Luckily we brought a cooler so we were able to purchase several cuts and keep them cool while we ate our dinner. The burgers were huge!! And the fries were perfectly cut and cooked. My burger and fries were large enough to feed two people. The meat was deliciously seasoned and perfectly cooked. There are plenty of tables to dine and each one had a simple, but lovely setting with fresh flowers. This was a a nice experience overall and we definitely plan to go back when we are in the area again!

This location was historically an open-air market, but was completely renovated with overhead doors that can be closed in inclement weather. They have more space, and more pleasant shopping conditions (especially during summer). Southside Produce isn't a farmers market, but they do sell local produce whenever available. When I was in today, they were showcasing local cauliflower, but also had some beautiful fresh Brussel Sprouts from a farm in California. Their fresh produce is always fresh and high quality regardless of its source. Another amazing area they have is the extensive frozen produce aisle. These include virtually every type of frozen vegetable and fruit. I also noted a selection of local meat products in the coolers, these included quite the selection of sausages! In the preserved products, Southside also has you covered. They have their own brand of pickled, jellied, and preserved foods of all sorts. They also sell other name brands. They have syrups and oils, and other similar products. This is an area that's expanded over the years, and is now quite extensive. Then there are the other products that one can find there. These include things like a significant selection of dried beans and rice, local bread products from a number of bakeries, and cypress furniture. In the right season, you can buy fruit trees to plant in your yard or garden. In all seasons, I recommend Southside as a great place to buy healthy and interesting houseplants. I am always amazed by their selection. Service is always great as well. Normally, one need only take their selections to the counter in the center to be rung up. Their registers accept all modern forms of payment including tap to pay (min $4 on credit cards though). If you need any other help, they will be glad to provide it. Everyone seems cheerful and pleasant. I've been going to Southside Produce for decades now. I felt it was overdue to write a review. It's one of those great Baton Rouge places that you need to visit on a regular basis. I stop by often when I'm in the area.

Family owned, the staff there to help you are either the owners, a family member or just really great staff that's they hire. They're always eager to help you find what you need and haul it to your car. From fresh shelled peas, beans, squash, onions, potatoes, lettuce (whew can't name all the veggies) and a variety of fruit to cheese, sausage, milk and a huge assortment of jams, jellies, pickles and relishes - Fresh Way is my second grocery store for essentials. All steaks were cut at angles with bones in places not expected. T-bones didn't resemble t-bones. Sirloins had bones going through them sideways. No ribeye had the eye. They were cut off and nowhere to be found. Cut and quality of steaks we received are impossible to grill. We tried and can't chew it. Not even a great white shark could. I've never got a chuck roast with wide, narrow long bones in it. Briskets were cut thin and tough as the sole of a shoe. Anything we've tried to cook has been a complete disappointment. Only way to eat any of it was to smother it for hours. Some had to be tossed out because there was no hope.

I have found that they have some of the best produce in the Rankin County Area. I worked in Retail…read moreall my life (Dillards 25+ years in Upper Management) and have retired. I always took care of my customers, doing my best to make them happy with 'customer' friendly policies. I recently bought a "basket of peaches" from Cockrell's Farmers Market and I came home with 5 bad peaches that had to be on the their "basket." I have always trusted the "basket" buying experience as the person that rings your order up does touch every item. I thought that if I ever bought some bad produce from them that they would stand behind their products. However, upon asking if they would replace the 5 bad peaches they said "No." These peaches were so damaged that they soaked the bottom of my Fridge Fruit Drawer and took a while to clean the mess up. I have learned my lesson and now pick a basket and then go thru each individual piece of fruit or vege to check to see if they are bad and if so, replace with an undamaged unit and setting the bad piece of fruit or vege to the side so that others will can determine for themselves if they want to buy it or not. I thought about taking my business to another local farmers market, but since Cockrells is only 2 miles from me, I have decided to stay based on the extra cost of gas and time taken. Overall I would give them a rating of 4 out of 5 for their products and 3 out of 5 for customer service (this ranking is based on all customer service expectations and not based off of 1 or 2 issues).
