Sadly this place was very underwhelming. The photos look amazing but the food lacks. Yelp typically doesn't steer me wrong, but there is the rare occasion that it does and this "5 star" joint definitely disappoints. How they have 5 stars is beyond me. Came for lunch for my friends birthday on a Wednesday afternoon. Mezcal Jamaica margaritas were ok. My friends ordered the steak sandwiches and I ordered the steak and eggs. My steak was overcooked so I had to send it back and by the time I got my other steak I was done with my eggs and potato's and I was over it. I ate half which was very tough to chew. The steak itself tasted like lime. I make chimichurri and this chimichurri wasn't it. $27 wasted in my opinion. The steak sandwiches were dry and bland. The server encouraged the steak sandwiches saying there were really good and they were really disappointing. We ordered the churro dessert and they came back saying they had no ice cream. We had the churros and they were pretty bland and I wasn't a fan of the dulce de leche that accompanied it. I will say the server Ruby was great. The place is cute but some AC on a hot summer afternoon wouldn't hurt. Idk but when I go out to eat I want to eat GOOD FOOD and this place definitely missed the mark. Went to this restaurant yesterday for the first time for brunch. It's a small restaurant with great service and food. My son lives in Forest Park and recommended this restaurant. My husband ordered the steak chilequiles. It looked amazing. I snagged a taste and the steak was tender and grilled to a perfect medium rare. I opted for the egg burrito served with roasted potatoes and a salad. The burrito was filing and very good. I recommend making reservations because it is a small restaurant. They have maybe a dozen tables and also a counter to sit at. I would definitely go back to dine here again. read more

The first thing that I noticed about Amerikas was the super lively and bright ambiance. I went I on a Saturday night with my wife, so I wasn't surprised by all of the people dining and having a good time, and as I ate my dinner I definitely learned why. The decor is bright and fun. The walls are lined by mutuals, mostly yellow, with big splashes of color. I liked how then kept the lights on to keep the atmosphere bright and fun. The food was delicious too. My wife and ordered the pulpo, barbacoa, tacos (shrimp and pork shoulder), tostada de pescado, ceviche and the dragon fruit cheesecake for dessert. I enjoyed all of the dishes, my favorites were the barbacoa and the pulpo. The barbacoa was super flavorful and fell right off the bone, no knife was need. The pulpo was cooked to perfection and was tender and delicious. The risk with pulpo is that it can be chewy and tough, definitely not the case here. One note, the tostada for the tostada de pescado seem a bit too dry, but the flavor of fresh seafood made up for it. If you want a fun show with your food, order the ceviche, it comes out with a cool smoke effect. Overall, the service was fast and friendly, and the overall experience at the restaurant was enjoyable. While they don't have a parking lot, street parking is cheap (at least compared to Chicago) and plentiful. Amerikas is a must visit in Oak Park. read more

If you're looking for a modest happy hour and tapas style Latin food, Amerikas is for you! Happy Hour is from 3-6PM, and includes beer and margaritas only. I was a little disappointed that they only had lime and hibiscus flavors for margaritas, but I was grateful I could try a new margarita flavor. Frozen margarita lovers will need to accept their drink on the rocks here. The star of the show wasn't the drinks at all but the food. While I would have appreciated the ability to choose a side, like rice or beans, the chicken taquitos were absolutely delectable; they were hot, crispy, and bursting with flavor. The plate came with 4 well stuffed taquitos and a lively yet spicy verde sauce. I removed the cabbage and crème fraiche and wished the plate didn't have to end. This is a great spot to grab food that don't sit heavy on your stomach (think Seasons 52). It's casual yet sophisticated, a bit over-priced and limited in menu options, but well worth it if you have more plans to fill your day or evening. read more

