I have lived here for two years and only had minimal problems. I will say that there is a fantastic lady on the maintenance team, Dubbie Gomero. She is always on the ball and very dependable to get done and help you with whatever you need fixed. She gets five stars in my book! Unfortunately, my neighbor on one side has not been a good one to have. They make noise constantly and bang on walls. I turned them into the office and they threatened to kill me. I asked them nicely to not walk through the little yard that I do have and this is what I got. The laundry rooms are so so. They are nice to use right after they get cleaned but they get very dirty very quick. The new mailboxes they put in are quite a ways away for disabled person to get to which is a new issue. They used to be closer to our house and now they're not. The office has been nice to help me with my moving out since I am waiting for new construction to be finished. My move date keeps changing. They have these horrible trees and you get a car wash, come back and park in a spot, and the next morning your car has all these sticky sticky leaves all over it along with the bird crap there I'm tired of paying for a car washes! We have also had several apartments blow up due to meth labs and these apartments have a lot of drug use in them. I do like the size of my apartment and I love that nobody is above you but the walls are thin so you do hear everything from your neighbors. When you call the office and tell them some of the stuff, they just tell you to call the sheriff. The sheriff says they can't do anything you need to contact the landlord. Kind of a waste of time! She is truly a highlight in a apartment that leaves a lot to be desired management wise. Eli the maintenance supervisor is also awesome and will do anything in his power to make sure that what you need is taken care of. They are older buildings and with that will come issues but if you put a request in they will be there to fix your issue in no time. read more

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING!! Do yourself a huge favor and DO NOT move in this trashy trailer park called Alpine Village "apartments"! Christina, aka "Tina" is a lair for starters... Property management is horrible at returning phone calls, wont answer my calls unless we *67 or call from another number so they wont know who it is. While looking at the apartment for the first time before signing any papers, during the walk though I had noticed..... Paint stained carpet, dirty walls, dirty bathrooms with caked on soap scum in the shower, broken toilet seats in both bathrooms, rodent feces in the patio closet. Christina aka "Tina" had advised me the carpet would be replaced with brand new carpet, the walls would be painted, bathrooms would be cleaned and the toilet seats would be fixed before our move in date as well as the rodent feces to be cleaned up and would fix the problem to prevent further infestation, and she assured me the entire apartment would have a detailed thorough cleaning done before my move in date. Well.... Upon the first day of obtaining the keys,and during the walk through inspection of the "apartment" the paint stains were still there, indicating the carpet in fact was NOT replaced, the walls were spot painted with many places being missed, both bathroom toilets seats were still broken (one with constant running water), the rodent feces was still collecting in the patio closet., bathrooms and kitchen counter was obviously neglected to be cleaned. The carpet had smelt like pet urine covered up with carpet cleaner, dead flies in the window tracks where the broken screens were barley hanging on. After a couple of phone calls to this Christina aka "Tina" she had stopped answering my calls, when ever I would call from my number there would be no answer, when calling from a different number or *67 I would get an answer only to be blown off with more excuses. They eventually came and fixed the toilets, and sent a carpet cleaner over to shampoo the carpet. ROACHES!!!! FILTHY ROACHES!!!! I had asked this "Tina" in person face to face if she had any problems with rodents, bugs, or ROACHES considering she was the last person to have rented the place. The look on her face she acted as if she was insulted that I had asked such thing... I have been here in this sh*t hole less than a week and have already seen about a dozen roaches throughout the "apartment". The base of the sliding glass door from the bedroom to the patio is rusted and stained with what she said was from her dog urinating on it, which I was blown away that someone could allow their pet to urinate in the property they live in. The surrounding area is absolute filth! Other residents crap everywhere, I drive through the property looking around feeling like I'm in a trashy trailer park! HORRIBLE, and such a waste of money. This was a spur of the moment, last minute decision I made which I highly regret dearly! I am more than embarrassed to claim I live there and cannot wait until my lease is up! DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!!! I have lived all over the United States, renting due to the nature of my employment. This is by far the worst experience I have ever had living in a rental unit. I will summarize the key points of my opinion regarding the complex below in order to most effectively persuade you to never rent here. -apartments are old and in disrepair due to ineffective or unprofessional repairs (wall patches, ceiling water damage, damaged electrical outlets) -trash dumpsters are frequently overflowing with refuse, oftentimes garbage bags and trash from garbage bags lays upon the ground for weeks near the dumpsters. -property management is unresponsive to any complaints By far the biggest issue at the complex is that there is absolutely no screening of tenants by property management. The only important thing to the company is to keep units occupied at all times. This leads to the worst sort of residents in these apartments, as well as constant evictions and residents fleeing the conditions of the complex. Oftentimes, apartments become de facto flophouses. Several residents actually rent the apartment, then allow many others to live there, either full time or part time. There was actually a felon on probation living next door to my unit who had rented "a room" from the actual tenant on craigslist. There is absolutely no oversight or management of the complex once the "front man" rents the apartment. These people do not seem to be gainfully employed either, so they will always be present in the complex - day or night. In addition these "flop house" apartments are often lived in by younger drug-using residents. Loud alcohol-fueled parties throughout the week and weekend often ensue, without any effective response by the designated security agency (Harbor Patrol). You will have no quiet or peace in your apartment while living here. There are a great many domestic disturbances taking place on a regular basis. There are many pitbulls and other prohibited dog breeds (prohibited in the lease you sign) present within the complex. Management collects no pet rent from these pets obviously, since they are prohibited. They will however, charge honest pet owners with allowed breeds. I rented here because I had to find a place from out of state on a short notice and I took a gamble. I lost that wager. I have approximately four months remaining on my lease and the complex will not release me from the lease, even with all the issues I have experienced. In sum, I implore you, do not consider renting here, If you have a family or small children, stop at this review and think of this complex no more. Any other renters are strongly discouraged from renting here. Negative reviews such as this are often countered by canned responses from the management company trying to mitigate the damage. Do not believe any of it. The only motivation I have is trying to save you from leasing in this slum and exposing yourself to the misery and frustration that I have experienced. Beware of the bait and switch. They were very nice and showed us one unit that was done and ready to be rented. When we expressed interest in an upcoming unit we were told we had to wait til it's ready to see it and wanted us to put a $300 deposit down to hold it. I declined the deposit and was given an appt. to view said unit at a later date. Appt. day is here. Thank goodness I called to confirm. I was informed that the unit rented. So, they only got me for a $48 dollar application fee. But, I would have driven all the way out there, cause they couldn't make a phone to cancel the appt. they made for me to view the unit. Very unprofessional &inconsiderate!!! Based on the other bad reviews here, I feel sorry for the poor sap that rented this apartment, sight unseen! read more

