ABHS was a very difficult treatment center to go through, and it had a lot of issues. I give it 2 stars because this was the first program i had graduated from (out of 8 at the time) and I stayed clean for a year after - by far my longest clean time! Because of this, I believe that ABHS must have helped in some way, or must have been what I needed at the time. I had to quarantine for my first week, which was very hard - especially since I had just come from detox and was very bored, lonely, and tired of sitting around all day. The program and atmosphere was very intense. It was not a homey environment by any means, and there was generally 6 people to a room in metal bunk beds. You had a locker to keep your things in, and there was a shower room, where you could shower in stalls. The program and groups were very strict. In group you had to sit with your feet flat on the floor, your back straight against the chair, and your hands on your knees. Some of the groups were very cult-like. The staff were never around and it was very hard to find someone if you needed help, and most of the staff did not seem to care about the clients at all. There was a LOT of packets and binder work that you had to complete in order to graduate. Every assignment had to be completed in a very exact manner, or you would have to redo it. At one point, staff shared my personal information with other clients after promising they would keep it private. Clients were given positions of power, and were expected to correct other clients on their wrongdoings. This could be good in theory, but it led to a power hierarchy throughout the clients, and people believing that they were above/in charge of other clients. There was not much to do/keep busy with during free time, but there was so much work to do that it's all you were doing 24/7 anyways. I was extremely depressed while in this program, and it felt more like prison than rehab. read more

My boyfriend "James" was picked up at the Tacoma Mall and driven three hours in a van to American Behavioral Health Systems (ABHS / AVHS) in the Spokane area because he needed a safe place to detox. What he experienced was not treatment -- it was a prison-like environment. He told me the majority of the people there appeared to be right out of prison or under DOC (Department of Corrections) supervision. The facility is heavily funded by DOC and the whole atmosphere felt exactly like a corrections facility, not a medical detox or rehab. During intake there were four of them. Staff conducted strip searches with the door wide open. Other residents and people were walking by and could clearly look in and see everything. One of the guys who was on DOC started arguing loudly with staff about being strip searched and said he was going to walk out. James and another person looked at each other, grabbed their things, and left. He is currently on a bus home with two other people who witnessed the same thing and also refused to stay. James needed a safe place to detox from drugs. He did not need to be treated like he had just finished a prison sentence. The open-door strip search in front of other people and the overall prison vibe made it impossible for him to stay. If you or someone you love is looking for actual medical detox and treatment in a therapeutic setting, this is not it. I would not recommend this facility for anyone seeking voluntary treatment. read more

This place is so unorganized. The games the staff play with people's meds. They can't get it right for the life of them. Some of the employees look as if they are high on something themselves. One person says one thing then another says something different. It's a joke. They cram the facility so full how does one expect to get treatment? Half the employees are just pissed off and treat the patients like crap. If they don't like there job move along. Fix your phones also. 3 phones for more than a hundred patients and you guys can't afford to fix the others that are broken. The employees treat there patients like there all criminals. Regardless if someone's a self admitted or court ordered they are there to get help not be treated like crap. Future patients beware, if you're looking for a treatment facility and want to be treated like crap, like a criminal, or not even as a human being this is your place. The staff will lie to you they will play games with your meds. He'll the staff doesn't even run the groups the other patients do. When I find out who looks over this place they will get the full detailed report. I think all the employees need to be re-evaluated, even more so the supervisors. Avoid going here at all costs. If you're serious about getting help this place isn't gonna do it. Not with out games and bs. Someone needs to actively look into this place. Something just isn't right with management. Beware you've been warned. Avoid this place there staff needs to be overhauled! read more

