You know the kind that hurts so good? Enter Rasmus at God-Krop. Not only did he rearrange his schedule on the same day I needed him (very likely taking a shorter lunch break in order to make it happen), but seriously, best massage I've had in Copenhagen (and I've been looking for two years!). Rasmus has excellent energy, and is gentle and clearly knows the body well. He provides feedback about how to avoid injuries in the future, and gives you tips on areas of your body that could use more focus in order to build muscle and support the type of training you do. He takes his time, focusing on each muscle group, and after a 60 minute treatment you feel like one million dollars. He has several other employees doing various types of massages out of his ground floor office around the corner from Dronning Louises Bro. Some are very strong and great for deep tissue massages, some are more gentle and are best for the spa/relaxation variety. Call him, tell him what you're looking for, and ask for suggestions. Wilhelm Lundstrøm did some beautiful mosaics for the walls. You can also find a lot of sculptures. I like the classic and functional look of building. Clearly the have done most of the conversion and modernization in the same spirit as it was done originally. At Frederiksberg Svømmehal you naturally can go for a swim and play in the water. Weekends and holidays they have a special area open for smaller children. It is also well renowned for the spa and wellness facilities. Fitness World also have a gym in the building. But perhaps the most unusual attraction is a bucket shower where ice cold water literally cascades onto the rope puller's head from a large wooden bucket perched directly overhead when a rope tied to the bucket is manually pulled to overturn and provide a cold drenching and a refreshing dunking between heat applications. Then, after a load of water is dropped, the bucket immediately rights itself and is automatically refilled. So, drenchings can be repeated if one happens to be in a masochistic mood. You see, yelpers, once a lady becomes accustomed to a body scrub, she finds it difficult to function without exfoliation on a semi-regular basis. And so, as the story goes, after failed attempts at self-scrub, vacations were planned with this sort of service in mind, since something like a hammam didn't exist here. No longer is this the story, thank goodness. This hammam is not only about on par with any hammam you'd visit in Istanbul, but it's also VERY reasonably priced by Danish standards. There are days for the ladies, and days for the gents, and after two hours of steam, scrub, soap, sauna, they fill you with fresh juice, cookies, and tea, and you're sent on your merry way, totally relaxed, and rejuvenated. Pro-tip: bring your own shampoo and conditioner for a post-hammam shower, and any other toiletries you might need. They have hair dryers, but no brushes. Pro-pro-tip: they have an excellent enclosed garden out front which will be AWESOME once it's finally warm enough to sit outside. A great place to take tea and cookies, IMHO.