This place has some serious pros and some serious cons. If 2.5 stars was an option for me to give, I suppose I would give it. But it isn't - and I just can't bring myself to round up. The layout of these apartments is great. Many are shady, green & the grounds are kept quite well. As other reviewers have mentioned, there is nobody above or below you. It's wonderful in that respect! Also: gas stoves & HOT hot water. Yes! Maintenance guys are very nice. You see 'em around daily. Its a cool, and quite nice looking community, ESPECIALLY for the price. HOWEVER, there are some serious issues. At my apartment, an un-designated parking spot is right in front of our walkway to our front door. We LITERALLY WALK THROUGH A PLANTER EVERY DAY TO GET TO OUR HOME. The people in the office are SO kind, but must be helpless. I don't know why this can't be resolved. Its absolutely ridiculous. Also, and probably more importantly: MY CAR HAS BEEN STOLEN FROM HERE. Granted, it is a Honda- I know those are easier to steal than other cars. But it still happened, & right outside my window. Very creepy. What really sucks is: the complex is supposed to have a security presence. The Harbor Patrol I believe. I can't be sure - because the only time I ever see them or their cars is if one of their vehicles break down and they leave it in an open parking space for a week or two for temporary storage. Lastly, last night a resident's car alarm was going off for HOURS. While I absolutely understand the complex is not responsible for this, you would imagine that there would be a phone number available to call the security company. Apparently, this is far too much to ask. I'm not too keen on the idea of renewing my lease at Alpine Village Apartments. And my recommendation is this: Don't rent here unless you get an AMAZING deal. Because you'll likely have to do a lot of standing up for yourself through your time residing here. read more

The office staff is very friendly, and helps when anything I need almost immediately. The best part of these apartment homes is maintenance. Rob is by far the best maintenance guy I have ever had. I put in an order and it's fixed that day. Always friendly hard working and goes above and beyond whatever I ask. Definitely plan on staying after my lease is up. Was once nice. Now bad and getting worse every day. Essex (the company that owns and runs the complex) is mis-managing this place right into the ground. Trees are allowed to die and then left to rot. Tasks of property maintenance, e.g. repaving the streets, are botched so that the result is worse after than the condition was before. Garbage piles up and overflows out of the dumpsters. Residents have junk all over their patios in clear violation of the lease rules, which are not enforced. Crime is rampant. Water is routinely shut off without notification. One by one, amenities are disappearing. And the rent is going through the roof. Disgusting. Don't be fooled. Once they've got your commitment, they don't hold up their end of the bargain. read more

