I called SimplyElectricals on 0844 482 0103 for a refund, the man offered without question. I ask what happened he didn't know. He said something might have gone wrong in the warehouse or the item damaged. Ordering now from Amazon instead. NOT RECOMMENDED.

The hi-fi is about 15 years old and so we weren't sure how easy it would be to repair -- but the workman who did the job was able to mend it without any difficulty and it has remained in perfect working order since. The repair cost slightly more than I would have hoped, but at the end of the day I was glad he was able to do it at all really! There's off-street parking conveniently nearby -- all in all, a very useful shop to know about.
