It is located at the nearest green distillery in Shelbyville Tennessee. Upon entry we noticed how spacious and beautiful the decor was. Honestly, I'm hungry at this point, so let's get down to business. There was specials happening since it was memorial weekend a menu was titled honor day. The employees at the register were kind, efficient, and helpful answering any questions. Once the food was paid for a server would call your name, and bring it to your table. High turnover rate so food was fresh and fast. For appetizers, brisket nachos was ordered. I highly recommend this!!! Brisket was incredibly tender and flavorful. I could eat a pound of this! I had A plate of pulled chicken, toast, Cole slaw, and potato salad for sides. My in laws had the ribs and pulled pork plates. Cole slaw was creamy, crunchy and slightly sweet. At this point just make a sandwich with all the meats, and throw the potato salad, and coleslaw on top to devour. You will be doing a food dance!!! Oh and the private seating with a movable door was such a nice touch. There was live entertainment as well!!! Just a great experience we will be back!!!! Hopefully in a few months:)

Chicken was NOT. Portions were huge. Not sure if I caught them on a bad day or not but not certain this place will be around long.

10/10--absolutely worth the stop!…read more If you're heading to Lynchburg for the Jack Daniel's Distillery (or any of the nearby whiskey distilleries), do yourself a favor and eat at Barrel House BBQ afterward. First things first: if you're a die-hard brisket lover, just know they don't serve brisket. But honestly? Their ribs more than make up for it. Coming from Florida, where truly great, non-franchise barbecue can be hard to find, we're always excited to try local BBQ when we travel. Barrel House absolutely exceeded our expectations. We ordered the three-meat platter with sides (and couldn't resist adding a couple of extras), and every single bite was fantastic. The meats were tender and juicy, nothing was dry, and the barbecue sauce was incredible. What really made the experience stand out was the atmosphere. It's a small, tucked-away hole-in-the-wall that feels welcoming the moment you walk in. You can grab a marker and sign the walls, which was a fun touch, and they also encourage guests to leave signed dollar bills that are donated to a charitable cause each year. It's those little details that make places memorable. The owner (or manager--I never did ask which) was outstanding. Even during a busy lunch rush, he was everywhere at once--helping customers, running food, supporting his staff, and making sure everyone was taken care of. You could tell he genuinely cared about both his employees and his guests. Sometimes the best restaurants are the ones hiding down a side street, and this place proves it. We'll absolutely be back the next time we're in Lynchburg. Highly recommend!

They had 3 different levels of BBQ sauce and I liked them all except hot was to much for this girl. Husband had the ribs, he's not use to eating ribs with a dry rub but was happy with the flavor. I arrived for a fairly late meal (~1:45) so it wasn't super crowded. The parking lot is easy to access. There were a few people eating inside and several carryout orders that occurred during my visit. The inside is adorably decorated in your usual southern bbq joint style -- fun pig memorabilia and whatnot. They have a pretty large selection of bbq and an even larger selection of desserts. In retrospect, I definitely regret not getting a slice of cake or pie to go! I am usually a pulled pork girl, but it is pretty unusual to see smoked pulled chicken -- most places only do half or quarter birds -- and I like pulled chicken a lot, so I ventured out and ordered that! I got the smaller sized plate lunch, which comes with a piece of Texas toast and two sides. I went with curly fries and corn on the cob. Overall, the food was good! The pulled chicken was nice and smoky and the perfect serving size. It was a teeny bit dry but that's typical bbq chicken territory and nothing a good dash of creamy, peppery white bbq sauce couldn't fix. Good sauce! My corn on the cob wasn't super sweet -- probably not quite in season yet -- but it was cooked nicely and very juicy. The fries gave strooooong Arby's vibes such that I think they might actually *be* Arby's fries lol, but there's nothing wrong with that. Especially when they were cooked so fresh and came out hot and crispy! The toast was a lovely buttery companion and my sweet tea was on point. The service here though...THAT gets a 5/5, or really a 10/5 if such a thing were possible. I sometimes feel like southern hospitality is a myth or at least an oversimplification of southern social norms, but at this place it's real and sincere. The woman who took my order -- the owner, I later learned, having purchased the restaurant after years as an employee -- treated me and everyone else who walked in the doors with such warmth, kindness, interest, and attentiveness that it made my entire day. Truly everyone was made to feel so welcome. She catered to some older ladies who came in for a birthday, checked in on me in a nonjudgmental but caring way since I was by myself, and greeted regulars with a smile and by their name. She made the place feel like joy! Definitely give this place a go and enjoy the tasty food and wonderful folks. I'd happily return.

