Throughout the process, I felt there was a lack of preparation and organization. During the hearing, I often felt that counsel was not adequately prepared for the issues before the court. I was also surprised by the focus on reaching a civil agreement after I had retained counsel and paid a substantial fee to pursue my legal matter. Ultimately, I was later able to obtain a cease-and-desist through the municipal court process at no cost. Looking back, I believe I should have been given more candid guidance regarding the strengths and weaknesses of my case and whether a less expensive alternative approach would have been more appropriate from the beginning. I understand that attorneys cannot guarantee outcomes, and my concerns are not based solely on the result of the case. My concerns are based on my experience with the preparation, strategy, communication, and overall value of the services provided relative to the fee charged. Because of these concerns, I have pursued fee arbitration and am seeking a refund of the fee paid. I work hard for my money and believe clients deserve honest, realistic guidance when making significant financial decisions about legal representation. When it comes to lawyers, there is no one I can think of that I would respect or recommend more…read morehighly than Kevin Corriston of Breslin and Breslin. He doesn't just take your case and take your money he actually cares. I've had a few instances over the course of a decade in which I've had to employ their services. I have shown up to court with Kevin as my lawyers ever time and on more than one occasion I have had other colleagues of his and a judge explicitly tell me that he is one of the best. And I can from personal experience stand by that testament. He has not only had charges reduced, but there time instances where they have been dropped. The justice system is not as just as it would like to see from the side of the state. As with any state entity there is much left to be desired and so when one finds themselves in a position of needing assistance its important to find a firm that fights for YOU and Breslin and Breslin employs lawyers who care. Another huge selling point for me when I recommend this farm and specifically Kevin as legal defence for those who might find themselves in need it is the fact that he is not only a partner at the firm but also acts as a public defender in many different counties outside of his criminal defence work. Which speaks to his genuine compassion and integrity and doing the work that he does defending the people from injustices carried out by state actors. In the end, people are people and Kevin is a great person. I will also be reaching out to when I win the lottery or inherit a large sum of money. No matter what your case is, and/or how complex it may or may not be, they do not care about getting you the best possible outcome. Their objective is to push you to settle with as little involvement as possible so they can move on to the next case. From the very beginning, the intake process was extremely aggressive. I received constant follow-ups by phone, email, and text encouraging me to retain the firm and assuring me that they were more than capable of handling my case. Once I signed, communication immediately changed. After several weeks of silence I was assigned an attorney who prepared materials that had multiple errors including dates, times, and several spelling mistakes. When I brought this to his attention his response was "Don't worry about it, as long as we understand it, it shouldn't be an issue" Shortly afterward, he was no longer with the company and I was introduced to my new attorney. Communication remained inconsistent, and I frequently found myself having to follow up repeatedly, keep track of issues myself, and push for information about my own case. The firm also charges a substantial contingency fee in addition to case expenses. When I asked my attorney direct questions about the fees and deductions, I found his explanations unnecessarily convoluted, vague, and circular. Instead of simply walking me through the numbers in a straightforward way, I often struggled to get a clear breakdown of the accounting. By the end of my case, the combination consumed a very significant portion taking almost 50% of my gross settlement. Considering the underwhelming level of preparation, communication, and attention to detail I personally experienced, I did not feel the representation came remotely close to justifying what I ultimately paid. The experience left me feeling taken advantage of rather than represented. The communication problems continued even after the matter was "resolved". Important settlement paperwork was sent without notice or follow up, while my repeated attempts to contact the office went unanswered. I eventually had to track down the attorney myself to learn that settlement funds and paperwork were already being processed. Even basic information that I had previously provided in writing had to be corrected multiple times immediately before my funds were sent. When the firm needed documents or signatures from me in order for them to collect their fees, communication was extremely prompt and persistent. When I needed information, updates, or action from the firm, getting a response was always a struggle. Knowing what I know now, I would NEVER retain this firm again and will NOT recommend it to others.