Houses getting broke into cars being messed with and the manager does nothing to fix the problem. They are dirty and side with people who start problems and every issue with breaking the lease. The apartment I live in is old. It has layers and layers of paint. The carpet is old. The bathroom is so small that a toothbrush holder can't fit on the sink. There is no space allocated for a dining room table. The living room and bed rooms are small. There is only one small old window unit to cool the place down so the bathroom, and bed rooms have no air conditioner. The old fashioned wall heater gets in the way with uneven heating that only heats the room that it is in and the bed rooms stayed cold. The apartment is infested with roaches and ants. The cabinets are old with handles that are stripped and fall off and installed unevenly. The washer and dryers are located so far away that I must drive my car to use them only to find out that they are out of order and taking money off of my laundry card without turning on a washer or dryer. When I complained about the washer and dryer laundry card ripping me off to Maribel the manager she told me that it wasn't her problem that I needed to call the laundry room folks myself. The Jacuzzi heater often doesn't work and is freezing cold and dirty. The heated pool heater is not turned on and dirty and cold. Was told it wasn't the managers problems because maintenance was in charge of that. Several times the health department condemned the pool. The weight room has no air conditioning so it gets very hot and the equipment doesn't operate properly. When there is a problem and you call their security service the people who answer the phone are rude and hang up. The security guard is useless. Police are here frequently. The price is ridiculous and the fact they raise the rent when you renew your lease is absurd and a reason why most move. Alpine is a nice community and this deteriorating, mismanaged apartment complex doesn't fit in. I was embarrassed to have visitors come over because the place looks so run down inside and out. Whenever I go to the office to pay my rent or speak to someone about a concern the office has been closed during regular business hours. They all take a break at the same time which doesn't make sense when they have 3 working in the office and don't bother leaving someone there to assist the tenants. Its absolutely true about them not answering calls unless you *67. They obviously don't have enough dumpsters, and don't have the dumpsters emptied frequently enough because they are all over flowing to the point the trash is laying on the ground around them with a horrible odor. No place for kids to play. IMHO this old worn out dump needs to be torn down and new decent housing needs to be built in its place. It would be nice if they could find respectful, professional people to manage the property as well. read more

The office staff were very dishonest about our deposit when we moved. Whenever we called for assistance, no one answered the office phone or was available to help on several occasions. Staff in the office were also rude, the pool and jacuzzis were never taken care of and they were even forced to close them at some point for not caring for them properly. They have a move in special and then raise rent $100 a year.they don't pay for the trash you split it between everyone in the complex wherever there's 5 people in the home or 1. It's absolute crap. My review is 4 out of 5 stars due to the fact that my fiance and I had a couple issues with appliances and lights burning out a month or so after moving in. However if anyone deserves recognition here it has to be Robert. He's very attentive and performs maintenance as requested without ever complaining. He's come to my apartment many times since I've moved in for various issues. Biggest one by far has to be with our stove. He got us a new one in only a couple days. The complex it self is set up so great, single story units only, and some have fenced back yards which are all dirt now because the management stopped watering at all during the water crisis which I get but all that dirt is in the house and all over everything. Plus once they decided to start watering this area again, NOW it is dirt, so MUDDY. Ridiculous but I can't seem to get them to understand that watering is useless now that there is nothing but dirt. Secondly, the units are old. The kitchen cabinets are OLD and so our the counter tops. Feels like you are living in the 70's. The carpet is cheap and stains so easily :( New manager is RUDE and not customer service oriented. My recommendation, find another place in Alpine. read more

