Even more tacky random Mexican stuff lined the walls, ceilings and wherever else it could be nailed to and the sounds of screaming kids welcomed us in. We didn't have a booking but got a table without a hassle, but I could see it being very busy in here during peak holiday times. We ordered a margarita sampler each, which was four different flavours of margarita in small glasses of (Lemon, Strawberry, Pine Lime and Mango). They were all very quite and didn't taste like there was much alcohol in them at all. After our recent travels around America the sight of queso on a menu resulted in that being quickly ordered. It had a lot more beans in it than anything else and not a lot of cheese, but it was quite nice and the chips that came with it were tasty. For main I ordered a soft taco combo plate, which were okay but nothing special. Someone else at our table ordered the fajitas which was quite a large dish and was rather tasty. I probably would not return to Panhandle, but if you're in the mood for what is probably the only (Tex) Mexican on Philip Island it's worth stopping in to.

It had chips and salsa which was what I needed, since I was somewhat tired of eating beef. Now that being said. This is the cheesiest Mexican food place on planet earth. If you could buy a cheap souvenir the owners have bought it and it now sits on their walls. There were mexican hats, texas license plates, cowboy pictures and about everything else possible. Wow... The service was actually good. Although we were the only people in the place, not a good sign at 6pm.

PJ's Mexican Kitchen - A big main meal. A bit of everything, therefore a safe choice. Rice, taquito, frijoles, hard beef Taco, nachos and a beef Burrito.

Pj's is located off to the left of Maroondah Highway before you hit Eastlink and there is some parking out the front of the restaurant. With both indoor and outdoor seating available, Pj's was packed Saturday night but we managed to snag a table at the back. The servers seemed a little flustered as there were quite a few larger parties ordering and we were repeatedly asked if we would like to order when we already had but hey I'd rather be asked than left there hungry. A complimentary teeny tiny bowl of corn chips kicked off our night and we ordered a strawberry milkshake and a glass of sangria to quench our thirst during the wait for food. Fish taco- squeeze the lemon onto the crispy fish and we have a winner. Beef taco-best taco out of the 3 as it was juicy and the beef was very tender. Chicken taco- a bit dry but I drenched it with chilli sauce yum! Combination special enchilada -Spinach and potato mixed Ice cream nacho - dusted with cinnamon sugar, the vanilla ice-cream was drizzled with honey and matched with a side of tia maria. This wasn't quite what I expected, it was more bland as I imagined that the "nachos" would be more like cinnamon toast crunch pieces. We did finish the whole thing but it got a bit too sweet towards the end. I'm glad we made an emergency food stop and stopped here as I enjoyed it. I like how you can choose a soft tortilla or hard taco shell and although not exactly like the street tacos in Mexico, this was much better than some of the taco's i've had in Australia that are drenched in sour cream and overdone.

As a single business traveler I often find it difficult if not a little intimidating to go to…read morerestaurants alone resulting in many nights of room service and two minute noodles. But after visiting Amor Mexico on a particularly lonely night, I am very happy to report that the warm and welcoming staff (not to mention the yummy food and cosy atmosphere) prompted a return visit a week later. And although the staff were different, the way they made me feel genuinely welcome and better still, appreciated for my choice to dine with them, was exactly the same as the first time. The restaurant was quite busy the first night and apart from the volume of the two large tables celebrating birthdays (they weren't that loud - I'm just a grumpy old man!) the service was equally as wonderful as that of the second occasion when there were only 4 or 5 tables of two dining. I ordered different drinks and meals each time and everything was delicious and reasonably generous in size adding good value for money to the list of positives of this place. If you or you and your friends/family are ever in Forest Hill - or within 20kms of Forest Hill - and feel like some yummy Mexican and great hospitality, drop in to Amor Mexico. PS. I talked with the owner on my second visit and was informed it has been a Mexican restaurant for 30 years and hasn't changed hands on the last 15 - which I guess is testimony to my very positive review.

I have been going to this place for many years - both in its current location and the previous one in Dandenong. It may have the odd off night but it's usually great!. We usually go through the week because a Friday or Saturday night are crazy busy. Meals are well prepared and generous in quantity, alcohol and food prices are both decent - you just need to ask if you want spicy is all. Best Mexican on this side of town for sure.

I was a little disappointed. I'm not sure if its because i've gotten older and my expectations have increased or if it has gone downhill. I think its a little of both. This place has the usual tacos, fajitas, enchiladas, nachos and burritos. It is definitely more of a family restaurant than a dining experience. I ordered the quesadilla without cheese or sour cream (as i'm vegan). The meal was fairly bland and seemed very soggy. I'm not sure if it was microwaved or not. Considering i had no cheese or sour cream, i would have thought i'd have gotten a good serving of guacamole, but i barely got any. Considering i was charged the same price i thought i should have got some extra guac. The margaritas were stock standard mexican frozen margaritas. Again these were pretty disappointing and not sure that there was any tequila in them. However that said, they were very cheap $5.50. Overall, this place is probably more suited to families on a budget who want to go out for a meal. The food wasn't terrible, but definitely not worth the $19 i paid for my quesadilla. Think i'll

Fish tacos are just fish fingers, everything is served with pale looking beans and bright orange rice. The service is shocking too, had to wait for a whole table of 12 to get their mains even though we ordered first because we ordered an entré? Waitresses rude and food way to overpriced. There are much better places to eat in Aspendale so save your pennies and go anywhere else.

I have to preface this review by stating that I was born and raised in the US, in Phoenix Arizona,…read morewhich is on the border of Sonora Mexico. Phoenix has an abundance of amazing Mexican restaurants, so my standards are very high when it comes to Mexican food...and sadly Nachos fails to meet those standards, as far as the food is concerned. We had the nachos for an entree, I had the fish tacos and my wife had the taco combo. Unfortunately all I can give a pass to was the rice that accompanied our mains. The rice was well prepared, tasty and authentic in flavour. I won't pile on regarding the rest, as none of it was bad per se, it just wasn't real Mexican food. I do compliment them on their variety of Mexican beer and Tequila. Do yourself a favour and pass on the Corona, only penche turistas drink Corona. Grab yourself a Pacifico, a Tecate, or better yet a Negra Modelo. If you haven't experienced authentic Mexican food before, then there's no reason you won't like Nachos Cantina. The food, atmosphere and service are all good. But if you've had real Mexican you may want to skip this place, as it will leave you wanting.
