We visited the shop in early January 2018. It was a charming walk among stacks and stacks of bowls, plates and jugs. It was a cold day and there was a roaring fire. The gentleman that I assumed was the owner left us be so we could make a decision. I do not believe he speaks much English, and neither myself or my boyfriend speak much Spanish. But we made it work! We left with our purchases of a cross, fruit bowl, oil jug and vase. All at reasonable prices and wrapped up in bubble wrap and paper for the long journey home (nothing broke, phew!).
The pottery pieces are beautiful, sturdy and so colorful! We wanted to buy larger pieces but with limited luggage space that would have been difficult. I do believe pieces can be shipped but we didn't have the time to inquire. I love that these are mostly traditional pieces, a craft handed down generation after generation. The shop is also a studio and we saw a gentleman carving vases in the back of shop.
We went to one other shop that was much smaller, less variety, and honestly with pieces not nearly as beautiful as this one.
Please note that in the town of Ubeda literally every shop owner takes a siesta between the hours of 2pm and 5pm. However this shop opened back up at 4pm.
This shop is easy to find as it has several large windows with pottery on display. It's on the same street as Hotel Maria de Molina. read more
