Absolutely fantastic museum, I wish I could have brought my grandpa with me, he would have loved this (he served on a mine planter in the Atlantic in WWII). I went on Memorial Day, and was surprised it wasn't busier. You can ride in a tank! And I'm sad I missed that for sure. I ran in an hour before they closed, or I'd have spent more time inside. Very moving exhibits throughout, it makes you think. read more

Really could (should?) be called war musuem. Here you will find a wealth of information and dozens of tanks and a handful of planes all wartime related. There's even a handful that are one of a kind and only displayed here. There's also a couple videos/presentations available to watch. So there's ample information in what is a relatively small space. There are staff milling around throught the musuem, so if you have questions you won't have to go far. I think during the summer they even offer rides in tanks for an added fee. The musuem takes about 1.5 hours to complete and you can save a couple bucks if you buy your ticket online, and its also good for any non-special event day, so you don't even have to use it that day. The driveway is also about 3/4 of a mile long, so its pretty far off the road. Overall it was as fun way to spend a couple hours inside on a raw rainy early spring day. read more

This is a fantastic place for WWII armor buffs. They also have Cold War vehicles, some planes, and much more. You can also catch a ride on an M36 Jackson, M4 Sherman, or M24 Chaffee and if you have some extra cash - learn how to drive the M4 or M24! read more

Do you like history? Do you like tanks? Then this place is for you! Absolutely well worth the visit. You will learn so much! Lots to see, definitely leave yourself 2-3 hours to get through it all and read the facts. Some of the vehicles are the one ones on display in the US or the world! read more

Such an incredible collection of military vehicles primarily from World War 1 and World War 2. Several of their vehicles are the only one of their kind on display in the whole country. There was also a fascinating virtual reality experience featuring a movie about a Holocaust survivor. There are multiple docents walking around if you have questions. On special days, you can attend war re-enactments and they also occasionally offer opportunities to ride some of the vehicles (for a price). This museum is absolutely worth a visit. read more

All the years I've been in Massachusetts I never knew about this place until about a year ago. Wow did I miss out! If you wanna think about putting in perspective, imagine our own piece of this Smithsonian. We went there for a reenactment of Okinawa(started at 1pm). Absolutely so fun to be able to see this. Going through the different museums... 1) Antique car, 2a) airplane, 2b) Indy and box cars 3) military history. The collection of vehicles is better than the Patton Museum at Fort Knox. We got there at 830 am for the reenactment. Ample parking. Plenty of time to hit the museums before the main event. Feel free to bring a cooler/sandwiches/chairs and leave in your vehicle. The parking area is extremely close to the exhibition field(see pic of site map). You won't have to carry anything around. Of course, sunscreen/repellent may be needed. Definitely have to go back and spend more time. I was with friends so I would've spent more time at the museums, but certainly will have to go back for a do over. read more

The American Heritage Museum is a wonderful collection of vehicles from, primarily, World War I and II. What makes it unique is that it is a very interactive museum. Also the docents are very engaging and knowledgeable. Good for kids 6 and over to senior citizens. We were there for 2 hours and everyone wants to go back! We are not a military family and we all liked it. read more

Wow, what a hidden gem! I brought my 10-year-old grandson because he loves tanks, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it too. The scale of this place is incredible--they have everything from planes and Scud missiles to jeeps and tanks. The setup is highly immersive, using videos in the initial rooms to set the stage before you enter the massive main viewing area. The staff is amazing, super knowledgeable, and always ready to answer questions. A perfect place to beat the heat this summer! read more

Amazing museum in the most surprising location. This is a must-stop for any military buff, and those who have an appreciation for history would enjoy the visit too. Visited on a weekday afternoon with both seniors and young children in town - both ages loved it. There is a lot to absorb here, and I echo previous reviews that the staff is incredibly friendly and informative. The museum is set up so that you enter a series of theaters to prep you before you enter the exhibit space. When you see everything, it really pops the eye. I am eager to visit again and attend their special events. The drive to get there is along some backroads, and you may feel like you are going to the middle of nowhere, but rest assured, when you finally arrive, you'll find an enjoyable experience waiting for you. read more

