I stayed here for a work trip in June last year. We were doing a huge trade show and most of the top name resorts were either extremely overpriced or completely booked.
I found this quaint little hotel in Kempen which was about a 35 minute drive to the convention center in Düsseldorf. Kempen is a historic area with some of the buildings dating back in 1700's or earlier. The area itself was wonderful. The views of my morning run were a mix of lush greenery and old Historic castle like structures.
The hotel is a small building with 3 floors-the first floor was occupied by the onsite restaurant and front desk for the hotel. The room itself was very small as expected. The room consisted of a queen bed which sat low to the ground, a small desk and chair and a flat screen mounted to the wall. Cable was included but I spent all of my time taking in the sites outside!
Breakfast was included but I never had the opportunity to eat it because I was trying to get very last minute of sleep that I could. Jet lag can be brutal!
The cons: the beautiful church at the city center chimes every hour. The chimes were music to my ears but by day two I wanted to rip the bell out of wall! There was no air conditioning just windows with a slight breeze. No air conditioning? How can they survive?
If you can look past the lack of air conditioning and the church bell chimes I would recommend this quaint hotel. read more
