After posting about my negative experience on social media, I received a response from customer service on a Facebook post I made. I spoke to the customer service representative on the phone and she promised to review my case. About a week later, I received a call back informing me that my account balance was adjusted to $0 after confirming the details about my situation. I am happy that my issue has been resolved but it cost me many hours on the phone and a social media campaign to finally get the attention of the right person. I am adding a star to my initial review because "Meh. I've experienced better." I am hopeful that customer service continues to improve at Ally Auto in the future. Worst place you could possibly get a loan from. I was sold a unreported poorly repaired hail salvage from a dealership in Texas. The vehicle shipped to me in Colorado and upon delivery notice numerous body defects. The dealership went out of business shortly after. Many people filed complaints with state agencies in Texas, including myself. Dealership will shut down in the middle of October. I tried to return vehicle to the dealership before they were shut down with a certified demand letter but they never responded back under the holder rule. The lender Ally Financial is responsible for the fraud committed since they were in business with the fraudulent dealership and the fraudulent dealership was one that their approved sellers Ally Financial that promised me for months they would come up with a resolution only to ultimately tell me they were going to do nothing. My vehicle being devalued almost $30,000 due to repair cost and diminished value report. Very unrealistic when it comes to vehicle extension. If payment is due on the 20th, they want you to make a partial payment which could be hundreds, then make the actual payment for your vehicle on the due date. Example: January 4th, you request an extension online. Starting that day, if approved for an extention, you have to make a partial payment which could be hundreds of dollars, then turn around and make the due date payment that same month on the 20th. If someone is struggling and needs more time, where the heck do y'all think people are supposed to get that kind of extra money from, and what's the purpose of an extension if you're gonna make people make high partial payments then comb the rest of the money the same month for the due date? Despite being cooperative, honest, and on time with payments, I was treated to a symphony of harassment -- 3 to 4 phone calls a day until May 23rd. Very nasty Male customer service representative. Called to schedule my ONE late car payment. He was having a bad connection, and could not hear me. He kept threatening he would end the call, so I told him to go ahead because he could not hear me, and I was on borrowed time at work. He immediately put it on my credit report. They claim I missed a payment last year and instead of applying any of the initial payments toward that they continued to charge me late fees and when asked certain questions they give run around. In most loans you can pay down the principal and reduce the interest that you are paying. There is no advantage to paying off a car loan with Ally as they will charge you the entire interest as if it were a 7 year loan or whichever. Does not seem right. Ally Financial follows their Mission Statement ONLY when they acquire new clients. When I needed a car loan they are the ones who approved me, and since my credit is not so great and I had no money down I was VERY grateful, which is why my rating is 2 stars and not 1 star. However today and a little over 3 yrs later I am not grateful at all. I make all my payments, and its killing me - My payments are so high that often times I have nothing left to buy food for myself. This is NOT an exaggeration since the finance charge is almost the same amount as the actual car payment. I have begged and pleaded for them to extend the terms of my loan so we could lower my payments by $150.00, which would actually BENEFIT them as they would receive more money from me, but was told by Lucas, a Sr. Customer Service Officer , "It is not our decision; it is system generated". When I asked who we could speak to as I assume their is someone in Corporate who can assist, he said no. I then asked what other option I had and was told that if I wanted to lower my payments and was told I would have to pay 4 payments up front to be "considered" to lower them. Huh? Am I taking crazy pills? If I had the funds to make the payments easily I wouldn't be calling in the first place. In my opinion, Ally Financial runs like Legal Loan Sharking. I financed my granddaughter a car through here and it has been a NIGHTMARE ever since.My granddaughter was suppose to make the payments and of course grandmother got stuck with them. Turned out she didnt tell me and I was two months late with perfect credit. Ally then told me I had to do money orders for 6 months and then I could begin writing checks again. My account was deferred by my auto policy, Ally financial, for being laid off from my job in March due to the Pandemic. When I started working again and paying my acct, and saw that there were finance charges being accumulated. On 09/10/2020 I had contacted my auto company, Ally financial, to discuss these finance charges being accumulated and the representative I spoke with told me to keep paying my acct on time and once I make my last payment the finance charges should come off.  On 11/20/2020 I spoke with a supervisor named Adrian,  Ref# 48210613, and was told by the representative someone had given me misguided information. That he sent my case to the department of higher management for the consumer service team and to allow 1-2 business days and I have yet to hear from someone unless you call.  On 11/28/2020 I spoke with Gene that said there was no status/solution in regards to my case, and sent a follow up message. Still have yet to hear from someone. On 11/30/2020 I have been on the phone for 48 mins and 38 secs. Customer service transferred me to Randy that said the only person that can help me with the finance charges is the dept of customer service. I spoke to Lisa in that department, did not know I was being transferred from another department and apologized. Then proceeded to tell me that there was nothing she could do about the finance charges and I would need to be transferred back to the customer service department who can help. To please hold on the phone until she can get someone and is unable to get someone. I told her I was highly upset for being transferred around cause the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing! In the end, I told Lisa that this whole process has been very disappointed. Because of the Pandemic I am not making the money like I was making so as many other working Americans. When I was laid off Ally was nice for deferring my account. Customer service over the phone is unbearable and awful. Every associate I have spoken with has an over powering accent and they often sound like they are in a call center in a forign country. A simple call has taken 50 minutes and counting. By the time I have been waiting for a customer service rep, I was constantly put on hold for an associate to update my account, I could barely understand what she was saying, it was the longest call ever. I have had 2 loans with Ally Financial. This last experience has been horrible. I traded in 2 vehicles and was in contact with Ally and Mechanics bank about my trades. Mechanics bank was very helpful. Ally bank reported my payment 30 days late because of the payoff check taking to long from the dealership I made the trade with.
