In Bellevue at a modest grey house are modest racks and bins of great produce. It's a bit smaller…read morethan the Sylvan Park house which is site of the popular Produce Place, but still stocked with basic farm fresh fruits and veggies. Of course some produce like bananas come from a distance but much is from our neck of the woods. Mike Baudinot's store is conveniently near the I-40 Old Hickory exit, so for West Nashy neighbors Bellview Produce is easy to visit. You will know the owner when you see him since Baudinot is a down-home big teddybear of a man. The mouthful of juicy goodness when I bit into one of his red ripe Jetsetter tomatoes was blissful. I love the fresh okra and also like the Tennessee maple syrup, raw honey, cane sorghum and preserves here. Sometimes the bottles of Mrs. Renfro's Salsa sell out, but when her spicy product is in stock it's a good buy for garnish or dipping. In closing I must say that blackberries in Bellevue are best at Baudinot's Bellview Produce.

So this was my first stop on a Saturday "West Side Farmers Market" comparison adventure, and I was…read morepleased to try a variety of samples from the vendors as well as purchase some produce, kale chips, and a delicious raw wrap from the ladies at Spark of Life! They had a nice set up with some live music playing and a solid amount of tents. However, the produce was quite limited when I was here with only two tents offering fresh veggies and such. Bummer! They had a donut truck on site, but couldn't see any area to get coffee. Boo! However, I did enjoy the samples and left with some items, and was pleased overall. UNTIL I went to the other Farmer's Market on Charlotte. I have to give them a higher rating. Mostly because it lacked the produce variety and no coffee! However, I do support Spark of Life, so I'll have to stop back by on another day and see what kind of variety is offered. Greg assisted me in problem solving how I was able to use my giftcard to purchase my groceries. Unfortunately, I was unable to use the giftcard because of an authorization problem (from the giftcard itself) however Greg was kind throughout assisting me and gave me top notch customer service trying to assist the best way that he could. Working in luxury hospitality in 5 star hotels in Nashville, his attitude and personality stood out to me and I will be back just because of him!

The DMV? Bulldozed. Trader Joe's Green Hills is now the governing body of civilization. I've never walked into this place and been greeted by someone who looked like they'd rather be anywhere else. Every employee smiles like they just got engaged, won the lottery, and pet a golden retriever on the way to work. It's suspicious. As a child with OCD, I had approximately 47 family members. Officially it was 14 aunts and uncles and four grandmas, but emotionally it felt like 900 relatives. There were houses where I'd rather eat the upholstery than touch the food. Sometimes it was the smell. Sometimes it was the vibe. Sometimes my brain simply declared, "We're fasting today." Then I came to the US, and discovered Trader Joe's. If one of your employees handed me drywall in a toothpick, i would sample it! This store is cleaner than my conscience after returning my shopping cart. I have genuinely considered quitting my career just to work here. Unfortunately, my therapist intervened. I asked why. She said, "Tarek... you'll be fired within a week." "Why?" "Because you're still a menace to society, and you'll spend half your shift flirting with your coworkers and the other half flirting with customers." Corporate is so dramatic. So instead, I remain a costumer romanticizing what could have been. Whenever people visit NashVegas, everyone says, "Let's go to Broadway." Wrong. We're going to Trader Joe's. You're going to experience affordable flowers, tiny shopping carts, free samples, and enough positive human interaction to make you question whether you've accidentally died. I have left this store happier than I've left actual therapy sessions. The only complaint I have, and this physically pains me to write is: PLEASE bring back the Middle Eastern kibbeh. I'm not saying I'll stand outside holding a candlelight vigil, but I'm also not saying I won't. Trader Joe's Green Hills is the only place where I walk in needing grapefruit juice and leave with seventeen items, inner peace, a houseplant, frozen Indian food, three cheeses I can't pronounce(i speak french mind you) l, and the confidence to forgive my enemies. I love every single one of you. If this store ever closes, I'll simply assume the apocalypse has started and act accordingly.
