I had a problem with an unscrupulous AAA-affiliated auto repair shop. The problem concerned a parking ticket that was issued to my car while it was in the custody of this company. [See my review of NYC Tire and Auto Care]. I sent AAA an email describing the situation. An AAA representative contacted me immediately, AAA investigated before you could blink an eye, it found in my favor and a reimbursement check was issued. Wow, my head is still spinning. Hopefully, AAA will conduct further investigation and disaffiliate from this business. Especially when you are at your most vulnerable -- stuck in your car with everyone honking at you, wondering if it is time to stop throwing good money after bad and get a new car ... that is when you want a tow and car repair company you can (sort of) trust. So my hat is off to AAA for its swift response to this member's problem. [If they disaffiliate this company in the future -- and I find out about it -- I will award a fifth star. As it stands, AAA was responsible for my relying on this company in the first place, which warrants one demerit.] read more

I was a customer for nearly 20 yrs in California and only discontinued my auto- insurance because I sold my car. They sent a bill to debt collection for the car that was either not in use or sold. Didn't notify me of this outstanding amount when I called to let them know I'd sold the car and said there was nothing they could do if the agent had been clear with me. I will not be going back to them as they clearly don't care about customer loyalty and neither will my family or friends. read more

Called upon them at least 3-4 times in the last ten years. Either ran out of gas or flat tire. Every time they have painlessly performed. Gotta say I'm sold. Excellent service is hard to beat. Once I ran out of gas in Sherman Ct off a side road three miles down a private dirt road. I had company. A UPS truck with a driver told me about a bear he saw cross the road near were I was out of gas. AAA hung in there with me and delivered gas to get me back up than down the hill to rt 7 to fill up! BTW I tried to use our brands roadside service. They assigned a tow who never showed up. We waited over two hours. They never responded after the first text, Thank you, AAA! read more

Service call at 9:30 AM. 10:30 no show. Call again at 11; they contact tow company. Driver calls and said he will be there in 30 minutes. Never showed. They had my motorcycle as a "Mclaren" going somewhere else and apologized profusely at 4PM. Jennifer in Customer Service is an All Star! Don't bother calling their "Consumer Help" 1-800-291-8022; they are worthless. And ALWAYS ask for a case number! read more

For many years AAA has offered DMV services at its branches. Unfortunately, today's attempt at using those services at the 1881 Broadway NYC location was a complete waste of time. The customer service rep (probably hispanic, heavy set, mid-30s) couldn't have been less helpful. The ID requirements for an enhanced NYS license are stiff, but I brought everything required: current license, passport, bank statement, 1099 Form. Your rep tried to tell me that I'd brought the wrong 1099. Really? It's the only one I get from my consulting job. And since I don't have my social security card (I'm 66 years old, how many people my age have that card?) the 1099 is all I can provide. Providing a copy of my Federal tax return wouldnt satisfy the rep either ("We can't print anything here..." was his response) Hope this complaint reaches the branch manager. That rep's negative attitude was worse than anything I've ever experienced at an actual DMV office. read more

This AAA office is THE BEST! I went for their DMV services, specifically two title transactions. Miguel was the person who helped me and he was super knowledgable, helpful and professional. I am not sure whether due to Covid, but I had a hard time reaching somebody on the main DMV line to help me. I wasn't sure what forms to fill out for each of my transactions, so I filled out a few at home and just brought them with me to my appt. Once at the office, Miguel understood exactly what I was trying to accomplish , pulled the forms he needed from my stack, and got the transactions done quickly and with such a pleasant demeanor! I noticed that the other people working there were also very nice, wishing people safe trips after giving them their International Drivers Licenses, for example. I am so happy to have found this location! read more

