The churros are excellent as in Madrid, the coffee was surprisingly not that good, which was very disappointing considering that any random coffee shop in Spain usually served excellent coffee! Service was the worst, the waiter sent half the powdered sugar on my lap while whipping the table and didn't care to apologize, this too was such a disappointment considering that service was always excellent at the Madrid location. Bottom line it may be worth the visit for the churros and the great patio on Alicante's promenade, but expect rude service and average coffee.

Valor is a manufacturer of chocolate selling to stores throughout Spain. An old company with a long history (since 1881) - they even have a chocolate museum at their headquarters in Villajoyasa (I didn't visit). Cafes are operated under a franchise, there are some 20 "chocolaterías" in different parts of the country (Madrid, Valencia, Zaragoza, Barcelona etc). The one in Torrevieja has nice retro interior design (look at the door handles) and calm old style atmosphere. Location is excellent - close to Plaza de la Constitución - the center of the center. Good place to meet up, it's easy to find, everyone knows it and people seem to love it. Their specialty is chocolate (any kind of it), I guess their churros are super popular too. They also serve pastries, toasted bread and jamón. 4 stars because churros must be banned everywhere, or at least excised like cigarettes (just kidding, come try them) :-)

What not to like?…read more Enjoyed watching their modern machinery in operation - packaging robots, conveyors, tubes etc (pics not allowed). There's a shop offering a wide range of chocolate, including exotic varieties like chocolate with salt (I regret I didn't buy it). Tours start every hour. Most are in Spanish but you won't miss much. Come early and take a ticket from the machine at the entrance. On the downside - the time in the museum is very limited. There's a lot to see and take pictures of. Now the real downside - they wouldn't reveal their "secret formula" of making chocolate (I asked). Five stars anyway!

Valor is a Villajoyosa (Alicante) based chocolate manufacturer operating a network of cafeterias in their spare time. Old business with long history, much respected by locals. Valor chocolate bars are sold here too, good option for small gifts on your way to where you are flying to. Prices in the airport are slightly higher than in town. Closes earlier than some other places in the airport, hurry up!