Extremely lock down centre and no one told me before I got here this is a DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS program. These people do not care about what you have been through in your life they do not cater to any diets your doctor on the outside recommends for you. They will take you off medications you are on and give you what they can since it's a DOC friendly facility. Many people are walking around with ankle monitors. You cannot go out to smoke when you please. You have to have a prescription for everything even an ice pack. They constantly are combing lockers to make sure you have no food and if you do have a snack of any kind even from the vending machine that is closed they will make you sing in front of everyone. You can only have coffee once a day at 5am and you may not save any coffee for the rest of your day. Lots of thieves since again pretty much everyone is from prison or jail. There is no onsite gym. They feed you full of filler food (it's delicious) with no nutritional value. You cannot get seconds if you want another tiny bowl of salad instead of a plate full of fat. They try to fatten everyone up in here so the meth heads look somewhat decent when they get out. If you're on probation and you have to come here do not cause any thing you do can land you in jail or back in prison. Go anywhere else and always make sure it's not a DOC friendly facility. No private rooms are available even for sleep walkers. read more

Everything could be improved by a complete reset. Staff professionalism and integrity should be a requirement. What I've witnessed has been far from this, right down to even HIPPA violations. ABHS- seriously, where do you hire your management? HIPPA Laws are one of the first things drilled into your head when in health care. This was not the first choice of treatment centers but this is the only one offered thru DOC. That should say it all, right there. A lot could be corrected by a reset of new staff, from top to bottom. Proper vetting of potential employees and professional training, and how about some 3rd party performing random drug tests for ALL staff, including management. That's a good start. I've never been so disappointed with a center that's supposed to be facilitating changed lives. That isn't going to happen, based on current staffing and lack of professional oversite. Its been said that one bad apple spoils the whole bunch. In this case, one good apple isn't enough to change this trainwreck of a treatment center. It's also said that if people knew better, they'd do better... ABHS, what is your excuse for the horrible way you treat your clients?? 95% of the STAFF needs to look in the mirror and realize their actions impact the clients around them. If you cannot have compassion for addicts and those trying to turn their lives around, then you are in the wrong business. Go to work somewhere your nasty, immature attitude won't cost someone their life. Shame on you, ABHS staff and directors. This entire treatment organization needs to be investigated and on national media, You need to be exposed for the damage your unprofessionalism causes. read more

what a JOKE! Please do NOT waste your time, energy and money! Go to a facility that cares about your health and recovery. There are so many other POSITIVE places to get help in WA State. The staff is not qualified for this type of business, and they make a point of making your time there miserable. read more

So I get to the treatment center after a 4.5 hour drive to get there. Only to be notified by staff at that point that there was nowhere that I could park my car where it would not get towed. And proceeded to tell me they could not refer me because it's a liability. I was not notified on the phone when I spoke to the person and asked her what I needed to bring and what I needed to know. So I've been sitting here for an hour trying to figure out where the heck I'm supposed to park my car. The staff was extremely rude and far from helpful. I will not be wasting a month of my life in this dump! Believe the reviews! And don't waste your time at this disgrace of a facility! I guess I'm driving another 4.5 hours back. Absolute waste of time. read more

This place is horrible, being a addict I frequented trap houses that being said this place was worse to me extremely out dated and run down, cold (hot food) hot (cold food) cold showers freezing temperatures. Under staffed. No medical professionals on sight. I was there 4 days and had gotten sick they had almost none of my meds and when I left I had to go back the next day because they tried to keep what they did have. Would not recommend, they need to be shut down. 44 cozza in Spokane. read more

The WORST treatment facility ever. Basically a prison, not a program. Horribly under-staffed, leading to the population being completely out of control. Gangs, violence, theft, and the worst staff ever (especially the lady in charge who looks like an old beat up leather bag, didn't get her name). Residents getting sick and spreading it around, no masks during Covid, they aren't even trying to stop the spread of disease in here. Observed food poisoning happening to other clients. "Rehabilitation program" was watching TedTalk videos about addiction and coloring. Impossible to focus on recovery when you're dealing with 80+ out of control women fighting with each other 24/7. Loud, unsupervised, not a healing environment in any way. Most women in there came there straight from prison. When I decided to leave they held my things hostage, wouldn't let me make a phone call, and were screaming at me about how "dumb" I was. This is because when someone leaves, they look bad and they don't get paid. The staff they do have is uncaring, rude, and power-trippy. If you're so understaffed, why do you keep taking in more and more "clients"? Well, its because they are for-profit and its all about the money. The only way I achieved recovery after attending this "program" was the fear of ever having to go there again. read more

