I visited the Domaine de Longchamp which is just outside Coex, 15km from St Giles Croix de Vie. Jean Charles et Albert Grossin were great hosts and very helpful and we tasted several wines. The Chardonnay was good, golden, fresh with a hint of lemon and a lasting finish. My wife preferred this whilst I really liked the Chardonnay aged in oak, which had a more complex fuller-bodied taste. The Prestige is a very good Methode traditionelle whilst the Excellence is even better, a complex combination of produce 2001-2005 that makes a really full and satisfying flavour. Much more interesting than many champagnes. This was my favourite of the sparkilng wines whilst my wife preferred the sparkling rose (did I mention that they were great hosts?!) Their rose was quite full-bodied which I liked and as we ended up going there twice, we ended up with two lots of rose wine that had slightly differet colouring and depth, depending on which batch you got it from. However, isn't that what makes french wine interesting? They also sell red wines. The Vieux de la Vieille is a good enough wine at 5 Euros a bottle but if you buy the 5 litre cabine (box) at 12 euros, it is an absolute bargain and so we bought three. The Bordeaux Superior 2006 was a fantastic wine. I would recommned a visit to Domiane de Longchamp and their wines to anyone who happens to be in the area. It really made our holiday. read more
