The motel itself is a beautiful property with different sized accommodations to fit your needs, from larger rooms to smaller rooms. All have a full kitchen and bath that are completely modern and upgraded, and the beds are large with new mattresses and comfortable beautiful bedding. The pensions are part of a property that is a large farm in a quaint village called Oberboehmsdorf. There is free wifi, televisions, and comfortable large living spaces. This is also the cleanest and best well-kept pensions I have ever stayed in!
The area is an excellent place for hikers, bikers, motorbikes, cyclists, swimming, fishing, boating, grilling, wandering and relaxing in the natural rolling hills, streams and woods. Untouched by heavy tourism, this is truly a hidden gem in Germany and a lovely place to unwind from the stress and crowds of city living. The people are relaxed, warm, and welcoming, and the area is very charming. In summertime, all of the villages in the area have festivals and outdoor celebrations nearly every weekend. Pension Oberland is also closely situated to the yearly summer outdoor music festival Sonne Mond Sterne (Sun Moon Stars) which is held in August every year.
Also, within a 10 minute drive from the Pension Oberland, you can experience one of the coolest things I have seen in Germany to date (after 6 or 7 times visiting the country and living there for over a year) : Dorf Mödlareuth aka Little Berlin. It is an indoor/outdoor museum dedicated to preserving the memory of the division and reunification of East & West Germany. There is a large part of the wall still there, as well as actual guard towers that you can climb into, bunkers where soldiers stayed, hideout huts that they climbed into (to shoot would-be escapees) and many photos of the border before and after the wall was built and destroyed. It is really a must-see for fans of German culture and history, and is so much more unique, calm, and more relaxing (and interesting) than fighting the tourist busses and crowds in Berlin.