I worked as a cook here for a few months. The pay was amazing. Union was not very helpful at all felt like they just wanted to pick off of my pay check and offer little to none assistance and lack knowledge of the actual union benefits they're supposed to offer. Extremely understaffed. Kim Enos (the kitchen manager) was horribly mean and is my main reason for leaving. Lots of gossips from all of the staff on top of that. Kim would slam things around and be cussing every single morning... she loved to belittle the new staff (myself included) and micro managed every tiny detail of everything. She made me cry multiple times. I was also the only cook every morning for months and couldn't take any time off if I needed in fear of losing my job because I was the only morning cook. I was also sexually harassed and touched by a staff member (whom they did fire because I filed a complaint and asked them to check the cameras for proof of the abuse going on). The kitchen also has black mold and mice and mice droppings!! Very old and outdated. The only 2 other cooks who do work there kept the cooking areas clean and worked very hard (myself included while I was there) and I think we definitely weren't appreciated. We did a good job and cared a lot. It hurt me to see that a lot of the care team outside of the kitchen seemed very careless and would literally sit on their asses all day on their phones and would hardly ever clean or apply the proper PPE procedures required not just because of Covid but to run a supposed medical/ health facility in general. When serving breakfast the "new hot line" we had just received held too much power for the outdated outlets and kept killing the breaker so I could only use half of the hot line to keep the food hot that I was serving. Mind you I got there at 4:30am and had to serve about 70 woman by 6:15am ALL BY MYSELF. It was completely embarrassing when I discovered the new hot line wasn't working and woman were complaining about their food being cold (which made me look bad and it was completely not my fault at all). I complained to the kitchen manager and she didn't really care at all just told me to cram all that food into less pans and use less of the hotline and tell them to heat their food in the microwave. This place needs a lot of work and definitely new management. I don't think the owner is aware of how bad it is or he is and just only cares about more and more clients so he can make more and more money. Kim the kitchen manager told me that most of the woman there are from prison and encouraged treating them very poorly (which she did she was mean to everyone there for god know what reason) and she was extreme about the amount of condiments we could serve for example (only one cup of juice, one bag of chips, only one packet of mayo and mustard, or two packets of ketchup per client) and would absolutely lose her shit if the clients asked for extra condiments and things. She spoke very badly of the clients and it honestly bothered me a lot. She has the worst attitude of anyone I've ever met. I threatened to turn them into EOC, and also into ADA for the extreme poor treatment I was receiving, the conditions in which I was working in, this job was traumatic for me, I was left crying in my car on lots of my breaks and it triggered lots of my PTSD, Anxiety, and Bipolar disorder and when asked for possible reasonable accommodation I was completely ignored, discriminated against.... Blah blah blah I could go on and on for hours. Please do not work here the pay is not worth the hell they will put you through, and please if you are a clients seeking treatment go to literally any treatment facility but ABHS. This place needs torn down, rebuilt, and completely restocked with management who genuinely care about their staff and their clients. read more

I have no idea about this place. Yet. Never had a reason to even hear about it. Until now. I do know, and Not because ABHS told me, that a dear friend of mine was transported there by ambulance after repeated falls in his home caused by excessive drinking. I understand the intervention, that isn't my issue here. What is my concern is, until I found out where he was, and calling to Please confirm, nothing more, that he Is there and not wandering the streets or worse, not once did anyone return my messages and when I did finally speak with a human, I realized she was Not human after all. Very Rude and to stop calling. I do know this friend has several major issues pending that only he can take care of. The reason for that comment is I was also told there is a 5 day mandatory stay and after that, he can voluntarily stay for further help. It has been 6 days and I would guess if it's of his choice to continue his stay, he would be able to make or accept phone calls. Call to ask if this is protocol, you are told about Hypa or Hapi or hipi (HIPAA) laws that forbid sharing personal information. SINCE WHEN IS BUSINESS PROTOCOL PERSONAL INFORMATION??! After reading the one and only review from 2018 on yelp, I am now afraid for him. With all this said, and if and when I see him again, I will add another review of his experiences. I just pray they are better than my review! read more
