I was not taken back for an additional 15-20 minutes (she was running late from prior appointment). Thank goodness I only booked a half leg wax. Was a bit grossed out that she used a metal spreader (looks like a cake spreader) for my legs and kept reusing in the wax. Unsure why as there were wood sticks next to the wax. Gross but I'm hoping it was my fresh wax and not used again. Certainly wouldn't have tolerated that for a bikini or other wax. The ladies were nice. The hygiene is just not up to my standards.

I've been to two different locations, here at the Spuistraat (it's local to my workplace so lunch-time pedis are a go-er) and also to the Van Baerlestraat. The Spuistraat store is so lovely, definitely worth a visit if you're looking to treat yourself. Make sure to BYO your own nail colour because the selection they have is limited unless you buy one in-store. This is the only quibble I have, considering yes, you already pay a fair price, surely nail colours should be provided too? But never fear, nail polish addict that I am, I have plenty of my own! I've visited on two different occasions, once for a shellac manicure + regular pedicure and once for a new set of acrylics and a pedicure. The male nail technician there is definitely more thorough - my nails took twice as long (!!!) to get ready as my friend's did. However, I still noticed that the size and shape of some nails are a bit off. They don't look bad at all (in fact, I've gotten several compliments), they're just not perfect. I am willing to come back for the same job regardless. Their pedicures aren't great, and I will probably go somewhere else for that next time. The lady was rushing through the job and it got uncomfortable. The water was way too cold, even when I asked for it to be heated. A 30 second "massage" was included. Not worth €35. They offered tea or coffee while we waited for the polish to dry. They don't accept cards (there's an ATM in the supermarket across the street). Walk-ins are fine.

So I've waited as long as I possibly could and last week my feet started to drive me crazy so I googled pedicures in Utrecht, found a few things with decent pricing but Image was the most conveniently located so I booked it and the very next day I was ready for my close up. I mean, pedicure. The guy that owns and runs the place is very friendly and did a great job on my feet. I'm very ticklish, so I jumped a few times but he kept on going and my feet are nice and smooth and my nails are now perfectly pink. So, happy me! Now, I think when you book an appointment the allotted time is thirty minutes for the pedicure, but with some extra time soaking in the tub and extra time under the dryer afterwards everything took about an hour, which I don't mind. I like to take my time to be pampered. And because it's winter and you have to wear shoes outside he even said that if the paint does chip, I can come back and he'll fix it. Luckily, no fix necessary as everything was professionally done.

Best thing is that you can walk-in, which I did, and I was told to come back in 30 minutes. When I returned, they took me fairly quickly. The pedicure was heaven, and the person doing the job was great. I then had a manicure, which was also excellent. If you find yourself in Amsterdam needing a nail salon, I highly recommend Crystal Nails. You should know in advance that they only take cash, and no credit/debit cards.

But in all seriousness, is pretty much a local hole in the wall place. I guess if you've never been to an actual professional salon, some people would think its a decent basic nail place.. Not even decent.. well for one, I am a professional nail tech myself. I gave the place the benefit of the doubt and gave it a try on a whim. I've been traveling for two weeks and needed mainly my foot scrubbed and massaged. There was also a huge language barrier and all I asked for was the pedicure. Which as advertised €20. I also had gel polish on from a prior treatment. (Was an extra €5 to remove.. ok sure.) They had no idea how to take it off except to scrape and file the gel off my nails down thin to where it was hurting and still is. The nail wasn't even buffed. It's rough as you'll see.. the cuticles not trimmed.. but honestly I was scared for her to even cut me so whatever. The skin around my nail beds is sensitive from so much filing, they trimmed my toe nails down very short to the quick, uneven and jagged.. I couldn't even complain. They didn't understand. So much happened and it was almost comical but traumatizing.. I remained calm and tried telling her I didn't need anymore servicing, ended up paying €31 instead of €20. PROS: None honestly.. By the end of my service, one lady there who is Thai did speak English.. (too late for me) CONS: It is an EXTRA €2 for Polish, no base or top coat either (Not included in pedi service) EXTRA €4 for a 5 minute Massage (also not included in the €20 service) €8 for 10 minute foot massage. And no gel/shellac options either. No actual pedicure chairs with tub, just a plastic cleaning bucket they bought, wrapped with plastic and filled with a little warm sink water.. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY unless your a minimalist of such things and just don't care about your toes nails.
