Most people are not aware that this American Legion Meeting Hall is the original structure that was damaged in the New Year's Flood of 1934 in which so many people lost their lives. That one-thousand-year flood, made famous in a song by Woody Guthrie, killed a dozen people who had sought refuge in this very structure. The American Legion has long been a community service organization providing support for this community. The hall is currently available for rental and meetings are held the first Wednesday of the month at 7:30 pm. Amazing to think of this building being moved from the site of the worst destruction of the flood and being preserved here. read more
