form, and continue to serve rail passengers. It is a beautiful Mission-style building from the early 20th Century, and will give you a feel for what rail travel was like in its heyday. Gorgeous tile work and some nice landscaping make this a great place to wait for a train. (Search "Santa Fe Depot (San Diego)" on Wikipedia for more on its history and architecture.) For Amtrak passengers, this is a staffed station with ticketing and checked baggage services. Amtrak staff are courteous and helpful. The waiting room is large and has plenty of old-style bench seating. There is a designated waiting area for seniors and people with disabilities needing assistance in boarding. There are restrooms, but Amtrak often has difficulty in keeping unhoused people from making a mess or using the facilities for things other than immediate relief. So at times, not everyone will find them comfortable to use. In addition to the Trolley, the Santa Fe Depot is also served by several MTS bus lines. There is a paid parking lot run by a third-party provider. No free parking nearby. There is a small kiosk--the Silver Streak Cafe--selling food and drink. See my separate review.

I was mistaken. There are some decent ocean views but it's a very small portion of the ride. I did business class and ended up in seat that didn't recline or have a foot rest. That combined with a small package of Oreos and potato chips, to me didn't justify the price increase to business. I did research online ahead of time and was lead to believe there would be full reclining chairs fun snack packs and even a glass of wine or beer - none of that was true on the train we got. So keep that in mind if you see fun take the train videos. My fault I should know better than to believe what I see online. Also, its good to know that there less business cars then coach by half so finding a seat with a good view in business is difficult. None of that is a deal breaker or that big of a deal mostly just interesting information to temper expectations. However, the behavior of the ticket taker really sunk this trip. We were at a 4 top for 2 of us and he said that would be fine unless a larger group boarded. We agreed and would've gladly offered up our seats especially if a family with children boarded. we were on it for 6 hrs so figured if we had to move around a bit it'd be no big deal but we'd stay put as long as we could. A group of 3 did get on a few stops later all very grown adults one sat across from us and we made space even giving him the charger. They were only on for one stop and didn't need the group seating. Next to us was another 4 top that had only 1 guy at that the ticket taker never spoke to or warned he may have to move. When he came up and noticed that they were a group of 3 he said we have to move for them. No problem, I started to say we're fine to move he cut me off at we're fine and said no you're not fine you need to move, they're a group and of course they won't ask for your seats but you have to move they shouldn't have to even ask. I tried again to help the situation and explain that I meant we would move but he cut me off again and proceeded to raise his voice to us and not allow me to speak. The group, that we already spoken to said no no it's ok we don't need it, which made him even more angry. He finally left and I offered to the other riders to just switch seats if they wanted to face each other and told them we're more than happy to exchange seats. Right after that the single guy next to us left and they took those seats and were totally fine until they got off shortly after. In retrospect I wish I would've stood up for myself better stating that I was trying to say I'd be happy to move and even explaining that we had already spoken to them. I didn't expect to have to defend myself this way while paying extra (too much) for public transportation. That interaction, which I've read isn't uncommon among Amtrak employees, with the general state of the train means I will not be a repeat customer and will not recommend this ride to anyone. I'm super bummed as I was very looking forward to this and hoped to love it.
