Im not much of a hunter but I love going for the gorgeous scenery and fishing! Especially for crab shrimp and halibut! The BEST! Its seriously so Beautiful Here! When it came to fishing the crew always had my fishing pole ready with either my halibut/salmon set up. Yes its "self guided" fishing so they provided a very easy map to follow and pointed me to what they called a "honey hole". Even though its self guided they were still helpful in areas on where to fish. I definitely didnt catch the biggest halibut but I was proud of it! Im 100lbs and fighting with the 25lb halibut was tough hahaha! I also caught loads of crabs and shrimp in my pots! EVERYDAY! HECK YES! I will definitely be coming back again to Green Rocks! The crew is always so helpful and very knowledgeable. The owners are also very helpful and attentive to anything, weather its a question about fishing or just to tell stories, and wanting more wine...for myself! Hahaha! If there was ever an issue, everyone at Green Rocks was always there to help and resolve it. I couldnt figure out how to operate the heater in my cabin and one of the crew members were on it right away got it fixed! I was warm and toasty again! Great service all around! If youre an avid fisherman/woman, love the outdoors, or just want a peaceful getaway...(with delicious food) I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND a visit to Green Rocks Lodge! Nature is all around, I absolutely loved it!

Alaska Sea Adventures - Kayaker & Wolf

Alaska Sea Adventures

Considering an intimate small ship Southeast Alaska wilderness experience? If so, Alaska Sea…read moreAdventures, yachtalaska.com comes highly recommended. Veterans of 13 voyages with Alaska Sea Adventures (ASA), if my husband and I could live on the boat we would! Immerse yourself in the vast Southeast Alaskan wilderness with anchorages in tranquil bays, the silence of the great outdoors broken only by sweet bird calls; observe humpback whales for hours without elbowing for position through crowds of tourists at the railing; enjoy an entire day exploring a glacier-carved fjord, finally arriving at the face of a magnificent tidewater glacier to view it for hours while the glacier rumbles and thunderously calves. Alaska Sea Adventures is tailor made for those who seek the soul of Southeast Alaska. Captain Dennis Rogers, owner and captain of ASA's beautiful yacht, Northern Song and his business partner & wife, Toni are terrific. Friendly and efficient, from the moment Toni greets arriving ASA passengers with a warm Alaska-sized hello, one feels part of the extended ASA family. Captain Rogers displays a deep respect for his home state as well as the wildlife he so proudly introduces to his guests. On all of our voyages Captain Rogers has exhibited the utmost in friendly courtesy toward his guests, doing all he can to grant passenger requests to assure them of a wonderful voyage. A great many of the people we have met on board Northern Song are frequent repeat guests, people with whom we have remained in touch with and sailed with often over the years. Cornerstones of a successful, well run business, repeat happy clients speak volumes about the excellent service, friendliness and hospitality exhibited by Captain Rogers and his crew. A beautiful yacht, the Northern Song offers four cabins that house a maximum of eight guests on board the boat. Three cabins offer comfortable bunk beds while the Master Suite has one bed. A huge plus is that each cabin is en suite (has a private bathroom and shower). One can charter the Northern Song for a family or group or participate in various other specialty voyages. Examples of these include weeklong pro-photographer-led photography workshops, fascinating whale research expeditions led by humpback whale biologists, Summer Focus on Whales voyages with humpback whale naturalists/biologists, late Fall pre-migration humpback whale-focused trips, and my personal favorite, fascinating Spring herring spawn trips. My husband and I have participated in each one of these specialty voyages multiple times. Each voyage offers unforgettable experiences that keep us wanting more. I appreciate a spotlessly clean ship. Captain Rogers carefully---no, make that lovingly---tends to his beautifully maintained ship. Throughout the state it is the custom in Alaska for one to remove their shoes when entering a home, B&B and often a lodge. This is also the custom on board the Northern Song. Tracking in salt from the deck or sand, pebbles and rain forest detritus ruins carpets. If one does not bring along suggested footwear, Captain Rogers thoughtfully provides comfortable shoes (ala Croc-type footgear) for use on deck and indoor spaces plus he also has a handy supply of knee high waterproof boots for guest use on skiff and shore excursions. Alaska Sea Adventures offers a quality wildlife adventure, spending long leisurely hours observing humpback whales, orcas, eagles, bears and other SE Alaskan animals. Captain Rogers always is considerate toward photographers on board, expertly positioning the Northern Song for best light and photographic angles. The Northern Song offers excellent diverse platforms from which to nab superb wildlife images of a lifetime. Guests can easily spread out; there is always plenty of room. On most voyages shore visits are arranged for beach combing or short nature walks. During summertime Focus on Whale trips a visit is scheduled to a salmon hatchery stream in a Native village to observe bald eagles and black bears fishing for salmon returning to spawn. It's just you, the salmon, the lush rain forest and the bears. Other activities may include viewing wildlife from the Northern Song's two skiffs or kayaking the waters of a quiet cove. Nights are spent anchored in the solitude of a quiet bay, often with towering snowcapped mountains visible nearby. Your only company will be bald eagles, Steller sea lions, harbor seals and sea otters. One is so close to the rainforest that one can smell the invigorating scent of spruce on shore mingling with the fresh clean salty tang of the sea. Meals on board the Northern Song are excellent with heavy emphasis on Alaskan fish and shellfish. It's a treat to dine on expertly grilled flavorful wild salmon, freshly harvested spot prawns and luscious buttery black cod. If you are searching for a memorable Southeast Alaska voyage, look no further than Alaska Sea Adventures for the experience of a lifetime.

