Tinga Taco, Carnitas Taco
Chad M.

Tinga and the Carnitas were excellent. The huevos con chorizo surprisingly didn't have alot of flavor. Black beans and rice were very plain. Corn tortillas were nothing special at all. Habanero hot sauce had a very weird runny consistency that was a little off putting. The flavor was pretty good on it. I preferred the chipotle salsa consistency but the habanero flavor. Would go back just for the carnitas and Tinga tacos. Just don't expect home made tortillas.

First time trying this restaurant and am not surprised by its high rating. The food is so delicious! Everything was hot, spiced well, super fresh, not greasy, not over-salted, and reasonably priced. I got the pozole to go and when I tried it at home- wow. Very flavorful! The to-go soup container seemed to warp with the heat, though, so the top got loose. I'll have to be more careful when transporting to-go soup (because it spilled on the tortilla chips and soaked em). Parking might be a bit tough with construction nearby, but this is definitely my new lunch spot and well worth walking several blocks for.

Alma makes super delicious tacos that are is full of flavor. I really liked the carnitas taco and the chicken taco. Both packed with yummy spices. The birria tacos were good. The meat was tender but a bit salty. Carne asada was a bit bland. The restaurant was clean and has plenty of seating. We came around 9:30 at night and it wasn't too busy.

I had a very nice lunch today with my second born at this establishment. She had the carne asada plate and I had the taco salad with fish. $42 Service was friendly and the local has street parking and open space for gathering. My salad was chock full of veggies which I love!!!!!! My daughter enjoyed her entree as well. The salad was huge so half was taken Togo. Now, I didn't give five stars is because the flavor was a little lacking. Lots of natural flavors- meaning veggies and roasted veggies but a little spice and salty goodness was missed from the chips and salsa to my salad. I definitely would go back but my hot sauce would be in my bag ;)

Good tacos! Pretty big, three made for a filling lunch. Wide array of fillings, including vegetarian options. The carnitas were good and nicely fried, and oyster mushrooms were surprisingly tasty. The restaurant is very casual, more of a quick lunch place than a dinner place, but probably some of the better tacos in downtown/uptown.

Food was really good and the service was friendly. The decor is a little sparse but it had a good amount of seating. It was a good place to chat with friends over a meal and I didn't feel rushed to leave at all.

Ceviche. Wife says was good. I was too queasy for fish.

F-ing epic. I'm too drunk to be articulate, but some bomb Mexican food that hit the spot late at night. Yes, open late! Yes, authentic AF. Yes, autocorrect is making this intelligible. Go. Eat. Be taco happy. Namaste.

Alma opened in The Rotisserie Deli's space. Minamalist decor. Outside & inside seating. Has a rotating menu for different hours/days. Offerings (artisan/upscale Mexican): tacos, plates, burritos, empanadas, quesadillas, sides, aqua fresca.... Eats: chicken tinga taco (4) -braised chicken in slightly spicy chipotle adoba sauce, queso cotija, micro cilatro. Drizzled with sour cream. -small portion packed a lot of flava, yumminess. Pescado Estilo Baja Taco (4) -small pieces of beer battered fresh tasting rock cod covered with lime aioli, pico de gallo flavas and mixed with micro cilantro & red cabbage slaw. -every bite bursting with flava. 4.5 stars thin white tortillas lightly grilled, probably house made. Neglible taste as if invisible.... Food ready in 5ish minutes, made to order Hispanic Heritage Month: 9/15-10/15.

Such a nice little spot! We went as a group (8) and accidentally took over the place. The seating area is definitely on the small side but we were able to make one large table, without blocking anything. The staff that was working this evening was so accommodating and friendly, they were the real ambiance of the place. The chips and guac were great - chips were deep fried right in front of us and the guac was definitely made on the spot. They had lots of drink options, including beer, margs, and most importantly, the legit glass bottle real sugar Coca Cola. Everyone seemed very happy with their food, which is always a nice treat. I recommend their tinga empanadas and carne asada platos. Overall this place made for a memorable and delicious group dinner & I'd recommend stopping in if you're ever nearby.