This is about making several calls to 'member services' and how pathetic their assistance was for me. ]I have been a member since 1978. That is 45 years. I have the AAA Plus, because I drive an older car and like that little bit of extra security, though I think I will downgrade it after this experience. This is not the first time I have found them to be totally incompetent. A number of years ago, they so badly screwed up a roadside assistance call, that with a little bit of pressure, they agreed to give me a year membership on them! In the past ten years I have used them four times. Here is what happened today. I received a letter in the mail stating that it was most likely time for me to take the driver defensive course. Note - their letter says 'most likely time'. I have been taking the course with them since I began driving, 1977. I always attend one of their classes; I do not do the course on line. The letter seemed wrong. I seem to remember I took the course not too long ago, when the city began to open up again after the pandemic. In fact, I took the class at this address, their headquarters. It was the first time they were giving the class at their own location. It was actually very good. ... So I say, let me call them and see as per their records when I last took the course. Foolish of me, I just should have called my insurance carrier. They would have provided a quick and accurate answer. I dialed member services on my card. A lot of phone prompts, hit the one I thought best described my needs, got connected to someone who told me - member services doesn't keep that information on the computer for them to access... She will transfer me. It was very hard to understand her and she was so low, that is her volume, that in and of itself was frustrating. I was transferred. I waited not more than 2 minutes, but as soon as I was connected I was disconnected. I called back. WTF can't member services be able to look up this information? Selected the option from the prompts again, waited, long endless messages about 'long wait times', about how to connect via their app, about text messaging being the best way to contact them... Now I was connected with a rep who I could barely hear (again). He told me that is handled by a different department and he will transfer me. And now, it gets worse. Now I am connected with this guy who I can hardly, barely, understand. I wondered if I was now being helped by someone out of the USA ... He want to look me up in his system by my e mail address. I give it to him. He says, he shows no record of me with the AAA and therefore he does not see when I last took the defensive driving course. I told him, I have been a member for 45 years and have used the e mail given to him hundreds of times. I tell him, I have a membership #, can't he look it up by that ? He said no. WHAT ... What about my name. And here we go. I go... M as in mother, I as in interesting ... all the way through my first and last name. The connection is poor. He keep repeating it back to me as we are starting to strangle one another. Finally he say, NO, I don't show a record of you. OMG, it has now been 32 minutes and I can't find out this simple information... WTheF did I take my last defensive driving class with you, AAA. Please when. The guy says he will transfer me to his supervisor, and I can explain to her what the problem is. He transfers me and I note - she answers the phone saying AARP - not AAA. So the customer service rep who answered my call transferred me to an AARP division, and I never would have know that had this supervisor not stated it when she identified herself. I asked her to transfer me back to the main menu of the phone prompts & she said she was incapable of connecting me back. And now, I make the next call. I am already furious. Once connected, the woman who answered the call-once I was transferred to the proper area, with the proper rep who could answer my question, does find me as a member and say to me the last time you took the defensive driving class was 2013. Oh My God. I just took it like within the past two years. And again I stated I have been taking the course with you guys for 40 plus years. She says, she will put me on hold and speak with her supervisor. Now I am on hold and she comes back to me and says it will be about 3-5 minutes and I say OK. Now, at that very moment I sign onto my car insurance company's website, access my account and see a pdf copy of the course completion certificate. I last took the course APRIL 2022. The letter they sent me is gravely wrong as to when I last took the course & that is maybe time for me to take it now. The rep comes back on the phone. She says the supervisor is behind, but she will transfer me to her line and I can leave a voice mail message or remain on hold in the que. I did not state I already have the information. Wow, nobody has reviewed AAA of Greater, New York? Well let me be the first. I know that traditionally many New Yorkers did not have cars due to the cost of parking them and having a great 24 hour public transportation system. But traffic and perpetual gridlock would indicate that somebody is driving those cars! According to Wikipedia 40% of New Yorkers own cars.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transportation_in_New_York_City Fewer than 30% use their cars to go to work according to Wikipedia. If you do own a car I highly recommend joining AAA! Many might not know if you are a member of AAA you can get discounts on theme parks, movies, hotels, cruises, vacations, sight seeing and flights. We are members of AAA and use it to book most hotels and vacations. But we originally joined AAA because of the road side assistance benefits.It is Nation wide so once you join you get benefits wherever you are! We were at the Jersey shore and our car broke down. My husband called the 800 number and within 5 minutes AAA was there! I went into Starbucks prepared to wait for hours. He just appeared like he was waiting for us within less than 5 minutes! Really great service and if we did not have AAA we would have had to pay out of pocket. But the service is free to members! read more

I went to this office to get my International Driving Permit. I went on a Friday afternoon at about 3pm. The staff was friendly and very fast. The visit took me about 10 minutes from the time I walked in until I left with my permit in hand. All you need is a valid US drivers license. I had the form already filled out but I didn't have a passport photo. But it only cost $25 for the permit and photo. The whole process was very painless and easy. read more

But I was just in and out in 10 minutes for an international driver's license and I've already saved enough money in AAA discounts this year to pay for my membership. I would avoid this place like the plague. The assistant i had was extremely rude and unprofessional. I simply needed an international driver's permit and I felt like i was at the N.Y. DMV - with someone who hated her job and had no interest in helping a customer. I joined AAA to have extra security- did the "Plus" membership. I cancelled it and here's why. I called AAA when my almost new car wouldn't start. They connected me to New York City Tire and Auto Care. (This is their go-to place in NYC. I didn't see all of the other complaints lodged on their yelp page by AAA members until it was too late.) This should be a bad review for AAA and NYC Tire and Auto. Anyway- I had no choice but to use them. They had to come back 3 times on 3 different days - each with at least an hour waiting time- for the same problem. 1. First time, didn't bring the equipment I said they needed. They had to come back another day and never started my car. 2. The second time they brought a new battery, replaced my factory original battery with a cheap one, charged me for it, installed it and I was on my way. 3. Third time the car was dead because the battery he installed was the wrong one. I had to get it jumped again by him and drive it to a mechanic who replaced the battery with a DieHard and said the battery they installed was the wrong one for the car and could have done damage. So I had to pay for 2 batteries, waste 3 days and hope the battery didn't damage the car. Tried to cancel my AAA membership as a result- AAA wanted to charge me $10 to cancel my membership. Also AAA wouldn't deal with the garage and towing service they sent me to- wouldn't deal with or any of these issues and said I had to take it up with the garage. Now I see all of these bad reviews - I would never use AAA in NYC. Totally pathetic. I feel bad for the guy at this garage because he's really sweet and kind - and the AAA people were nice too but they didn't do the job- made me buy two batteries, made me lose days of work. I'm really mad at AAA for connecting me to these people and forcing me to use them when I was in an emergency and never dealing with the fall out. read more

THANK YOU, thank you, thank you!!! We are visiting NYC from Canada and we were planning on driving home tomorrow. Went out this morning to discover a flat tire on our car! Yikes! Called AAA, and under reciprocal agreement with CAA, were able to get someone to come out. We thought we would have to have the tire pulled off, the donut put on, and then drive around looking for someone to fix the flat. Not so! The AAA guy pulled off the flat, saw it was a nail that caused the problem, and was able to fix the flat at the roadside for us (at a small additional cost as this is not part of AAA plan). He arrived within 30 minutes and had the repair done and tire back on the car in another 30 minutes. We were expecting our whole last day in NY to be consumed with getting this dealt with. Not even close. Oh, and he added air to the temporary spare as it was low too. Thank Gawd!!! Amazing service and a blessing on this long weekend. read more