This might be the very best war and armored vehicles museum I've ever been to. We travelled from Denver specifically to visit this attraction and it did not disappoint. The building itself is huge, beautiful and well kept. It's in a scenic area of New England and the drive in and out was beautiful. The staff were personable, polite and engaging. Most are volunteers and veterans of the armed forces. The displays with the vehicles are well thought through and very visually pleasing. They even have a Tiger Tank and T-34 square off in a fun display. They imported actual cells from the Hanoi Hilton you can your and fit in. If you are a US wars history buff, this museum is an absolute must see. I was impressed from the moment I walked in until the second I left. read more

We happened upon this museum by accident. We came into Hudson MA to go to a local brewery and got there early. I looked up things to do in Hudson MA and the American Heritage Museum came up. It looked really cool but I was a bit reluctant. I was afraid that the photos, although awesome, might just show the best and leave nothing more. I was pleasantly surprised with the museum. It is without a doubt the best museum I have been too. It is truly a hidden gem, a must see! Don't miss this experience. Impressive, emotional, spectacular, and educational! Absolute treasure of a collection of tanks, trucks, planes, and amphibious vehicles that have been used in the too-many wars presented exceptionally well at this hidden gem of a museum. Some items are the only remaining of their kind in the US, and sometimes in the world. Hopefully, such a museum helps us learn the mistakes of history that lead to conflict, foregin or domestic - so we may do all we can to prevent such atrocities abroad or on our own home soil. Prejudices, fear, greed, and the desire for power all converged into conflicts that put these tanks and guns into action. The stories are well told here, from earliest war to a gut-wrenching immersion into the Hanoi Hilton, to 9/11 and Gulf Wars. Video presentations, detailed timelines, evemt highlights, veteran tour guides, all organized in an impressive warehouse awaiting you at the end of a long driveway to wartime past. read more

This is a really incredible collection of mostly military equipment. The intro video is a bit long, but the WWI and WWII rooms are incredibly well-designed and have strong narratives. The main hangar area is less clearly curated (though the narrative is there if you look for it, and there is a light/audio show periodically as well. The new Auschwitz rail car is a very powerful addition, and the Hanoi Hilton exhibit is transformational--honestly one of the best installations I've ever seen in a history museum. The staff is mostly volunteer, and they were nice enough. Mostly veterans, as well. This museum is a shockingly underutilized resource--I hope its attendance goes up, as it deserves to be a stop for visitors of the Boston area. read more

We learned so much, but what I found to be special was that we left feeling so connected to our family history, and American heritage. This is a special place, and well worth a visit. Fantastic museum! The tank collection is great, they offer many little movie clips of moments from certain wars... One story about a female fighter pilot who has to make the tough decision to take down a civilian plane during 9/11 was very emotional to watch and hear what their mission was that day... but made me damn proud to be an American. There was a great amount of displays of wonderful memorabilia honoring fallen soldiers and the story behind those individuals were really touching too. Randomly met a Vietnam vet who was visiting the museum with his vet buddies, who served in Vietnam war around the same time my father would have been there. It was great to hear the stories he had about his time there and how it brought back memories of my dad saying those same things. This is definitely a must visit for the entire family. read more

This is one of the best history museums I've ever seen we really had a good time we went there as to be at a book signing called The Rifle done by Andy Biggio out of Boston. I took a couple of veterans with me or able to walk around and look at the exhibits and see the things that the tags they had written then or the mechanical things they had thrown just absolute step back in time to World War II and the Vietnam war which was the 2 veterans I took with me. I feel that anyone is able to get a trip out there to look at this museum can really step back in time and learn more but I history there than even in a book. I believe this would definitely be a good museum trip for many school children to take as well who don't even know what World War II and Vietnam and Afghanistan things are even about they weren't even born yet. read more

