The wealth of Lüneburg is mainly based on salt, which is located in the cities underground.
Nowadays salt-works are still present in the Kurpark and possibilities for swimming in high salty water (brine).
Lüneburg is known to have the highest density of pubs in Germany and the seceond largest in Europe (Barcelona is placed first).
Also the silver treasure, the Lüneburg Ratssilber Schatz, is the largest still existing treasure of a German city. A copy may be admired in the town hall, the original is exhibited in Museum of decorative arts, Berlin (Potsamer Platz branch).