Everything was tailored to us, he picked us up at the house we rented soon after arriving from airport for half day tour to Le Conte glacier. We have an 11 and 16 year old and spend as much time as we wanted to watch the animals around the glacier and look for all the baby seals!. We then did a full day which is supposed to be 8 hrs and he made it 11 because we wanted to keep on going. We went kayaking to a beautiful isolated spot (felt super safe with his knowledge) and then whale watching at Frederick sound. He searched for the best spots to see multiple whales, sea lions, seals and great spots for the kids to spot other sea life. He was so kind and thoughtful, he took us to get groceries before they closed the shops, took is to get breakfast and coffee in am and then let us use some of his cookware to use at the place we rented to cook a perfect salmon. He also let me borrow his personal jacket and boots because part of my luggage was lost. Just amazing customer service and wonderful experience. Will be back !!!

If you want to go, book early! We met other guys who have been many times and there's really no rhyme or reason as to when the salmon are running. don't be disappointed if they aren't, but still try for them if you can. Running salmon is the coolest thing if you can catch them. Oher than that you are catching halibut. Those fat, flat fish are always down there. It does matter who your captain and crew mates are. Also, gear matters. But you can spend thousands and if you're not patient you'll come up empty. Fortunately, I have patience in spades (mostly to catch more than the 95% male population) and we felt like we caught enough fish that we'll be eating halibut and salmon for another 6 months. So you're aware; the rules about length limits changes weekly in Alaska. The week before we were there the length was different, shorter. But when we were there if you caught below a 37" halibut it was called a gaff fish and you had to pay $300 for it. The fisheries and trawlers are to blame for the shortage in fish. The resorts and charters are trying to survive. How I can support is lending my business to this amazing family run resort year after year. We came home with enough fish for months and it was our first time so the rules didn't affect us much. The food here was also very good. Some nights we could have used a bit more at our large table of all boys but I feel like if we had asked they would have accommodated. The constant supply of breakfast, lunch and snacks is more than enough to get you thru the day. The deck hands and support crew is friendly and fun. Deer and eagles are everywhere. The town is close by and looked to have everything one would need (liquor store, groceries, MJ, medical clinic) but we had everything we needed for our 5 day trip out at the resort. Cannot wait to come back next year!
