The Albergo Pasquale is a pleasant and welcoming family run Hotel. They also own the nearby Villa Steno, which we'll admit to being our first point initially. We found out why while sitting out on the Albergo Pasquale's most pleasant and scenic patio (with drink and snack service). This is where we had a whole series of fun and informative conversations with at least 2 Rick Steves Tour groups. Half of of them were staying here, the other half were at the Villa Steno, and Gayle and I got the last room in the House. That probably also explains why there's a nice collection of Rick Steves' tour books behind the front desk. The Albergo Pasquale is an easy walk from the Monterosso train station and is on your left as you emerge from the pedestrian tunnel. You'll also notice a separate walkway on the left that goes up to Church of the Cappuccin Friars. To the right is the sea and if you walk past the hotel, you'll find yourself at the Piazza Garibaldi and Monterrosso proper. This is one center of the Cinque Terre action, and during the day there are a lot of people doing their thing. What Gayle and I had to get used to was that there was a lot of noise outside our window at times. Gayle would have also preferred a higher floor, but we were also enamored with the view and a most comfortable and attractive room. The Room was also well noise insulated once the the window was closed for the few times we wanted to do that. The Breakfast room is in the same room as the main Lobby and it was a most pleasant place to relax and enjoy the morning selection. We also had the chance to meet the Father, Mother, Son, and pregnant Daughter-In-Law who were working so well and hard to make our stay so enjoyable. If you don't want to search high and low for the right momento of your visit here, the Albergo Pascuale sells a few really cool items including a Cinque Terre Calendar and Post Cards, a commemorative publication by Miriam Rossignoli regarding the 2011 mud slides that did great damage to Monterosso and nearby Vernazza, and another more general and gorgeous Picture Book covering this part of Italy. There's also a newsstand right next door if you're looking for a hiking map. WiFi is strong and free, although there code slip system seems a little overdone.

We came to this hotel due to the overwhelming positive response from other TripAdvisor members, wow let me say we had a fantastic experience with this hotel. The customer service does not lack any details, from the moment you check in to the time you leave they really try to accommodate and give you a positive experience. Emmanuela and the entire staff made us feel welcomed with warm greetings and quick service. We asked for late check out and they were able to accommodate and the breakfast that was included in our room rate was great! They have made to order eggs and pancakes that were delicious. I believe it is family owned and operated but it really is a great property. The window from our room looked right at Monterosso beach since it was ocean front, we sat on the balcony and had some nice snacks with beer. We heard the waves at night and fells asleep with the windows open since the cool breeze was so nice. The weekends are a time when locals come out and hangout in the square so if you are a light sleeper bring ear plugs but when you close the windows it is quiet. We had a hard time debating which hotel to pick in Cinque Terre but let me save you the time and hassle just book this place!

The hotel is located farther into Monterosso and up a bit of a climb - they can reserve a taxi for you which picks you up from the train station if you do not wish to lug your luggage up the entire way. There are only 2-3 taxis in Monterosso (costs 15 euros each way). Wait to buy your Cinque Terre pass and Via Dell'Amore ticket - they can help you purchase what you need here for up to half off! We also did the pasta, pesto, and tiramisu class here which was a lot of fun! Would definitely recommend it. It is 120 euros per person and has to be paid in cash - there are several ATMs nearby. We were here for the first day of the Lemon Festival (mid-May) so all the shops had lemon themed displays up!

The rooms are very comfortable and have all the amenities you need including a terrace with a sea-view. The owners, Matteo and Carla, as well as the entire staff, are the best I have ever experienced. They are all kind and welcoming. They anticipated our needs by giving us information about the trains and hiking among villages in Cinque Terra. My brother in law wasn't feeling well and stayed at the hotel the first day. Carla called a doctor and also checked on him throughout the day. We all took a cooking class with Carla and it was fabulous. We made tiramisu, pasta, pesto and branzino. She was so patient with our lack of skills and made it fun. We all felt we might be able to do these recipes at home. We ate the delicious meal on an upper terrace with an even more amazing view. We were in Italy for two weeks and this was my favorite hotel. THE BEST!

