La Piazza is a great place to enjoy such food especially at lunch. You might think La Piazza, judging by the name, is an Italian but it is only that after 5 pm. During lunch hours this is a place where only one dish of pasta that changes once a week is served and mainly as the veggie option. A reason to deduct point I am afraid. The other dishes served at lunch can mainly be referred to as Swedish homemade style cuisine with heavy cream qualifying them in my book as comfort food. It is simple, tasty, elegant and honest cooking with a modern touch on somewhat classy and recognizable dishes at a decent price. The result is served by a friendly and attending staff at a modern, warm and friendly thus relaxing dining area. Considering these facts it is almost as relaxing as the Sunday dinner or a nicer lunch at your parents or at the in laws but then naturally without the mothers-in-law. Other things to notice and admire at La Piazza: complementary hot cream based tomato sauce on a freezing day. Or and especially considering the fact I do not like liquorice the ever so yummy and subtle liquorice Panna cotta! Or the individual bread and butter basket! At this level of care and love showed to the costumers who cares if the soup was a tad too thick; La Piazza would have easily snatched a 4 star rating if they did act a little more Italian as their name suggests!

In my opinion Alfredo's Pasta is best described by the expression "Hit-and-miss"! I believe the reason behind it is the fact that Alfredo's Pasta is a little too lazy, indecisive and undedicated to be either a good food counter or a good deli. This is one of them palaces most likely run on the principal "if it is not broken don't bother to fix it"! Sadly this is the general applied strategy in use here in Sweden, and the reason behind it is a simple one: costumer unawareness. Generally speaking Swedes are neither well informed nor well-travelled in cuisines or culinary matters making them not selective nor demanding. Unfortunately these facts are a clear signal to the restaurant owners that the location is much more important than the quality of food served. In other words returning costumers regardless of the existing terms, conditions or qualities are what make chefs and restaurants lazy and undedicated! Now back to Alfredo's Pasta and its list of hits; varieties of home made fresh pastas, some however limited lovely authentic Italian cold cuts, cheeses and sweets. They do also offer decent pizza slices but the result can be pretty uneven. List of misses; no sandwiches (hot or cold) made with the house's lovely cheeses or cold cuts. In fact no sandwiches at all which then makes it a deli counter more than a deli. The lovely fresh home made pastas are used to make dishes sold and offered on the spot and these dishes are what mark the place as "not even a good food counter". I like salt, I like it so much I have or always ask for a salt shaker or cellar on the table but please pretty please Alfredo's LAY OFF the shaker please!! Every pasta dish or sauce is way too salty. Why unevenly less or more decent pizzas you might ask and the reason is that pizzas are not made on order! What they do here is to make a large pie and then on order reheat a slice of it. Obviously the quality of the slice varies depending on how long it is been out of the oven before going back to be reheated. Again nothing wrong with the ingredients nor the toppings and their high qualities it is the execution that brings this place down! Still the only way to go with at Alfredo's is the pizza slices as they not as salty as the pastas!

I didn't know about the lunch special (salad/sandwich + tea/coffee/juice for 69 kronas), so I ordered just the Provencale salad with pasta (65 kronas). This was a plate of slices of Brie cheese and chicken atop a handful of mixed greens and pasta. I asked for the dressing (red pesto - which tasted more or less like a sweeter tomato sauce) on the side. It also came with a side of focaccia (?) bread - this was the best part of the meal tbh. The bread was warm and just crispy enough with a soft and fluffy inside. It paired well with the pesto rosso.

We are not yet invaded by the big Pan chains although there are 2 or 3 Pizza Huts around in the big 3: Stockholm, Gotenborg or Malmö. However in the small town of Lund you can get pretty close to a good Pan by ordering from Portofino. What is good here, the price, the toppings and the quality of ingredients. Their Pans are deliciously thick and pretty authentic to the real deal. It's also a plus in my book being able to order different sizes, although I only order the largest Pan. There is something special about a cold pizza in the morning as breakfast don't you agree!? They do however make even good thin Italian style pizzas as well but that is not why I come/order from here. Some of the houses Pans, the combinations, are not my cup of tea but the New Mexico is delish. However you can choose to make your own pizzas by adding any 3,4 or 5 toppings you in the mood for and that is awesome! The delivery option is a great one and these guys are pretty fast. Even though 1 hour is what they ask for I have never waited for more than 40 minutes for my pizza to arrive.

Not the worst I had, but you get the point. Friendly staff though!