No website. No branding. Just vibes, smoke, and cool accents. And some ads for discounted tickets to a community wrestling match taking place tonight. So naturally, we ordered: Brisket sandwich Pulled pork plate + 1/3 lb of sausage Fried pies (chocolate & lemon - because obviously) First impression: this is the kind of place where you trust the food immediately because the building looks like it could survive a tornado and a country album cover at the same time. Brisket sandwich -- super solid. Not trying too hard, just smoky, tender, and exactly what you want when you're in the middle of nowhere and questioning your life decisions (in a good way). Pulled pork plate -- this is where they flex a little. Juicy, good bark, and the kind of portion that makes you reconsider finishing it... and then you finish it anyway. Except my teenage daughter, who hadn't eaten anything all day except a Kodiak protein cup, didn't quite... 1/3 lb of sausage -- yeah, that was a solid addition. Smothered in a mix of mild, hot, and sweet bbq sauce, it was good without being too greasy. Fried pies -- listen. These are dangerous. Crispy, sweet, probably made by someone's grandma in the back. If you skip these, you've made a mistake. Overall: No frills. No nonsense. Just really good barbecue in a place that may or may not have a name. 5 stars for food +1 star for mystery branding I hope our dishwasher lasts a long time, but if not, we'll be sure to come back here!

Upon approach, the property itself is visible from the highway and was impressive, almost to the point of breathtaking. Justing seeing this was simple reminder on why doing this tour was a must for me. The welcome center was just that, welcoming! It was clean, modern and displayed history of Nearest Green's lineage, facts about the art of distilling, along with display cases filled with tools from the original distillery/farm. There was also a display case for their world-renowned Uncle Nearest Tennessee Whiskey. All the staff I encountered were kind and welcoming. The tour guide for my tour was Terrell Johnson and he was phenomenal! It was obvious from the beginning, that he thoroughly enjoys his job; he was funny, personable, and very knowledgeable. He shared that he's been at the distillery for the past 5 years and has received lots of recognition for outstanding work as a tour guide. The entire property exceeds 450 acres which is massive. That said, the tour only covered a small portion of the property. We did see one of the barrel houses which actually contained barrels of whiskey that were in the aging process. We were also able to see the onsite bottling area which was in operation at the time. Because it was staffed and operational, pictures and video were not allowed. Towards the end of the tour we did a tasting which was included with the tour. During this time, we also got to label our own bottle of Uncle Nearest 1856 to take home with us. Terrell encouraged us to do something unique with the label to ensure it stood out from the bottles that can be purchased at most liquor stores. After completing the tasting, we went back to the welcome enter which and the opportunity to peruse the store which contained numerous Uncle Nearest branded merchandise as well as numerous bottles of the various types of Uncle Nearest whiskey. The unique part about this is they have a few that can only be purchased there which was a nice treat. Lastly, their bar, Humble Baron, is located at the rear of the welcome center space. Unfortunately, I went on a Thursday afternoon and the bar is only open on the weekend. Needless to say, I will make a return visit just experience a pour or two in their bar. Overall, I am pleased with the tour experience and would participate again. was a good experience. As someone who has been supportive of the brand and the Nearest Green story, I hope they quickly resolve their current issues so the focus can return the Nearest Green story and his legacy can continue to live and grow.

We made reservations on their website, prepayment required to receive a confirmation. There are nine dining rooms, we were seated at a round table with a "Lazy Susan" in the center. She told stories and gave us a brief history of the restaurant and Miss Mary Bobo. There were two "servers" that are students at a nearby college. They delivered impeccable service and quick to refill drinks (ice tea, lemonade, coffee, and water) without being prompted. The casserole dishes were continuously brought out as soon as an item was almost finished. There was plenty of food, we did not run out of anything. It certainly was a nice touch to have a "Host" at our table, it really did feel like it was a family get together. Each guest gave a brief introduction on where they were visiting from. The decor in our dining room resembled a country home, complete with a mantle and China cabinet. This was a real Southern hospitality experience at its finest!
