It also has meeting and study rooms as well as programs for children and adults, and its Genealogy Center is the largest public-library family-research center in the United States! Here I attended a genealogy presentation. It cost me nothing, it started on time, and I learned a lot from the knowledgeable presenter. I feel interested in learning more about the Genealogy Center's international collection of physical and digital resources and free access to databases.

I was challenged to confirm that an ancestor was the granddaughter of a Rev. War veteran. After weeks of searching, I wasn't having any luck to find acceptable docs and my mentor in the DAR is fantastic but this stumped her too. Census rolls and marriage licenses weren't enough. I met with Jeff Garver, a genealogist at the Allen County Public Library. Before my arrival, he had already done some research and he provided much help, but we still needed definitive proof of the lineage. Then he suggested checking an 1800s "Deed Book" from Monroe County, where my ancestors primarily lived. In the book, Jeff found a deed written by the parents of my 3rd Great-grandmother where they sold property to their daughter. The deed document is witnessed and signed by the magistrate of the time and clearly identifies the parents of my ancestor (of whom both respective fathers fought in the Rev. War) as their daughter. It was like bells went off, and hopefully the final piece of the puzzle for my DAR application. I never would have thought of looking at deeds and now know why the Allen County Public Library and its Genealogy Dept. are so highly regarded. Am so appreciative to have such an excellent research source in Indiana with equally excellent professionals. I love this library except for the parking lot. It is narrow and this branch gets very busy so it's…read morehard to find parking at times. Other than that it's a newer building that's clean and well kept up. They have a drop box l outside that is perfect to just run up and dump and get out of that hairy lot. They also have rooms that you can rent for non profit meetings. It's free of charge and they are set up with tables and chairs. They have a large selection of books movies CD's and a good children's area. There are plenty of computers too. Printing things is easy but they do charge for each page printed. That's kinda pricey but hey if you're deprecate. Highly recommend.

The security guards are on the ball here and do more than the rest of them. They really work these guards hard here and don't pay them nearly enough for all that they do. They gotta deal with hobos, drunks, people sleeping, cpr, you name it they do it. Love the building high ceilings good stuff to check out books, movies, music you name it. Good place for hobos to stay warm just don't sleep they will kick you out.

One of the best things are all of the amenities available to you when you get a library card. Apps, online downloading, streaming...the list goes on and on! Each section is filled with so many great items and I, myself, could literally spend hours there! It is well organized and well kept. I love the ease of the checkout process being self-service, with many places around the library. You can get in and out quick, if you need to. Additionally, they offer many great programs, a lot of them free, for people in the community to take part in. If you haven't already, check out the ACPL!

Everything about the areas to study/sit is great: The color…read morescheme*, the variety of seat/table options, the access to outlets, the view (big windows, view of mastodon statue), the comfort of the seats, the cleanliness, the friendliness of the staff... The connector bridge area is very cool too. *I'm sure it was a bummer for the school to re-do the library and Kettler in blues just before changing the school colors, but I don't mind because they look great in the blue color schemes.

A small library for a small community, but the selection extends throughout Allen County. Although small, the library has study rooms and a good amount of tables to study at. The kids section has games and toys as well as reading materials. I have often found DVDs on the shelves that have recently been released to Redbox - so they get new material! I've also been able to put a lot of music selections on hold and pick them up, from popular to less known artists. It's a great spot to get a book and read - and if you're looking for more entertainment, you can always run to the DuPont or downtown (main) branches.

There are 2 study rooms that apparently book far in advance, even though when I called in advance and was told they were first come first serve. When I asked someone they said they were booked until 4pm (yet nobody was in them). Children from the neighboring school piled in as soon as their bell rang and caused such disturbance. I depend on public facilities like libraries to meet with my patients in the community for their intakes. It's very distracting when there are teens running around and listening to loud music . I asked a teen twice to turn his music down on his headphones. It was so loud I could hear every word. A library employee did nothing about it. Didn't address the behaviors. All the employees were terrible and could have cared less. The bathroom was gross and smelled like a cattle barn. Stay away from here! Bad on you Allen County. You have a giant fancy library downtown, but can't update your other ones?

Nice little used book store next to the Dunkin Doughnuts, inside the main library. The prices are…read morefairly reasonable (they don't pay rent or pay volunteers). I bought a used travel book for about $2 the other day. The bookstore is clean, small and well organized. I agree with a few other yelpers... stores like this make you steer away from electronic books like the Kindle. Most of the books I read, I find browsing through book stores. Or even in the library.
