I have been really hesitant to post about my experience because the obvious and typical bigot- driven situation caused me to react to the situation and not speak truth to the rabid ignorance of a racist. My husband and I stopped at an estate sale that was being given in a town I had lived in most of my life, and if I had known that's where we were going, I would have probably stayed home...but he wanted to surprise me because he spotted the cedar chest I wanted. As we walked around looking at other stuff, we found a room that looked like a bedroom, and looked around, intrigued at a 2nd cedar chest, the art and a jewelry box I wanted to buy. While husband was admiring some stuff, I focused on the jewelry box I was contemplating buying when I heard one of the ladies in a green smock behind me. I turned to asked her a question and when I did, I noticed we were SURROUNDED by 4 people on my left and one off duty cop or security "person" on my right, dressed in street clothes, but obvious. I was confused until I saw the eyes of the person I suppose was offended by black people being on the property as I know bigots when I see them..the hard " n- how dare you" piercing stare, the helmet hair, folded arms, etc. I told my husband we needed to leave and uttered words I wouldn't usually say, but the fact that we were being accused of stealing at an overpriced garage sale was an INSULT, and accused because WE ARE BLACK, moved me to rage. The way the situation was handled was disrespectful and disappointing, and if the OWNER didn't want black people in the house, they should've posted a beware sign as bigots usually do. I have no real issues with the host, only the actions of the employees who didnt care to ask , inquire, pull to the side...NOTHING...before they surrounded potential buyers in a manner so threatening it felt violent, not to mention the bigot standing in the center of it all, arms folded, as if their biased assumption and closed minded, typical accusation was accurate, and then they and the invasive strong arm security "person" proceeding to follow us around the house as if WE were a threat to anyone there, when the fact of it was WE were attacked, just on someone's ignorant bias and the corrosive malignancy of racism displayed the accuser's lying face.
