This is a small town festival but it's really fun. Smoked salmon tasting contest, films, marathon/half marathon, lectures - there's plenty to do but it's all a little loosey-goosey. Best to check the website (www.alaskabearfest.org), or schedules printed in the paper and posted around town. There's plenty to do in Wrangell if you decide to make the trip up - and we highly recommend you do. This is a town that hasn't sold out to the cruise companies and the tourism machine. Bearfest is a reason for them to show off the real Alaska and what is arguably the friendliest town we've ever visited in America. read more