When we arrived, they let us check in our luggage prior to check in and after while we explored Cinque Terre. We booked the very small bedrooms, which made efficient use of the space and had a lovely outdoor patio area. If the weather had been warmer, we would have spent some time out there. However, the biggest highlight of the hotel for us was definitely the breakfast. Breakfast was included with the hotel reservation. Normally it's served on their rooftop balcony where all the lemon trees grow, but due to the weather, we dined indoors, which was just as lovely and more comfortable. Highly recommend Eraldo's crepes with their lemon jam sauce. Three of us ordered omelettes and each omelette ended up being garnished differently. It felt like a home-cooked meal. You could see the staff mixing the batter at the front. Their smoothies also used real fruit, and they had a unique lemon smoothie worth trying! I was surprised how it was more sweet than sour. Then there was the yogurt with lemon curd, the freshly-baked focaccia, croissants...I could go on and on. It was definitely THE BEST BREAKFAST we had during our trip to Italy. After we checked out, the hotel staff allowed us to leave our luggage while we continued to explore more of Cinque Terre, and when we officially checked out, they gave us a complimentary heart-shaped fridge magnet featuring Monterosso. Would stay at Albergo Marina again in a heartbeat!

Just a few…read morehundred steps from the water, Albergo Marina (aka Hotel Marina) was the polar opposite of our hotel in Rome, in an expected, excellent way. The hotel has five floors of uniquely styled rooms with varying layouts, furniture, and views. We had an L (ish) shaped room on the second floor that looked out on the "street" (more like a cobblestone path) with two separate terraces that we could walk out and sit on. Views of the water are very hard to come by in this part of town, but we were able across some rooftops and up into the mountains. Sitting on the balcony all we could hear were footsteps, animals, the wind, and a constant stream of water heading towards the ocean. No cars fit up anywhere near here, so we didn't hear a single engine from our room. The bed was comfortable and warm, and nice and big. Just FYI, the king size bed is actually two not-so-king mattresses next to one another, so movement during the night could create a bit of a gap in the middle. The shower was amazing, larger than I thought it would ever be for a place like this and the rainfall shower head and water pressure were the best. The free breakfast was nice and simple. Coffee, juice, tea, pastries/bread, as well as omelettes and pancakes made to order. They offered a mid-afternoon snack, and a room here gets you into a free pesto tasting that happens every day from 2pm-3pm just down the street. They have free WiFi, which happened to be much faster (11.12/1.89) than the WiFi at our previous hotel in Rome, and enabled us to stream 1080p Netflix at night without issue. The staff here was extremely nice, and provided us with excellent recommendations on food, drinks, and things to check out while we were in town. I would definitely recommend this place for a stay in Monterosso, especially when it gets warmer and you can leave the windows open 100% of the time.

The front desk staff at Hotel Margherita were really nice and helpful in booking a room for us. We ended up in a really nice two story Junior Suite. The rooms were clean, modern and had a large balcony that overlooked the town. We would get wonderful aromas of bakeries and restaurants located below. They also had a daily complimentary breakfast which included a variety a pastries, fruit, eggs for hard boiling, variety of juices and coffee. I really enjoyed my daily morning chocolate torte. :-) Wi-Fi was also complimentary. The hotel was recently renovated since the flooding in the area in late 2011. I love the cream colored leather couches they have in their lobby. And they have a hotel bar which was nice to have available after a long day at the beach or hiking in the area. I reminisce about sitting in their perfectly air conditioned lobby with a cool drink. Hotel Margherita is also perfectly located in the middle of the town of Monterosso. It was fun to wake up, sit in the balcony and watch the locals opening their shops, cafes opening for the morning, fishermen going to the water, and tourists being tourists. We had various great restaurants right below our hotel and it was a short stroll down the hill to the beach.

But after much research on TripAdvisor, I was able to narrow it down to Monterosso and then eventually to this gem of a hotel. The location is great! It's a bit further from the sea, but you are literally steps away from the main town walkway; so you're right next to restaurants, shops, everything. It's only a 10 minute walk into the area where the train station is too, so really convenient. The room is shaped a bit awkward, but it works, just be careful, as I slipped and bruised my whole backside in the shower due to the awkward shape and mismatched flooring!! Ouch! We weren't able to secure a room with a sea-view unfortunately, (tip: book early!), but we did have a view of the town and it was nice to have a private balcony to relax on. The room was very clean and the best comfortable. The customer service was wonderful. Upon entry, we were greeted with cold wine and snacks to enjoy on their rooftop, panorama-view balcony. That was sooo nice! They even took care of our luggage, moving it to our rooms while we relaxed upstairs in the sun. The hotel staff also gave us maps an had many recommendations on how to organize our time. Overall it was a really good stay. The cost is a bit more than what I would expect for the room, but I think it's just pricey in Cinque Terre, that's all.