Let me start by saying that I am impressed that the service so far has been great. I'm usually an attentive person and I see that maintenance is always working on one thing or the other. Grounds are kept up. I think the complaints are that some people refuse "change". But in this case the changes are positive. Office and Manager are by far helpful, attentive and very resourceful. My little family and I were going to move into these apartments. We put in a deposit to hold one for us. Unfortunately we won't be able to move in. And well our holding deposit is lost,because you don't get it back. Totally our fault for not reading the paperwork before signing. QUICK ADVISE: Do not take kids with you when signing important papers lol. It really makes me sad not being able to move. Since the ladies here made our process so easy and answered every non related question to the fullest. They're professional and oh so very kind. Robert from the maintenance department is a LIFE SAVER!! He has gone above and beyond with getting our AC unit replaced when ours went out last weekend. The new unit came in and it wouldn't turn on and he didn't stop until he was able to locate the problem and we were able to get it running!! He called right away when we put in the work order and kept us up to date the whole time and even worked with me with my work schedule in order to come by. A million thank yous Robert! I was a corporate tenant. I live in multiple corporate housing for my job and move frequently. As well, my dealings with these property management are both at work at a corporate level and personal living space as I don't really get a choice in which complex they contract with. Because of this I saw the comparison between on site management and corporate dealings. Onsite management and staff were superior to most that I see. A true concern and proactive team aware of the needs of its tenants but often have their hand tied to anything about it and usually can't even get in contact with anyone at the corporate level to handle a situation for days sometimes longer if ever addressed. However having to deal directly with corporate from a commercial standpoint was disgusting. Specifically Mike Injayan. He is completely incompetent of his position. He has zero concern for his occupants commercial or otherwise. He sidesteps and defaults blame to avoid costly repairs that should have been done 20 years ago to code vs band aid fixes that have only cost more money and time later. Including the safety of its lease holders being at risk, he is incapable of returning messages or professionally handling anything. He passes the blame and buck to every contractor, tenant or coworker for his lack of capability. He discustinly hides behind corporate shields and blames everyone else for the issues and does nothing to remedy repairs or complaints. Essex corporate perception and responsibility would be greatly improved by completely disassociating from him, and would only be the first step in a costly repair and rebuild that is decades overdue in repairing the damage done to your reputation. Both on the commercial and private sector of this location. It is no secret that Essex properties are only greedy machines with zero concern for their tenants well being and homes. Business is business. I'm aware how important cost efficiency and management is especially at the scale of commercial rental properties. However most at least try to hide the fact that they could care less what it's tenants thought of them. For being in Alpine with a huge need of multi family dwellings, and at the current price point.... your property should be vastly better and updated than its current state. Kitchens, bathrooms, fixtures, heating and cooling units, flooring and drywall are decades overdue and essentially useless while costing tenants monthly in utilities that are sub par. You've had corporate leaches doing substandard work for far too long at the expense of tenants and their families. My review should be advertised as my own and not of my company's who was lease holder. My company is still held by the corporate claws in other leases. And my company still has severe electrical mis workings and burn outs that won't be handled by Essex. The sub par corporate responsibility is far below code on electrical work done on site over 20 years ago is still in place and causing expensive dangerous band aid repairs with ZERO concern from Essex. A/C units 25-30 years old failing and causing issues with tenants. Zero communication and or responsibility for its commercial properties which is only mimicked in the private living as well. Shameful and unethical at best! read more

WARNING!!! DO NOT RENT HERE!!! Many of the one story apartments are water damaged! I moved into an apartment with my 6 year old and 8 month old grandchildren. I asked if the apartment had water damage. Tina was initially honest and said "yes", but she said "they have been cleaned". Later she stated she never said that. Long story short- my apartment had very bad mold contamination (behind the walls, sink, bathtub, closets, outdoor closet....etc). We have become very ill from mycotoxin poisoning-to the point where I had to stay with a friend-not even in my apartment. To make matters worse, all my belongings have to be thrown away-so I don't cross contaminate my new apartment. My grandkids are so ill-they have to be on a special diet in hopes the mold spores will die in their bodies. STAY AWAY FROM THIS DEATH TRAP! read more

I have been living in the Alpine Village Apts. since 11/13 and I hate it! The people are assholes, very unfriendly and rude. One neighbor had three parties in one week, I was woken up all through the night by people coming and going, yelling, banging and loud music. I can't leave anything on my porch or someone steals it, my parking space in the carport is so hard to pull in and out of because the traffic, people drive like shit and ride up on my bumper. My car bottoms out because of the location of the carport and if I'm parked in my space I can't unload anything from my car unless it's in the trunk because I can't pull in far enough to open my doors. The open spaces right in front of my place are usually taken by someone who has 4 people in one unit and three cars. I have 2 very nice vehicles and have been lucky that nobody has messed with them. Also, I have watched people dumped truck loads of trash in our dumpsters filling them over the top so nobody else can use them. This apartment is a dump, you can see that they rent to low life's because of all the holes in the doors and walls. Before I lived here I was in a 1100 SQ Foot house, it cost me twice as much to live here for some reason and it is not worth it. I can find a nice apartment for less money. I HATE THIS PLACE!! read more

A bit pricey for the location, I honestly wouldn't think to charge more than, oh, I dunno, $750-$800 for these apts. but, I guess knowing San Diego, this price is currently apropo. Ugh. The staff and groundskeepers are i ceredivvle nice and helpful, and you can generally depend on the office staff when you need anything addressed. Yeah, I like it here, as much as I CAN like being this far from the water, but they are extremely dog friendly here, and alpine is a decent place, relatively safe place to walk the mutts. So that's nice.... And everyone (for the most part) is, like, reDICULOUS friendly here in alpine and it has that small town feel but it's close enough to the city to not feel stranded in BFE. (But it's far enough away from everything that the relatives/inlaws don't just 'pop in' unexpectedly) The apts. could DEFINITELY use some upgrades. The color and General outside aesthetics leaves a lot to be desired, but at the end of the day, I do not at all mind calling this place home. At least for the time being ;) read more
