As an alpine enthusiast, I was sorely disappointed in this museum. The storytelling of the first displays is unstructured and it was a little difficult to understand what information or perspectives I should have been absorbing. It wasn't until I had reached the end of the first room that I understood the narrative they were trying to give.
From the second room on, things get a little more interesting. Still, there was one moment when I felt that I was just looking at postcards, which is slightly less informative of the DAV history than I wanted. The most interesting rooms were the ones the discussed the DAV's history with respect to the industrial revolution in mountaineering, and to national socialism.
The special exhibit I found to be really poorly laid out and extremely dull. I've seen 7th grade science projects that had more panache. The exhibit was supposed to educate on the environmental impact of development, tourism, and weekenders on the integrity of the alpine ecosystem. Granted, I am well-versed in the topic already, but I found the displays - which had all the stage presence of a real estate listing - utterly incapable of holding my attention. That aside, the positioning of the video exhibit in the middle of the room and near the entrance was also not so well conceived.
I don't recommend this museum. If you do choose to come here, make sure you speak German really well. Nothing is in English, and the special vocabulary can be challenging. read more
