Step in Porto - Kitchen and bed at Step In Porto

    Step in Porto

Four nights here, I found them on Hotels.com and checked the reviews there and elsewhere. When I…read morearrived in the early afternoon, I was pleased to find that the room was excellent. An ideal one-room studio with a kitchenette that has a cooktop, mini-fridge, cookware and tableware, a sofa, television and dining table. The double bed was comfortable. It was a little warm in the room the first day thanks to the weather. There is no air conditioning, which is something Americans might be used to. The room does have a circulating fan and a heater. Wifi worked very well and there were plenty of European-style power outlets throughout including at both sides of the bed. A couple of things to note: - The main entrance and the door to the apartment are keypad driven. You *must* check your code to make sure you have it correct. I would recommend taking a picture of the code so that you have it on your phone and can't forget. The young lady who checked me in was very pleasant and spoke good English. However, she is not there around the clock. This is much more like an "apartment" than "hotel." - The room does not have a separate lock beyond the keypad-driven deadbolt. Anyone who knows the code can enter your room and I do not know how often the code is changed. I was a little concerned about this security vulnerability. -The bathroom was nice and comfortable but had a constant smell of mildew coming from somewhere. It was clean but I could never work out where the smell originated. - Hot water takes a while to get from wherever it's stored to the shower. I'm not a fan of letting the water run for nearly ten minutes but once it did arrive, it was plenty hot and at a good pressure. - It is located a block or two from the nearest metro station. There are restaurants and such nearby. It is quite close to the main parts of Porto and I did not feel insecure walking the streets in the evening. Plenty of folks around. All that said, I would stay here again. The price was good, the room was lovely and it was comfortable. [Review 9826 overall, 1404 of 2018.]

    Re-work Porto Cowork

    Re-work Porto Cowork

Lovely coworking space that is run by a local software engineer…read more Rates are very reasonable. As of this writing, I paid €10 for a day pass. If arranged in advance, I was given a code to enter from as early as 6:30am and could stay until 10:30pm. This is by far the most expansive time range of any coworking space in Porto, and I've been to several over the last few years. This is great if you have to work with different time zones. Again, with prior arrangement, the owner was even able to give me a PIN code to access the space on my own during a Portuguese holiday. This was great because I was traveling in Porto and work for an American company that didn't observe that holiday, and my lodging didn't have a good setup for working. Having reasonably quiet calls is fine in the general space, but there are four phone booths and a back garden to do calls that require more privacy. The phone booths each have an electrical outlet and vary in size. Given this coworking space's size, that's more than enough. There is a small lounge space indoors and another set of chairs outdoors. The garden is lovely, with lots of green. There's a small kitchen with a coffee machine for free coffee. A frig to place personal items and microwave to heat food. It's not a large coworking space, which is nice. The interior space is probably the square footage of a small two-bedroom apartment in America. I count 12 workstation spots total with adjustable office chairs and spacious desks. More if you count seating in the lounge and garden. A 2-3 spots are taken with long-term coworkers. I do not see any private offices, only desks in the open spaces. There is a conference room that be rented and comfortably seats six people around a table. There's only a whiteboard, no electronic screen. A nice view of the garden with some nice natural light coming in, though. The owner of the business is a software engineer who also uses the space to cowork. He's around during business hours and is friendly, responsive, and competent. Bathrooms: There are two, both clean and well-maintained.