The wife and I came here for a late night dinner (around midnight) and us being new to the area we aren't familiar with any decent places yet. But this place did not disappoint! Everything was delicious and flavorful. The food came out super quick but probably because it was just in the restaurant at the time, regardless I wouldn't mind waiting a bit longer. We ordered the quesabirria, tinga taco and ceviche tostadas. We will defiantly be back soon.

Vegetarian tacos, chili rellano Plato, empanada, and $10 margarita. What are you waiting for?

I have been here three times, dine in. Made to order, homemade delicious food. Can't beat a $10 margarita. Chile rellano Plato yummmy. Tacos were delicious.

Tallboy's martini menu is well-executed. While I didn't personally try one of the slushies, a friend ordered the espresso martini version and gave it a solid thumbs-up. Unfortunately, the experience falls apart when it comes to food and service. Waiting 30+ minutes for two hot dogs (after paying) is hard to justify. When I checked in with a server, she was curt and dismissive. She was quick to explain there was only one person in the kitchen, with no effort to offer a solution, timeline, or even basic courtesy. I understand staffing issues happen. However, customer service is a close second to concept. How an issue is communicated and addressed is what separates good service from bad. What's more frustrating is that these aren't customer problems to absorb. If the kitchen is understaffed, if tables aren't being cleared in a timely manner at a seat-yourself spot, those are management problems. Guests should not have to choose to leave without the food we paid for. There's a lot of competition out there, and concepts alone aren't enough to bring people back. I genuinely wanted that hot dog. That's probably the most disappointing part of the whole experience. Great drinks, solid ambiance, but the service needs serious attention.

There are also extensive cocktails on the menu running at $16-$20 each, which is expected for the creativity and expert craftsmanship of each cocktail. They have a large number of cocktails that are special and seasonal, and then their classics on the bottom. I don't think you can go wrong with anything that you try and I love that they have Asian fusion options for the cocktails and savory and sweet. Technically, we got to try it out the week after, but they extended their menu for the week after. We came that Sunday evening. Parking can be a bit of a hassle because it is indeed Downtown Oakland. Your whole party has to get the Restaurant Week Menu. So we all got their: Aperitif Cocktail - Tomato Beef or Purely Passion (Non Alcoholic) I got the Purely Passion. Good, nothing to write home about. Umami Tots This was really good! Very Crispy. Chili Cucumbers This one was actually really good. Szechuan Salt and Pepper Wings Good, but maybe too crispy? Wings are always good but this one didn't stand out for me. Mango Sorbet (They changed this from the Apple Sorbet that day) My favorite of the whole night. I usually don't like sorbet but this one was soft and easy to eat and has like a creamy like texture? Trying this made me want to try their other dessert item. We also ordered 2 add ons - the Hojicha Miso Tiramisu and the Korean Mapo Tofu. Hojicha Miso Tiramisu was OK. It contained too much alcohol for all of us and was bitter. Disappointing. I liked the Mapo Tofu! I liked that it was Crispy and that it came with rice. Drinks wise, my friends also got to try the Tomato Beef and White Rabbit. I don't really drink alcohol so I just sipped a bit. Tomato Beef was too alcoholic for me, couldn't really taste the tomato or the beef, but I could see what White Rabbit was going for. Overall, I'm really impressed by the food. I usually think Bar Food isn't very good, but this blew me away. Drinks are OK.

And everything came out pretty fast. Also compared to the other Peruvian spots I've tried, this is by far my favorite (flavor, portions, and ambiance). Service/ambiance: wonderful on both. It was surprisingly lively on a Monday but it added to our experience. The servers were kind and super attentive. Notes: Ceviche doesn't come with chips so you have to order that separately! They give you a good amount though and I think it's a mix or plantain and potato chips (served warm). Parking was quite easy (just parked down the street). It pairs so well with the plantain chips - I would suggest also adding taro chips if they have them available as well. - Leche de Tigre Ceviche Del Mar was definitely on the salty side. The flavor profile was definitely there but the salt was a little overpowering so we didn't finish. The fish was very fresh! - Bistec a la Pobre had great balance of flavor and texture from the beef, egg and plantains. - NA Pisco Sour had all the elements of a perfect cocktail without the alcohol and was not overly sour or sweet.
