I finally got to see The Lion King for the very first time, something I've wanted to experience for many years, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. I went solo and honestly loved the experience. I purposely chose an aisle seat so I could watch the performers move up and down the aisles, and I'm so glad I did. It made the show feel even more immersive and special, especially during those moments when the cast comes through the audience. The venue itself is beautiful and easy to navigate. From entering the building to finding my seat, everything felt organized and smooth. The seating was comfortable, the sightlines were great, and the sound quality was excellent, which really matters for a production like this. As for The Lion King, it was amazing. The costumes, music, and staging were stunning, and seeing it live after wanting to for so long made it even more meaningful. Overall, such a great first experience at this venue. I would absolutely come back to see another performance here, and I'm so glad this is where I finally got to see a show that had been on my list for years

Kim's little homey cottage is located right next to the Sierra 2 Center in East Sacramento and there is street parking available. The class for my daughter's age group is on Tuesdays from 5-7pm with 1 hour being for singing/voice lessons and the other 1 hour being for dance lessons. There are 4 classes a month essentially for under $200. Kim was very professional and great with the kids! It was fun to see new and returning students in her class and to see who was comfortable and who was still coming out of their shell. My daughter had a great time at the trail class, but she currently does another activity on Tuesdays so the class for her age group isn't a good fit for us right now, but we hope to come back and join Kim's class in the future. Give them a call or visit if you or your kids are interested in Performing Arts - Kim has been around for 30+ years and you can tell how much she loves what she does!

I've been attending Broadway Sacramento (formerly known as Broadway Series) musicals here for the…read morepast decade, as well as the Music Circus. Basically these are the national/domestic/U.S. touring companies -- so not truly "community" theater as the venue name might suggest. My first show at CCT was Les Miserables, actually. In the Heights, West Side Story, Wicked, Avenue Q, Starlight Express, Mamma Mia!, Chicago, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Jersey Boys, Phantom of the Opera, Rent, and Spring Awakening...One of my favorite non-musical shows I've seen here was Kristen Chenoweth in concert (the original Glinda from Wicked, and Pushing Daisies, GCB, etc.). So awesome. ...anyway, I've sat in all the different seats: orchestra near the front, rear orchestra, balcony front row, balcony boxes, and second grand tier. If you can, splurge on seats in the orchestra level (middle to front) for the best acoustics and views. The rear orchestra is fine if you care more for listening to the show or focusing on the bigger picture/staging than seeing the particular actor's faces so much. The balconies aren't stacked on top of the orchestra as far forward as in other theaters, but the box seats are roomier for sure. Be aware that the front row of the balconies does have a bar/railing to help people walk across, but can hinder the view of the stage once you're actually sitting down. The staff is pretty friendly and helpful with finding seating, will call tickets aren't a problem, and tickets by phone are easy too. For all the ladies out there, here's a tip. Instead of waiting forever in the lines for women's restrooms inside the Community Center Theater, make sure to bring your show ticket with you, exit the rear of the building and use the bathrooms at the adjacent Sacramento Convention Center Complex. Parking-wise, I usually use the Capitol Garage at 10th and L Streets and it never exceeds $5. I really wish that they had a marquee at the entrance to the theater along L Street instead of just in front of the Convention Center along J Street. They've improvised with banners across the building, or the parking the tour busses/bigrig trucks in front of the theater, with a few posters in the glass display cases in the lobby. The newer format of the seasons (fewer shows, shorter runs) isn't ideal, and there have been a few technical difficulties (mics and set pieces) but I am still a faithful patron. Sacramento has a "little sister" stigma because what city can measure up to San Francisco? SF is an amazing (and amazingly expensive) place, and as a Sacramento resident and theatergoer, sure SF shows are great too (you know you're in a pricey seat when the teeny old theaters have renovation fees included in the price and legroom is on par with coach airline rows, and the balconies already cost $50 minimum) but only once in awhile for my wallet/budget's sake. Go see a show at the Community Center Theater, at least once. 2013-2014's lineup (November-June) includes Priscilla, Buddy, Flashdance, Blue Man Group, Sister Act, and Wicked.

