No bells and whistles, but clean, comfortable, and a great breakfast included in the price. The staff spoke English well and were always very helpful. Just a short walk from the lake, shopping, and government building. A 25 minute easy walk to the warehouse district. My only recommendation would be to ask for a room high up or at the end of the hall because it was kind of loud. You can hear everything happening in the hallway.

I'm use to staying in Hotels that have crappy service and maybe a breakfast buffet of a few stale roles and MAYBE butter... but Hotel Alster-Hof was just too much. The Breakfast was perfect and they even let me take a tray full of food from the breakfast buffet to my hungover girlfriend in our room. They were just soooo nice while helping me in this mission. Fr. Hahn, Hr. Niko and Hr. Abassi got me a tray and demanded that they make it look nice before I could take it upstairs... I had a killer hangover though so I didn't care but you should have seen the look on my girlfriends face when she saw the spread. Impressed. They made us coffee and helped get everything prepared before I could take it to the room. I was both annoyed at how damn nice they were and also really happy that there was a staff that was so helpful and caring. Senay helped us out of the hotel and she was alright too... thanks for the water... we needed it ;) In conclusion, if you actually like a nice staff, great food and comfortable beds then 100% come here.... for me... bah humbug hamburg. ;)

Fabulous staff: the guy on reception was very helpful and pleasant, a real gem. Another positive is the adjacent cafe/restaurant with very decent food reasonably priced, and which provides the hotel with a good breakfast buffet in the morning. Would normally get a better rating but the front rooms are terribly noisy (facing major road) and the single rooms are the smallest I have ever stayed in. The bathroom was so tiny that I had to sit sideways on the loo (sorry for that detail).

Nice little hotel at top location (U Hallerstrasse). It must have been completely renovated…read morerecently because the old pics and reviews here don't do it justice. The single rooms are rather small but the rooms towards the back are quiet and have a nice big balcony (I stayed in such a room). The hotel looks sleek and modern, there's free WLAN, flatscreen tv and iPod docking station in the rooms. And, most important for me, everything was impeccably clean. The breakfast is nothing special but the staff is very friendly and helpful. All in all, it was a good stay.
