They have a great area for kids with several types of toys and a smaller table for them. We've never taken advantage of the service but they also have iPad's available for kids with educational programs! Lastly, the librarians are so helpful and kind!!! I never feel stupid when asking questions! Lately, I stopped in because our printer wasn't working and they helped explain how to print photos from the PC's they have available. I did that for a nominal fee and was VERY impressed by the quality! I just cannot say enough good things about this little library! HINT: Just be prepared for the kids wanting to check out the church playground, which is essentially in the library's backyard. :-)

What a pleasure to move to Lynchburg from the country and have access to this vast (in comparison)…read morelibrary. The resources are extensive and well arranged but the staff leaves much to be desired. Some of the staff seemed to act as if I were disturbing their relaxation by asking to check out a book. Approaching the desk they give you this fisheye "What are you up to?" look. Maybe they could work on that in the staff meeting. The kids section is very large.

Super clean, beautiful library that was built 5 years ago…read more It has 4 floors with different sections labeled for the noise level (quiet, deep quiet, etc.) Plenty of seating and computers inside. With lots of areas also for working in groups. If it is a nice day and you want some sun there is rooftop access and plenty of seats outside. The library even has a small museum on the bottom floor that is easy to miss if you did not know it was there. The front desk, customer service employees are very helpful with any questions you may have. There is a Starbucks, a pizza hut, and other food vendors so if you have to study all day you do not have to go far to fuel up. One real neat feature that this library has is the book storage and retrieval system. You simply choose the book on the computer screen and a machine arm will find it and deliver it to you out of the thousands of books storaged there.

The Appomattox Court House NHP is a fraud! Ok here me out. I am somewhat of a history nerd but…read morethink broad strokes not necessarily on a micro level. Anyway, when I arrived, I went into the visitor's center like one always should when visiting a National Park. One of the Park Rangers started telling me about the property. "Currently you are standing in the Appomattox Court House......absolutely nothing happened in here! The surrender was just a football field's length away at the McLean House." What!? Why is it named after the courthouse then? Anyway, all jokes aside the place is great. As stated, the visitor's center is located inside the old courthouse and has the standard gift shop, museum, and movie theatre. Outside there are several buildings that include a bookstore, a Tavern, The Mclean House and several others. The Mclean House was actually torn down at one point and then rebuilt. The house is set up to look like it did then when Lee surrendered to Grant. While the Mclean house is the main attraction to the park, there are plenty of battlefields, markers and hiking trails around to explore. So why only 4 stars, well name it the Mclean House National Historic Park and I will give it another star.

Parking is plentiful and easy to access. When you get to the settlement where the houses are, you encounter beautifully preserved homes that are set up as they would have been during the war. Unlike other battlefields that feel oppressive with death, Appomattox feels like hope for me. Maybe it's my imagination -especially because people died here too, but the way the two generals conducted themselves went a long way in restoring peace. It's a beautiful place to spend an afternoon.

Similar layout concept as Monticello but on a smaller scale. It is a beautiful area and the house is very interesting. The grounds around the house have not been maintained well which is unfortunate. Nice piece of property in the Forest area of VA, this was Jefferson's summer home. Considering it is a bit of a task to get to in 2015, it must have really sucked to make the trek on horseback way back in the day. Worth a visit if in the area to at least get a glimpse into how they lived 200 years ago - right down to the functional outhouses.