Super fun! I don't know why I have never been here before, but I made up for it by visiting twice this weekend: lunch yesterday and breakfast bright and early at 9 AM today! I had the vegetarian enchiladas for both meals, as my diet is somewhat limited. Loved them! My dates had the chicken sandwich, breakfast burrito, and the egg-salsa dish that I can't recall the name of. Everyone loved their meals. Fresh-squeezed orange juice was delicious. Great service, very attentive. I wish that I could have ordered a side of something, like rice or beans, as I have a pretty hearty appetite, but I didn't see that option. I should have asked as I was still a bit hungry. My dates ate churros for dessert and said they were delicious. Full bar. Upscale vibe. Gorgeous art. It's a modern take on Mexican food and I love everything about it. Great for a date night or friend dinner. Dishes are meant to be served as a tapas style so expect to order a few. We started out with the taquitos which I highly recommend. 4 come on the plate. We ordered fish tacos which are ala cart. The fish was battered and fried, and wrapped in 2 fresh corn tortillas. Fabulous lunch on a Monday early afternoon! Lots of seating indoor and outdoors, I loved the decor too. Service was sweet, friendly and prompt. We got the chilaquiles, tostadas and Huevos rancheros. I also got a drip coffee which was nice and hot, a little bit naturally sweet. Our meals were ample, flavorful and well presented. We all agreed my toastadas were the prettiest. My bf and I wanted to try something new and ventured outside of the city - we were eager for good food at Amerikas but wasn't prepared to walk away feeling like we just experienced one of the best meals we've ever had in the whole Chicago/surburb area. Couldn't stop talking about it afterwards! We specifically came for Valentine's Day and they had a special menu for that night. They started us off with an amuse-bouche which was already such a tasty start the meal. Lobster ceviche - best ceviche I've ever had. First, the presentation was beautiful. Second, the passion fruit and foam on top just added so much freshness and texture. The plump pieces of lobster were accompanied by a well-rounded burst of flavors in every bite. Tlayuda - this was so fun to eat/share. Breaking it up piece by piece throughout the course of our meal over drinks and a good conservation couldn't be beat. Mussels - I'm a fan of both coconut and lemongrass so this was another winner. The mussels were plump and incredibly tender. It came with garlic toast which was dangerously addicting, perfect for dipping into the sauce. Not only were we impressed with the food, but service went smoothly. After many failed attempts (on our part), we finally got in here for dinner. We chose it for a post-piano-recital meal and took a group of 6. I loved that the menu was small, but not suffering from real choices. We got a ton of food and loved just about everything we ordered! The service was stellar and they accommodated every "ask" for things left off or on the side. We had the pork loin, the lamb shank, the acorn squash, the pear and arugula, the roast chicken and the bass as mains and then just about everyone at the table also had a taco of either barbacoa pork or shrimp (minus the chorizo). Greetings Foodzies, today I have a double review for you. We'll start with breakfast; Amerikas restaurant (Nuevo Latino Cuisine) at 734 w Lake St. in Oak Park. It was a nice quiet spot with table seating and a large bar with seating. The staff was very friendly and polite. I was surprised that the music was alternative instead of traditional Mexican music. Glenda started off with a Mexican style hot chocolate (hot chocolate with cinnamon) it had a nice smooth chocolate flavor. We had Huevos Con Chorizo (Mexican chorizo, pico de gallo, queso Oaxaca, tortillas and beans). It had a array of flavors and when you mixed it together was very good. Then a breakfast burrito, (scrambled eggs, bacon, guacamole, queso chinuahua, roasted potatoes) it was kind of bland but when you added the sauce it was delicious. I had the Skillet Al Pastor (pork shoulder, chayotes, mushrooms, cabbage, pineapple, rice) the pork was unevenly done, some pieces were perfect and others were tough. The flavor was tasty with the mix of savory and sweet. We ended with churros, you could tell they weren't fresh and they were dry in the middle. The dipping sauce was thin and really only gave moisture to the churros. They gave us a sample of their tortilla soup. That was very good. They have their own Mezcal which we didn't like, it was harsh and had a medicinal taste. I give them 3 stars read more

