ORIGIN: The site of the Bantam Cinema & Arts Center is said…read moreto be the oldest movie theater in Connecticut. A local grocer, Domenico Evangelisti, opened the then named Rivoli Theater in 1929. Apparently equally visionary, the owner of neighboring Bantam Ball Bearing Company had periodically entertained employees with silent movies, and sold the projector to Evangelisti's son before shifting manufacturing out-of-state to be near the emerging South Bend automobile industry. CONCEPT: Their vision has since been sustained by local aficionados of the arts -- most recently a dedicated group of community members who established non-profit status for the historic theater in 2021. EXPERIENCE: Expect to see viewers reconnecting and chatting before and after the showings. The Cinema remains a community space. TIP: Enjoy dinner, sweet, and/or drink at neighboring restaurants -- La Catrina, Arethusa, Materia.

Per my last sentence, be sure you go online and KNOW what you want to do and what you want to spend! You can 'easily' spend a lot of money here - on the other hand, if you know what you're doing you can have a nice afternoon/evening here at a reasonable cost. Again, go on the website beforehand. I can't stress this enough! Their wine is expensive as are 'some' seating options so be advised. We were actually there 3x's this spring/summer. Went to a big party under one of their large structured tents, then we had a small party under an umbrella table, and then went up again this past weekend and just sat in chairs and caught a sunset and amazing dinner from Greek Cave food truck. The food trucks (always 2) vary, but they list whose there on the website along with any entertainment (extra cost). Very annoying is the fact you can't call there! You have to text or email and their response(s) are NOT always timely! Unprofessional that you can't call and speak to someone.

The hostess station was also unnecessarily complicated and honestly felt a little crazy to navigate. Also if their is a band insidedont go inside. So unbelievable loud!!!!!! Overall, between the cigar smoke, frustrating reservation system, and disappointing wine, this just isn't a place I would recommend if you're looking for a good wine experience.

Mark has offered me a range of options from the most economical to the most complete repairs including gilding, reattaching artwork to frames, repairing the frames themselves at a range of prices and left the choice to me after giving his expert opinion. His work has been of excellent quality, and his prices have been quite reasonable. I have done both minimal inexpensive repairs for less valuable pieces to complete restoration of more valuable artworks and frames, and the quality of his work is consistent at all levels. He is a pleasure to work with......talented, knowledgable, friendly and fairly priced. You really get a lot of "bang for the buck" with his work. My highest 5 star recommendation. He is currently working on another piece for me, and I have more in the pipeline that I will bring him when they arrive damaged from the transportation from Europe which does happen from time to time. Run, do not walk, to his studio if you need this kind of quality service at an affordable price!
