Their hours were limited in the month of September when we originally got the Elite Perk because they welcomed another bundle of joy to their 'ohana I went today on my lunch break and as usual they did not disappoint. Their gandule rice is so 'ono I want to order a whole tray next week for Thanksgiving lol. I chose their spicy pastele because I've had it before and it is just right. Puerto Rican is one nationality I actually don't have lol but I've had some 'ono Puerto Rican food growing up here in Hawaii. Their Puerto Rican food is mouthwatering and so flavorsome you will not be disappointed. I haven't tried everything on their menu but I am a huge fan of their pastele lumpia too. Pastele and lumpia combined? We were skeptical at first a while back when they were giving out samples. After trying it, we were HOOKED and you will be too. Mahalo to Cristina and her husband at Pastele House for this wonderful Yelp Elite Perk. You folks are so sweet and full of the aloha. A big mahalo also to Maria our wonderful Yelp Maui Mama. Having spent over a total of 7 months in Mau`i over the years, I would like to consider myself half…read morelocal by now and often find myself more involved with giving advice on Maui Talk than the Bay Area one. So I was hoping to meet IRL some of my Maui Yelp Ohana during this year's two weeks. When I saw the post for free tix to an OYE for Sly and Robbie and the Taxi Gang reggae concert with a special appearance by my favorite reggae artist, Maui's own Marty Dread, the night before leaving, I knew I wanted in. Upon arrival 30 minutes before the start of the show, "Maui Dread" was outside hanging with the rest of us and still remembers I am the girl who listens to Pure Aloha continuously all 5 hours on the plane ride over every year. Having been to the Maui Theater only once before for a performance of Ulalena, it was nice to see how versatile the venue is. Audience members were welcomed and even encouraged to dance the night away right in front while the performers took turns rocking the house. Meeting Mau`i Community Ambassador Bridgett and her husband and Heather and her husband Jason, and of course a performance by Marty Dread, it was the perfect way to wrap up the best anniversary to date and Mau`i 2016. Mahalo and A Hui Hou!! Tip: Parking is scarce at their own lot but they will be validate at the Outlets at Lahaina lot across the street for up to 4 hours.

What a great night out with my husband and some wonderful fellow Yelpers!…read more We arrived 20 minutes early to find Mr Marty Dread himself mingling with the crowd. He was so full of aloha and obviously pumped for the show. That sure got me excited to see what was in store! The venue was a lot more crowded than I had seen it in a long time which was great to see. The show itself was 2 1/2 hours of straight reggae music with many different vocalists taking the stage during the show. I was shocked at just how many musicians came out. I loved how they all had different styles that they brought to the stage. Marty Dread sounded awesome and was definitely a highlight for me. I also really enjoyed Sly and Robbie! Wow! What talent those guys have! There was lots of room to dance and everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves. As always parking was validated for 4 hours giving us plenty of time to walk around afterwards, check out the merchandise for sale, and get a cocktail nearby before heading home. Thank you Yelp Maui, Maui Theater, and all the amazing musicians for the fun night! We can't wait to come back and see what else the theater has to offer.

I also wasn't aware…read morethese perks existed until I saw a post after the fact, of some kind of dessert a lucky few won a few months back. After missing that, I kept watch like a hawk for future perks. BTW, our fearless leader, Maria P., has been doing an outstanding job as Yelp Maui's Community Ambassasor! We've had so much activity since she took the realm. YELP ELITE PERK: The perk is awarded to recently active Elite members as a way of showing appreciation for reviewing on the site. I think it's a great, well-deserved perk! For the record, I don't use Yelp to just to earn freebies. My Yelpatitis disease comes naturally! I love to write, take pics and give my two cents on everything with a Yelp biz page. For my inaugural YEP, I RSVP'd on the Yelp app for a chance to win a free plate lunch from Sparky's Food Company. I meant to try them months ago but never got around to it. A few days later, winner winner loco moco dinner! SPARKY'S FOOD COMPANY: Sparky's food truck is located at the corner of Hookele & Pakaula behind Home Depot in the parking lot of a used car dealership. The simple menu includes hamburger steak, loco moco, smoked meat, cheeseburger, mochiko chicken, chicken katsu, pastele stew, pastele stew nachos, and fries. I was able to select one item so I went for their loco moco which was a $13 value. It was a hearty portion with two thick and juicy homemade patties covered with brown gravy and topped with two eggs, and sides of canned corn and spaghetti tuna olive salad. Absolutely filling and delish! Service was friendly and food delivery took a bit as it was freshly made. OVERALL: I finally got my "mopsesh" on! Thank you, Yelp Maui and Sparky's Food Company!

Whale Day this year was great as usual. Non stop great local entertainment. I really enjoyed the…read morevendors and looking at all the crafts. This year they had Food Trucks as well. I even got a free massage ! We never miss Whale Day . There is a Parade to kick things off at 9am then right to the event we stay til the end at sunset .