I've visited Amerikas a few times I love their brunch options and decided to try their dinner menu. Dinner is served everyday except Mondays. We decided to try the barbacoa, it was so delicious and falling off the bone! We also had the Coliflor which is one of their vegetarian options. I'm not vegetarian but truly did enjoy it! They have several vegetarian options. Everything was seasoned to perfection. They also have a wide range of cocktails, as well as some mocktail options which were delicious. I recommend the blood orange pisco (alcoholic) and the passion fruit mocktail (non-alcoholic). Also you can't leave without having the dragon fruit cheesecake! read more

This is a very nice place. I will say the inside can get pretty hot, though. I didn't feel much air conditioning, so I was fanning myself with my menu, lol. They serve tapas-style, but you definitely get plenty to share. The food is very flavorful and definitely a pleasant experience. The Carne Asada... AMAZINGLY FLAVORFUL. I came to a party that had tacos and churros (I hope I spelled that right... maybe I didn't, lol). Everyone enjoyed their meals and their drinks. They have artwork for sale that is hanging on the walls that are vibrant in color and very beautiful works. The staff is very kind and helpful. What we ordered: Crab Cake - lump crab, onions, poblano peppers, cilantro, papaya and cucumber relish, sriracha aioli. We really enjoyed this place! We've been exploring Oak Park more lately and happened upon this spot for brunch. Ambiance: I wish I had taken pics of the inside but we really appreciated the splash of colors and greenery throughout. The plants were well maintained too which gave us the signal that this is a restaurant that cares about ensuring it's presentable, clean, and welcoming. Service: everything about our service was great. Our server was hospitable, knowledgeable about food options and helping us decide while also not being pushy/giving us the space and patience to ultimately make our own decision. Our food came out quickly (around 10ish minutes I'd say) and our beverages were always kept full. Food: we LOVED just about every part of our meal. The chicken and churro with the manchego gravy was perfect - a really nice savory and spiced (not spicy) taste that complimented the moist fried chicken breast well. Adding that churro underneath made it a really great combo of seeet and savory. The breakfast burrito with the sauce (I forget what the name of the sauce was but it comes with it) was DELICIOUS as well - tortilla was perfect, not hard, and the eggs and bacon were so delectable and fluffy on the inside. The arugula salad on both dishes was a nice touch too. We had to order the French toast after seeing pictures of it, but to be honest, it was okay. The French toast itself was a bit hard towards the middle and the taste wasn't bad at all, just...okay. The fruits were fresh though. That experience, plus the roasted potatoes as sides to our dishes being inconsistent (some were harder/undercooked than others), prevented me from giving 5 stars but I would still absolutely recommend this place based on the other dishes and excellent service and would come back again. I can't remember the name of the sandwiches but our server kept recommending them and we didn't listen until last- but they were the best thing on the menu. Everything was good, the staff was friendly, and it wasn't crowded. Price point was reasonable for Chicago area. This place is really cute and the service was kind and attentive. I came here for a brunch and got the frittata and OJ. The orange juice was freshly squeezed and really good! I enjoyed the frittata, i was pleasantly surprised by it. It was so flavorful and filled with many veggies. It felt light but slightly greasy. The potato's it came with where good, they have a crispy exterior and potatoy inside. I even enjoyed the little arugula salad it came with. Would Def recommend. We ordered the French toast, and I was underwhelming. I liked that it was thick toast and the syrup and fruits it came with were really good. Enjoyed a margarita too (which I ordered UP but received on the rocks without the staff noticing) Service was shoddy in terms of timing and attentiveness. We enjoyed this meal! We ran in for tacos and cocktails, and I think for a date night with margaritas, this dinner landed well and we were able to snag some sidewalk seating for chow. My wife and I tried the taquitos, al pastor tacos, surf & turf tacos, and the pork shoulder tacos. Nothing out of this world, but very solid cuisine.