I visited the American Heritage Museum in Hudson, MA., yesterday. Probably the best personal collection of World War II armored vehicles in the United States. They even have flyable aircraft and rare automobiles. They offer tank driving experiences for those willing to pay. I'm not easily impressed (WWII nerd) but this place blew me away. They painstakingly reassembled (brick by brick) some of the actual prison cells from the Hoa Lo' "Hanoi Hilton" and have the front entrance. Entering the doors and seeing portions of the actual prison, manacles and stocks made this exhibition painfully come to life. Very emotional. Two items on display were especially unique and significant to World War II. Lt. Col. John "Killer" Kane's Medal of Honor was displayed. He led the ill-fated but successful Ploiesti raid. Fifty-three B-24 aircraft were shot down and 500 aircrew lost. Additionally on display was an A-2 leather flying jacket of an aircrewman of the Doolittle raid on Tokyo. He was captured by the Japanese and endured 40 months as a prisoner of war. These displays were very impactful since I'm retired USAF. If I lived closer to the museum, I would volunteer my time. Highly recommend a visit to anyone who is interested in military history and the sacrifices made by our warfighters. Was great to see so many grammar school and high school kids learning these valuable life lessons. read more

Went here on Memorial Day 2023 to honor the men and women who served. This is a first for its kind for Middlesex County. A full-fledged museum with real life dioramas of military equipment and vehicles used during most of 20th Century to present years. It should have been a five star. I gave a four star for its surreal life replication, but lacked the simulating feel like holograms, 3-d, special effects, and animatronics that are displayed at Boston Tea Party Museum, and Mashantucket Pequot Museum. read more

I took my son and his friends. We visited all the exhibits, all very impressive. Outside there is a tank to climb in and around. It was an event weekend so we walked the field talking with the different collectors about their displays. They were eager for the boys to see things up close and share stories of how things might have been on the battle field. (Not to forget the American Bald Eagles nesting in the trees around the field which made the whole day feel surreal!) Inside the staff and volunteers were amazing, very kind and knowledgeable. The indoor tank and 9/11 exhibits were an experience. It was a guided tour but you could go at your own pace. The staging was incredible. You leave feeling a little humbled and very grateful to say the least. read more

What a treasure to have this immersive museum in New England! I had just learned of the AHM's existence a few weeks ago, so I brought my oldest son (a 4th grader) to check it out, as he's recently become interested in WWII history and tanks in particular. This museum's immersive collection and "hands-on" interactivity truly takes this museum to the next level! More than just tanks, this museum has it all - tanks, half-tracks, trucks, cars, canons, uniforms... you name it, they probably have it! It's very clear from the moment you step into this building that people who curate this museum not only care about the artifacts and their presentation, but also the feeling, the emotion, the memories, and the lives of those who used these vehicles... their stories are being told here, as well. Many museums will present artifacts to you only to be seen from a distance or from behind glass or ropes. But here, you feel as though you're "in the moment" with them all, surrounded by volunteers answering your questions, surrounded by staging and visuals depicting them in use, and perhaps most importantly... you can reach out and TOUCH these tanks and planes yourself! Wait, I said "touch." Perhaps you need more than that... how about crawling inside a tank and taking a ride-along? Still need even more interactivity? Ok then, how about taking a tank for a test drive outside the museum, on the property? Well... you can (with some instruction and disclaimers, of course)! Not only is the entire presentation incredible, but the staff is helpful and personable. Many of the curators and staff are military veterans with their own unique stories and perspectives. With my son, they gave him a Scavenger Hunt sheet to fill out (to get a prize upon completion), and he took it to heart... traversing the vast museum multiple times, seeking clues, asking for assistance only when needed... and he came away from it all knowing the names of most of the tanks on the property, important WWII figures such as Lt. Col Dolittle and his squadron of B-25s that helped turn the tide (and the morale) of the war; how a particular L-4 Grasshopper and its pilot Major Charles Carpenter re-invented aviation warfare by strapping (for the first time) missiles in the form of bazookas under its wings and taking out multiple German tanks and trucks during his scouting flights... That L-4, by the way, exists in this museum! My son now thinks the coolest thing in the museum, in fact, is that L-4 known as "Rosie the Rocketer." Everything in the museum is real, has been used, or seen action. Some tanks and planes still bear the scars of war in the form of bullet holes. Even their WWI trench is as authentic as possible, right down to. The only reproduction (it's real, it's just wasn't Hitler's) is his Mercedes. Even the reproduction of the Western Front in WWI is made up of items that survived the battlefront. We left this museum feeling as though we had just relived a part of American battle history ourselves. It was an honor and a privilege to visit this museum, and I look forward to our return. read more