It's a historic theater in downtown Sacramento that presents live entertainment, movies, and special events. What makes it unique is the stage in front of the screen, which gives it a classic, old-school vibe. She paid for the tickets ahead of time, but their system was down when we arrived. They had to check everyone in manually from a laptop. It was understandable things happen and the staff handled it as smoothly as they could. While she was confirming our tickets, I grabbed popcorn. Sadly, the popcorn was a little salty. Like most theaters, it was a little pricey. We may or may not have brought our own candy and drinks... don't tell anybody. It had a good crowd but wasn't too bad.We got some good seats. Since it's a historic theater and not a newer upscale cinema, the seats didn't recline and were a little small, but they were still comfortable enough I've seen Coming to America plenty of times on TV, but watching it on the big screen in a classic theater like this was a different experience. Overall, it was a great date night. Good movie, even better company. My girl definitely did her thing planning this one. My girl and I are definitely coming back again!!

I haven't taken lessons from them personally, but my best friend currently is, and is benefitting from it tremendously. I just saw her as Peter Quince in their production of A Midsummer Night's Dream, which was delightful. This show still has two weekends left to go if you want to check it out! You won't see my friend as she's headed to NYC, but they double cast several of the roles, so no worries there. So why should you see this show? If you haven't seen it before, it's a must. It is the most enchanting and entertaining of Shakespeare's comedies. You don't even have to be a fan of or have a base knowledge of Shakespeare to enjoy this play. It has a ton of visual humor, gorgeous costumes, hilarious moments, and characters with big personalities. Their production includes people of all ages, including children. My favorite performances were those of Peter Quince (yes that's bias on my part), Puck, Oberon, Cobweb, and of course, Bottom. The entire company was brilliant and I laughed so hard I cried at one point. The costumer also did a fabulous job on the whimsical ensembles. Sooo many fairy lights!!! I'm glad I got to tell her so in person. :-) Tickets will cost you $20 if you want to see this show during its run through October. (Students and Seniors can get in for $18.) October 4-13, shows will be once a day on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Performances are on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 2 pm. The Actor's Workshop utilizes a couple different theatres in the complex on R street, so do be sure you know which theatre your show is located in. If you plan to see AMND the next two weekends it's running, it's located on the California Stage that faces the train tracks on R street. I've also been here for Actor's Workshop Stay, Carl Stay and The Audience, among other short plays, and they have all been excellent. Parking is available unmetered on R street and on 25th and 26th streets as well. They sell wine during shows with a $3 suggested donation per cup. We had a choice of two reds and two whites today. Very nice touch!

WEBSITE- I have to say that the website for California Stage needs help. It is difficult to find information for all of the plays within the 3 different theatres in order to purchase tickets. The information on the website seems to only highlight the plays on the main California Stage and the links to find the other stages either don't list the information or you're sent to a "Page Under Construction". I finally found tickets by finding the Ovation Stage's separate website (there's no link from the CalStage website). SIGNAGE- When you arrive to the California Stage R25 complex, there is little to no signage about which plays are showing in which theatres. I recently went to see a play at the Ovation Theatre. No signage was available to direct me to walk around the building to find the door for this theatre. I had to be told by someone who saw me with a confused look on my face when I entered the area where the entrances are for the 2 other stages. Signs directing patrons would be a great help. OVATION STAGE- The Ovation Stage must be the ugly stepchild of R25. Not only does it have no insulation (you see the underside of the metal roof when you're in your seat), but there's also no air conditioning. So, be prepared to feel like you're in a sauna during a warm day (probably above 80 degrees). When I attended, it was actually cooler in the lobby and outside than it was inside. NOT GOOD! I was sweating indoors and wishing I had brought a spray bottle fan with me. Thankfully, I had a program to use as a fan, and the $2 bottles of water were chilled. However, some people left at intermission, never to return. At $20+ per ticket and no theatre expense for microphones or any major sound equipment, you'd think there'd at least be money available for a cooling system. NOPE! Plus, the play I saw was not good. Bad play + hot building = Not returning
